Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Ok Ladies what should I read next for the Spring challenge? My choices are (I'm trying to stick to 25 points for the moment) Real Murders and The Gospel According to Oprah? Those are my books that start with G&R or read Graceling and Watership Down for YA? or Read Coffessions or a shopaholic and Murder on the Orient Express?
Help me decide please

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments Good grief you ladies sure know how to chatter!
I had to skip a few pages as I don't think my painkillers would last long enough for me to read them all!

Sorry about the migraine. I'm a fellow sufferer so understand that their is nothing lke the feeling your head is about to explode to ruin your weekend :0(

But you are lucky to have a hubby who makes Ice Cream.
My Dad's a chef and makes delicious praline Ice Cream.
Hubby on the other hand makes a good cup of coffee and has just about mastered the art of warming up a frozen pizza!

I love them - my favourite type of movie.
When I first saw Crouching Tiger I was entranced. Then I got Hero and Flying Daggers on DVD and they broke my heart with both the beautiful story and the beautiful photography.
I have just recorded Curse of the Yellow Flower. I am so looking forward to watching it.

Allison (inconceivably) I am very sleepy. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell caused me to stay up way too late.

message 5007: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Allison, I thought you had already read N&S? Is this a re-read?

message 5008: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hahaha, I totally haven't read it before...I just recommend it all the time. :)

I watched the BBC miniseries based on the book, and fell in love with the story....so NOW I'm reading the book.

message 5009: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Oh ok that makes sense. I remember you recommending it so I thought you had read the book. lol. That's funny.

How did you like Confessions of a Shopaholic?

I'm back at work after a day and half off. It sucks. I don't feel like doing anything, but since it's the beginning of the month there are piles of paper everywhere.

message 5010: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) ugh! Yeah, I need to take some time off. I'm sick of being here, haha.

Confessions was a really funny movie, waaaay different from the book, but I still really liked it.

message 5011: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I thought it would be really different considering that they changed the setting. I love the series though. It's so funny. The only one I didn't like that much was the one where she finds out about her sister. The ending was too hokey.

message 5012: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, I just love how hilarious the books are, its great.

In the movie...Luke Brandon is her boss and the movie shows her getting hired at Successful Savings. Weird.

message 5013: by Kandice (last edited Mar 12, 2009 10:36PM) (new)

Kandice Good morning girls!

message 5014: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) morning, Kandice!

message 5015: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Morning! :-)

message 5016: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Did you guys read The Devil Wears Prada? They really changed that book too. I was surprised, but they made the movie much racier.

message 5017: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, they did change Devil Wears Prada a lot. MUCH racier, although I still enjoyed it.

message 5018: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I love both the book and the movie. What's her face who played Miranda did a fantastic job with the character.

message 5019: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, I really like Anne Hathaway.

message 5020: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) and Meryl Streep, for that matter.

message 5021: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) (well, that was backwards because Meryl Streep played Miranda, but you know what I mean)

message 5022: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I know that we usually like the book better than the movie, but I was disapointed in the fact that they felt they had to do that. Until they changed it, I htought it was a great book, even for YA. If it had been written the way it was filmed, it wouldn't be.

message 5023: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Confessions of a Shopaholic didn't do that...I think Becky and Luke end up at a hotel at the end of the book, don't they? They just kiss at the end of the movie.

message 5024: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I don't remember the ending for Confessions. I read it so long ago.

Has anyone read Blood and Chocolate? I saw the movie and it was decent, but when I looked at the description of the book it looks like a lot was changed.

message 5025: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) never heard of it...

message 5026: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I read the synopsis of the book, and it looked really good, but there are a few girls where I work that LOVED the book and were VERY unhappy about the movie.

message 5027: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Maybe it's better that I saw the movie first then. lol.

How about Nanny Diaries? Anyone see the movie? I read the book and semi-enjoyed it. I haven't seen the movie and I'm not in a rush to see either. I hate bratty kids.

message 5028: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I thought it looked kinda funny, but I haven't read it or seen the movie.

But, like you, I hate bratty kids...so it might annoy me so much I couldn't really enjoy it either.

message 5029: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I read the book and saw the movie. I really like Laura Linney who played the mom, but they changed the ending to be kind of...sacharin sweet. Stupid. It was completely unrealistic as far as he rest of the story went. It was good until the last 10 minutes.

message 5030: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Oh that sucks.

I can't even watch Super Nanny without wanting to throw something at the TV. I want to slap both the parents and the kids. lol.

message 5031: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) WAKE UP! haha

message 5032: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) So do you think this thread could reach 8,000? It's kinda dead here today. Where's Ms. Fiona? Did she blowout her keyboard?

message 5033: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hmm...she did say she was going to return her laptop didn't she? or get a keyboard? something.

I don't know if we can reach 8000 today...guess it depends what the afternoon brings.

Of course, I could have split this post into at least 4...oops. :)

message 5034: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Good Morning Ladies! Hope everyone is having a good day.

message 5035: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Hi Lisa!

message 5036: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Hey there Lisa! Feeling better?

message 5037: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I think she did say she was going to order another keyboard.

message 5038: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Yes, everyday gets a little better. Thanks for asking.

So ladies what should I read next, Graceling, Watership Down or Real Murders?

message 5039: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) GRACELING!

message 5040: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments LOL anyone else want to put their vote in? hehe

message 5041: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Fiona did you get your keyboard fixed?

message 5042: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I haven't read it but it looks good so Graceling.

message 5043: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments my daughter wants me to read that one next too.

message 5044: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Yep, a keyboard, not a new comp. Hello Lisa. Hope you are feeling okay:)

message 5045: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments Fiona did you buy a new book?

message 5046: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Watership Down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 5047: by Kandice (new)

Kandice *slaps Fiona*
(very,very softly)

message 5048: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I HAVE met Mr. T :) 3 times now, in fact (I think). One of the first things that happened was him making the Hales' landlord change the horrid wallpaper, and that pretty much made me decide he is my favorite.

The way Margaret treats him seems way worse in the book though, poor guy!

message 5049: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments FIONA! aren't you the one that says no more books because you have like 200 something on your shelves to read? LOL

So, what book did you buy?

message 5050: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) | 1053 comments ROFL!!! Oh Fiona you are so funny...so do tell which book is it?
