Was going to change the page count on this book. About 16 hours ago another librarian changed the page count to 817 pages which is the number of pages of the text of the book itself. The notes extend, though, until page 838. The correct page count is 838, right? It says in the Librarian's manual that notes and other things count. Is it possible that there is multiple editions released under this ISBN?

The last page of the notes (838) is unnumbered but is meant to be part of the notes. It contains the final footnotes for the book; the rest of the footnotes are on numbered pages.

I would go with 838. Since at least 3 people have changed it to 817, if you change it, maybe you should also add a library note stating that the notes count.

Can I also link this thread to it? I guess it would still require people reading the librarian notes, but if they did it might help people to see the issue is settled and to leave it alone.

I'm not really an authority. I generally just go with what WorldCat has, unless I have the actual book or someone explains why WorldCat is wrong, like you did with the last page.

I have the actual book. I've never changed a page count unless I have the actual book in my hands. I wonder if they could make a box that you could check off when you make changes that would ask if you have the book in your possession or not. Also, if they could make a box to verify information- like if you're not changing the page count or location, but you have the actual book and you're marking it as correct information.
