message 254: by [deleted user] (new)

yes, it was a sad way to die in my mind

Stephanie | PaperbackswithSteph I didn't cry when she died. I was more upset because it happened so fast and I didn't even realized that she died until I read that part over again lol

message 256: by [deleted user] (new)

it did happen fast

message 257: by Olivia (new) - rated it 5 stars

Olivia I totally cried when she died, but more for Rue. I was just really, really angry about Finnick and Cinna. Like, they just died in the middle of a paragraph-

There once was an apple who lived on a farm. He had many friends, one of which was a cow. Finnick died. The cow said, "MOO!" and the chickens were happy and laughed along with the apple.

OK, maybe not my best work. But you get the idea.

haha love the cow story and i agree completely i mean couldnt she add a little emotion into his death? :)

message 259: by Lele (new) - rated it 1 star

Lele nahh i thought she got what she deserved. she didn't do anything during the whole book and let her sister go and fight for her! i cried when Rue died though but Prim...nothing.

message 260: by Leila (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leila I cried when Prim died, and it wasn't the only time the books made me cry.

Mia 🌸 I was so shocked I didn't cry but it was really sad and depressing cuz she went into a mental state and left all her family behind just for Peeta.

message 262: by Jeanna (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jeanna This is a great question... Did you cry when Prim died??? Well, I think I would have! I think I could have! I think I would have, could and even wanted to!!!! But the way Prim died as if it was tossed in like a crouton on a wilted salad to try hide the fact and maybe bring something back to it - like warmth or crunch.... I don't know!
So to answer your question... NO I didn't cry when Prim died. They way she died was sad yes, but could have been done some other way. At that point I was mourning the loss Katniss, the girl we had grown to love in books 1 and 2, not the limp puppet we were left with in 3. So much more could have been done for Prim's death as other's had mentioned - given it depth like Rue's.

message 263: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I didn't read the last book because I became disenchanted with the series when it became more Peeta/Katniss oriented. However I heard from a friend that Prim died in a freak accident. I have to be honest, I didn't mourn her one iota. She didn't contribute to the plot in any substantial way. I also resented the fact that Katniss had to protect her from everything. You would have thought living such a life in her district would have hardened her and helped hone her own survival skills, especially after the experience of witnessing her sister's fight to the death. Instead, she always relied on her older sister. That irked me to no end.

message 264: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez Kelly. In the last book, Prim does find something she is good at and becomes independent. Which she died doing. And Mockingjay is very Gale/Katniss oriented. I don't know if I recommend it. It was almost so realistic, it was bad. IDK. My feelings about the book are very contradictory... idk

message 265: by Fleur (new) - rated it 1 star

Fleur Yeah! I also cried when Prim died. That's why I also hated and threw the book literally! I hated Mockingjay and I hated what happened to Katniss. This whiny pathetic character is not Katniss anymore like the one in HG 1. A total crash and fall of such a great book trilogy!

Graciela Marez JoEllen wrote: "Kelly wrote: "I didn't read the last book because I became disenchanted with the series when it became more Peeta/Katniss oriented. However I heard from a friend that Prim died in a freak accident...."

Yeah... Its like saying Peeta wasn't a main character.

Kelly JoEllen wrote: "Kelly wrote: "I didn't read the last book because I became disenchanted with the series when it became more Peeta/Katniss oriented. However I heard from a friend that Prim died in a freak accident...."

The author could just have easily made Katniss join the Hunger Games by having her name drawn. Furthermore, I always thought it was selfish that she allowed her sister to take her place. It was noble of Katniss to volunteer, but ultimately it was Prim's responsibility to take action for herself. Before you berate me for being insensitive, I would just like to point out that I did feel bad when Rue bit the proverbial dust. I thought her fighting nature was to be commended. :)

message 268: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez Yeah.... and what happened to Rue??... Anyways, The story doesn't need to be changed cuz that's how its supposed to be. W/ out her volunteering to be in the games, there wouldn't be this awesome series. The reason she made her name drawn and not Katniss, was probably for the reader to create a bond with Prim.

David Hayden Kendra wrote: "I threw the book and got even more mad about how horrible the last book was.

I didn't cry. Didn't feel anything but confusion and disappointment. It was a cheap tactic in a bad book. As soon as Katniss went unconscious I thought: "Oooh. She's knocked out again. Now the plot can move forward again."

Love the author and all her books, except that one. I feel strongly about how disappointing Mockingjay was to me.

Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that. For me, as a reader, I just never truly bonded with that character. I felt she was weak and honestly not that memorable. I liked Rue because she made the best of what she had. She had no choice, but she turned out to be a strong survivor. Also, let's be honest, her death was much more poignant (at least to me). She fought to her last dying breath, and Prim let others dictate to her. Once again, I respect your opinion and I'm not trying to antagonize you, I promise! :D

message 271: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez Hahaha Yes! I, too, respect your opinion. I did cry when Rue died and not Prim. You totally got that. :) We are all entitled to our own opinion.

message 272: by Samantha (last edited Jul 29, 2011 02:57AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Samantha There is no way that you didn't cry when that happened.... I was about to burst. I called by dad and was like "She's dead. Omg, I can't believe it." he was freaking out becasue I thought i was tlaking about my mom. lol. but seriously, that part was soooooo sad!!!!! And it made it worse that Gale was potentially the one to make the bomb that killed her. God, that part was horrible. I think though that Finnick and Rue's deaths sucked too. It is always irritating when one dies at the capitol's expense. But when Rue died, it was a little bit more emotional, with the flowers and everything. What I thought was the most emotional thought was when Buttercup comes in and Katnis starts screaming at it.

