Lindsay | 4 comments Hello! I don't post often here (bit more of lurker) but I got a giftcard for Mother's Day and am looking for a new Vampire Series, etc to read. I've read Twilight, all the BDB except the newest one, Sookie, Night Huntress and a few other random ones. I started Vampire Diaries and didn't care for the first one but I've heard it gets better so I might give that a try. Anyway, I would love some suggestions for some other good books/series. Thanks!!

KellBell (kell_bell) | 3 comments I really like the Chicagoland Vampires. I would say it's a bit more UF than PNR. I guess you could say it's more like Sookie instead of BDB in that respect. The first one is Some Girls Bite.

Also, if you like young adult, the Vampire Academy series is really good! I'm not a huge fan of YA, but I loved these books. The first one is Vampire Academy.

I also just started the Argeneau series. They're a really cute read. I've only read the first one, but I definitely plan on reading more. The first one is A Quick Bite.

If you liked BDB, then you'll like the Midnight Breed series. I actually read this series before BDB and when I started reading BDB I could not get over how many similarities there were. But that only lasted a little into the first book. Because they're both great reads in their own right. The first one is Kiss of Midnight.

I also have a lot of books on my to-reads that I've heard good things about and are vamp series. But since I haven't read them, I'm hesitant to recommend them.

As a side note, I recently started a group: My Vampire Book Obsession. It might be a good place to find recommendations. I know some of the group members have read far more vamp books than I have.

Let me know if you have any questions about any of the series I've listed!

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 248 comments For another light read similar to the Argeneau series, try Love at Stake by Kerrelyn Sparks. The first book is How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire. It's an excellent, popular series.

A new series that I just finished reading is The Mark of the Vampire. There are two books out so far, and the third will be out next February. It's a dark, hot series that really gripped me. The books are:
Eternal Hunger (Mark of the Vampire #1) by Laura Wright Eternal Kiss (Mark of the Vampire, #2) by Laura Wright
Get past the introduction in the first few chapters of Eternal Hunger and a tiny bit of purple prose and you won't be sorry.

And don't miss the "classic" series, Dark-Hunter, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. It's got a different take on vamps, and there are also shifters in the series. You can start with the prequel, Fantasy Lover, or start with the vamps in Night Pleasures.

Enjoy!

new_user | 1389 comments I would recommend these two, Lindsay:

If Angels Burn (Darkyn, #1) by Lynn Viehl Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill

They are very different. If Angels Burn is very edgy, sexy but there's some violence. There's a fantastic suspenseful/conspiracy plot overarching, and some characters are seen throughout the books so it toes the line between PNR and UF. Some Girls Bite is more chick-litish because of the witty, humorous tone and the fact that relationships (romantic and non) take predominance over plot. But it's mature too, the main character isn't shallow and there other themes, like vamp politics, etc.

Hi, Lindsay :) I wouldn't waste your time on the Vampire Diaries. If you didn't like the first one, it only gets worst from there. You should try Vampire Academy by Richelle Meade... awesome series!
Also, there is the Morganville Vampires which is another good series.
The House of Night series starts off good, but the series is too long abd the last couple of books have been severely dissapointing.
The Blue Bloods series is a good one, too.
I hope I've helped you :) Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine Marked (House of Night, #1) by P.C. Cast Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods, #1) by Melissa de la Cruz

I would agreed I really loved the Vampire Academy series. A kicked up YA series which is why I liked it since YA is not my favorite.

I don't know, everyone is different. But I wouldn't read book 2, let alone book 10 of a series. You really should read the series in order. :)

message 16: by Susan (new)

Susan Thank you Jeanine that is what I plan on doing. I dont understand why someone would send book 10 in a series for a book go round. I made sure mine was book one and just assumed everyone else would too!!

message 20: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellie123454321) | 1 comments You should try the Vampires in America series by DB Reynolds. It's pretty good. They are (in order): Raphael, Jabril, Rajmund and Sophia. I just got done reading Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison. It's not a vampire book, but it is sooo good. It has vamps in the third book which comes out in November.

message 21: by Shannon (new)

Shannon C. | 69 comments Lot of good suggestions so far! I've read most of those listed. For humorous, light vampire romance--Sands and Sparks are some of my favorites. Great beach reads. Another good funny series is the Vegas vampire series by Erin McCarthy. High Stakes by Erin McCarthy

For urban fantasy w/a little romance, I second Neill's Chicagoland Vampires. Just a warning that book four has a NASTY cliffhanger so you may want to wait to start that one until the next book is out in Nov. Karen Chance's Cassandra Palmer and Dorina Basarab Dhampir series are also very good UF books with vampires. The first book was weakest IMO (good not great) and the others are better. I especially loved the Dorina books. Very high action with lots of suspense/mystery and a little romance. (Don't miss the anthology in On the Prowl, which should be read between Midnight's Daughter and Death's Mistress) Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance

If you are a fan of the Sookie series, you might like the Jane True series by Nicole Peeler. They reminded me in style to the Sookie books--quirky, fun, interesting characters and a fast moving plotine. I loved the range of the types of characters, e.g. gnomes, vampires, kelpies, shapechangers, goblins, succubus, alfar and more. First book is good and others are better. Tempest Rising (Jane True, #1) by Nicole Peeler

If you like dark PNR, check out the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl. Alex & Michael's relationship starts in book one then continues in the rest of the books. Then each book also introduces a new H/h and they get an HEA per book. My favs were Sam and Lucan--a homicide cop who becomes paired with a vampire assassin. If Angels Burn (Darkyn, #1) by Lynn Viehl

For mainstream adult PNR, I liked:
A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole (One of my top fav PNR series!)
When Darkness Comes (Guardians of Eternity, #1) by Alexandra Ivy (Series)
Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian (Series)
A Taste of Crimson (Crimson City, #2) by Marjorie M. Liu (Reads well as a standalone but is part of a multi author series. I tried the first book later and didn't like it as well as Liu's.)
Kiss Me Forever/Love Me Forever by Rosemary Laurey (Series)
Fangs For The Memories (Young Brothers, #1) by Kathy Love (Series)
Be Mine Tonight (Brotherhood of Blood, #1) by Kathryn Smith (Historical series)
