Looks like there is talk for a 3rd book, here is a part of an interview with King:

Stephen King: Well, I talk to Peter about it and the real problem isn’t working with Peter because I love to work with Peter and we actually have a really good idea for this book and I’m sure it’ll happen in time but right now what it would mean is backing off and rereading those first two books and getting kinda back into the groove a bit and that’s the part that’s kinda holding me back, that’s daunting. That’s a lot of story there to beat around with, to work around so…

Steve | 247 comments Wha? How can they possibly think they can do it...

{SEMI-SPOILER)

without miraculously bringing certain characters back from the dead? Have them wake up in another dimension just like certain DT characters do?

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Which characters would need to be brought back?

The Talisman and Black House are like 2 chapters in Jack's life- there would be no need for anyone to be brought back, in my opinion. Although, it has been a while since I read Black House, maybe I am overlooking someone.

Rumors:

The television network TNT recently announced it would be adapting The Talisman into a six-part mini-series, which is expected to air in 2009. Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy will be collaborating on the miniseries project.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I saw on IMDB a while back that this was in the works, but there are no details as yet. Apparently this book-to-movie/mini-series adaptation has been in the works since the mid-80's...
That's ok, I'm patient!

This is what I saw on IMDB:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384580/

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh, I almost forgot: Agrimorfee, I did go back and reread the end of Black House, and I'm glad to say that my memory was correct. You had me worried there for a bit! =)

More info on third book:

Peter Straub mentioned The Talisman in a recent interview:

Are you ever going to do a third Talisman book with Stephen King?

I believe so. Steve and I agreed years back that we would do a third one, and that would be it, because Black House virtually sets up, and all but promises a follow-up. And then we would have a three-volume fantasy novel. That's perfect. That's probably what it wanted to be from the beginning.

Also more info on a comic book that I mentioned in the comic book section but thought I would put here also:

It looks like The Talisman is the next King book to become a comic...

Del Rey, an imprint of Random House US’ Ballantine Books, has acquired the comic book and graphic novel rights to The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. A monthly comic, with “at least 24 issues”, is planned for late summer/early fall 2009.

“Illustrating The Talisman in the depth that it deserves will involve at least 24 issues of comics, probably more,” said Del Rey editor in chief, Betsy Mitchell, who acquired the project from agent Ralph Vicinanza. “It’s a tremendously visual story, filled with images that burn in memory long after the book has been closed.”

Oh... and also on IGN's website there is an update on the tv show/movie:

IGN: And I have to ask this because I'm a huge fan of the book. Any word on that long-in-development adaptation of Stephen King's The Talisman?

MARSHALL: Yes, there is! It's back to being a movie. It's kind of on the backburner since we're waiting to see how everything shakes out with the DreamWorks, Paramount, Amblin thing.

Steve | 247 comments DreamWorks & Paramount recently dissolved their business ties, so that will probably screw things up for awhile for whatever they had on the backburner.

Kandice | 4387 comments I think the longer it takes for this movie to be made, the better it will be. It's fantasy, after all, and special effects and CGI just get better and better. I think some of the older King movie adaptations that tanked did so because the technology just didn't exist to actually SHOW you the stuff this man imagines!

I read this as well:
Before The Talisman comic starts there will be an issue 0. This will be an episode that does not appear in the book itself, but serves as a prequel to the whole story.

More info to come…

Kandice | 4387 comments Thanks, as always, for the info Angie. I would probably not buy the comic otherwise, but will be super interested in a prequel.

Kandice | 4387 comments Thanks. Again...

So here is the cover... not sure yet how I feel about this comic.

message 21: by Patrick (new)

Patrick (horrorshow) | 62 comments Yeah, Jack does look like he's taking a bit of steriods to fight off all these men who are in love with him. I always thought of him as more fragile, more of a pretty boy type because of all the people who hit on him that he met on his travel.

Kandice | 4387 comments I don't know if pretty boy is the phrase I would have used, but definitely fragile, delicate, something along those lines. I would suspect his looks bring out the protectiveness in some and the "right to abuse" in others, depending on their own temperaments.

Elena | 50 comments Well, too bad I read this thread because the spoiler for Black House on message five is too easy to read at the same time you are reading "spoiler"...

I am glad I didn't quit the book after part 2, which I found boring. I loved this last part with all the action on it. I can't really visualize the Talisman, it seemed bigger the first time it was described versus what he was so easily carrying around later. Does anybody know a site where with a picture of it?

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Elena, don't let that spoiler stop you from reading BH. Have you read the Dark Tower series...?

Elena | 50 comments I will read it anyway.

I haven't read the Dark Tower series. I have had The Gunslinger for a while but haven't got to it.

MY Speedy certainly does NOT look like THAT! I've pictured him older and more bent. And skinnier.

Amen to that....just made the same mistake.....

And here I thought this thread was for discussing The Talisman, not for spoiling BH.....ahh well...other books to enjoy...

Okay, I have a couple questions. I'm listening to this on audio, so its nearly impossible to go back and find something to see if I heard it right. if anyone else just read this or has a sharp memory or paper copy of this book, please help me fugure out 2 things.
1. I think Speedy Parker told Jack that only about 1 in 1000 people had twinners in the territories. Yet it seems EVERYONE has one, even minor characters he only sees or meets once, like the students at Richards school. What gives?
2. I'm more shaky on this one, but I thought someone said if a person dies in one world, their twinner dies almost immediately. I can see why Jack is exempt, but then we find out Richards twinner also died long ago. Did I read that 'rule' wrong?