Samantha And I would like to add that I agree with Michelle. The last one was horrible. it was intense, but I didn't like it as much as the others.

message 274: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee Yes!!!! and to tell you the truth i didnt even think about Prim dying until right when she seen her shirt sticking out like the duck tale did it finally hit me. I thought for sure Gale was going to die. As soon as the bombs went off I almost threw my book across the room. It was so heart breaking. I mean the whole reason she even went into the games was to save her little sister. Some people don't think its sad, but I definitely did. Still cant believe it

message 275: by Nika (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nika J.F. wrote: "I was angry. Too angry for tears."

Mee too! I didn't actualy was thinking of in crying I was angry ,yep!

Heather (ChannelHMC) Didn't cry, was surprised. It felt unnecessary and random and almost like an afterthought on Collins part.

I was more affected by Finnick. I teared up when he died, and absolutely bawled when Rue died.

Samantha I could see that. But with Prim I think it was easier to feel bad because she was so young and the rebels- whom she was supporting- BLEW HER UP.... I personally think that is a horrible way to go...

message 278: by Graciela (new)

Graciela Marez I completely agree with you, Michelle and Samantha.

message 279: by Ryan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ryan I was kinda in shock. I had to re-read it to make sure it was Prim. It crushed me that she died, but if she didn't then Katniss would have never killed Coin. Prim's death guaranteed the Hunger Games would not continue under President Coin.

message 280: by Izzy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Izzy It made me think in slow motion in the movie like her smiling and then Boom and It made me cry

message 281: by Taylor (last edited Aug 12, 2011 11:27AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Taylor I didn't cry when Prim died. Then my mom read the books...she didn't utter a sound when Prim died either. However, when Finnick died, she freaked out...just a little. ;)

Angelica Finnicks death made me really sad.I may have shed a tear or two. When I read that part I had to put the book down.

message 283: by Stephen (new)

Stephen okay first off why cry when her death was to fast and katniss didn't even react that fast to it. also prim is not the main character that should die, haymitch should have risked his life to safe prim that would be way better. also prim wasn't even mention much in the last book she was mention 100 pages before her death.

message 284: by Stephen (new)

Stephen prim death is not as emotional then rue's or finnicks

message 285: by Rena (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rena No, I never cry with a book.

message 286: by Cinderela (last edited Aug 14, 2011 03:33PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cinderela I agree with Juliet and Henna, it felt like a wasted death. Maybe she was going for a 'cold' unemotional theme during this part because so much was going on. But I remember when I read it, I was like wait what? I had to re-read it and even then, it got very little emotion out of me. Even anger would have been a good substitute for sadness, but I really felt like okay - that was lame.

p.s.

Finnicks death was tragic; yet it was so un-heroic that it seemed pointless to me.
HE DESERVED BETTER!

Poor Finnick.
:( STILL love the trilogy.

message 287: by David (new)

David Hayden I though Finnick's death was poorly written. Tragic, not surprising. But after you come to care about a character, I think the character's death deserves more than one or two sentences. But Katniss was pretty much in a drugged haze for most of the book, so maybe it's understandable.

Cinderela David wrote: "I though Finnick's death was poorly written. Tragic, not surprising. But after you come to care about a character, I think the character's death deserves more than one or two sentences. But Katniss..."

Agreed. I can see what she was going for. I guess I just wanted more.

Also I really missed Haymitch in this book. Did anyone else?? I don't think the new guy even needed to be in it. << Can't remember his name

message 289: by Allie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Allie I didnt cry when Prim died, i was too shocked and angry at Collins that she could kill Prim in a paragragh, while for Rue, it was about a page or so. Don't get me wrong, i cried for Rue, but it made me pretty darn mad. However, i did cry when Prims cat came back and Katniss was screaming at it

message 290: by Erin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Erin Underwood yes. yes i did.

Dedalus Diggle I cried when Prim died. It was sooo sad! :(

message 292: by Joe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joe i did cry but after when katniss was in depression.

Catherine Rye I cried like a baby when Prim died! In fact I cried the last 60 pages of Mockingjay! I wish there was at least one more in the series! I have never read such a good series, I prefer paranormal, but this one caught me and I had to know what happenned!

message 294: by Finley (new) - rated it 3 stars

Finley Mac You know what, Kezia? Stop it. People's reactions are not "wrong" unless it's making another holocaust or something else horribly wrong and/or disgusting. You have an opinion, but that does not make it THE THING to be based off of. Other people have other opinions, and that's natural. Calling them wrong doesn't to anything except make people mad (Like so). I never cry over books unless the book explodes in my hands before I finish it. OH WAIT, I'M WRONG BECAUSE YOU'RE A GOD AND YOUR COMMENT IS THE LAW NOW.

Jeniffer Yes. But like Henna said, Mockinjay was a let down.
