So in my displeasure at how JR Ward continues to butcher her Black Dagger Brotherhood series I've been looking for another series that's similar in tone, but hopefully better in writing, story and relationship development. Lara Adrian's Midnight series keep coming up on a number of boards I frequent, but pretty much every review I've read says its a rip off of BDB and a relatively bad rip off at that. So have any of you ladies here read the Midnight series, and if so is it worth a try in your opinions?

Samantha | 867 comments I've read them and enjoyed them. Since its been a while, I plan to reread them and catch up on the newer books. I think people fail to realize that there are other series that are great. Ward continues to displease me. I haven't read the latest book though I got a copy.

I wasn't planning to, but I fell prey to curiosity and bought Lover Unleashed in hardback. I really wanted to read the parts featuring V & Jane and couldn't wait until November to get the paperback. As usual Ward never fails to disappoint. While I enjoyed seeing those two again, she could've done so much more to make their story better. I love the whole concept of the BDB, but I can't help but think a more skillful and creative author could have done the series far more justice.

Anyway, would you agree that the Midnight series was a rip of the BDB? I mean, this is something that really concerns me because as it is I think the BDB is grossly overrated. What do you think?

Samantha | 867 comments I really don't think that the Midnight series is a rip off of the BDB books. I've read them a long time ago. When I first started to get into paranormal books. I just felt that there aren't inconsistencies and underlying bullcrap and politics in the series that Ward tries to do with her stuff. Referring to the whole Butch/V bit that stemmed to the Qhuay stuff.
