message 1731: by FAXBoy (new)

FAXBoy | 10 comments Here's a funny question: What the hell is "tagging"?

message 1732: by Scott (new)

Scott Muller | 30 comments Tags are catagories in Amazon that they use to find and search for books. You tag you book with genre info, likr fantasy, frantasy series, dragons, myth, etc. They show up near the bottom of the book page. They are usually beneith the author bio. They are checkboxes(if they are already there) or a dialog box in which you enter the 'tags' you think fit the book. They are important because; people cannot buy your book if they cannot find it, and the more tags you have(count of each) the higher in Amazons search list you are. Meaning, instead of item 45,035...back on page bazzailion, you are item 4 on page one. So, if someone searchs for books-fantasy-elves-dragons, you want them to see your book first.

Leila,
What do you mean? I can see tags and price on both the Amazon.com and the Amazon.co.uk pages for the #kindle of my books.

message 1742: by Ginney (new)

Ginney Etherton | 43 comments Can inappropriate tags hurt? For example, my book has been tagged, 6 times each, with weird tags: Canadian author (not), Brothers (?), Family (not), and others that I don't understand. Should I mark them as inappropriate?

message 1743: by Scott (new)

Scott Muller | 30 comments You can go where it asks if you agree with the tags and vote a tag down. If you have friends, I would ask them to do the same. Eventually, the correct tags will far out number the few you disagree with. Some of the tags are just coded by people so that they can find the books they like, like 'bubba.' I assume that someone uses that tag to find his stuff.(just an example, don't know if the tag bubba exists.)

I'm also new to the group. Didn't get this far because I was busy on the twitter! Got to page 4/9 and then couldn't follow anyone else, so I figured I'd hit Amazon. My book link is:

I am going back to the beginning of the existing list right now to do my part. Cannot express what a great idea this is and how appreciative I am! Indie writers unite!
