Ed | 16 comments How much are you able to read each week? I wish I had more time to read more and run. My goal is to read an hour a day on weekdays and 3 hours on sat and sun but I find that hard.

Kyanni | 18 comments I try to read at least 1 hour before I go to sleep, or if it is a book I have difficulty getting into, at least 1 chapter. I wish I had more time on the weekends to read, but am usually busy around the house.

Joana Augusto | 25 comments I think I can go through 3-4 hours of reading during weekdays, tops. It depends how much I bring home to do, how many nights of the week I go out and how many dance classes I'm taking.

On the weekend it depends on how much work I have to catch up on. Being a grad student sometimes sucks, if you're not organized enough during the week!

Lisa | 11 comments It varies, but I read about an hour during the day. After homework and dishes are done at night I read until bed instead of watching tv. On Saturdays I read a lot because my husband always invites friends over on Saturdays and I have no interest in their WarCraft fantasy land. Saturdays are me time.

Ed | 16 comments Is it touch to balance tv time, exercise with reading?

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy Pilkington | 104 comments I probably read more than 10 hours a week. On weekdays I always read a half hour in the morning before work and again before bed, so it's always at least an hour. But I often read other times during the day as well.

On the weekend I usually read 3-4 hours each day. Right now the morning session on weekends is devoted to War and Peace. I've found that half and hour, twice a week, is more than enough to keep up with the 100 pages per month the read-a-long requires. After that, it's whatever book I'm currently working on. Usually I always finish that book, since most only take me 4-6 hours start to finish.

terpkristin | 4407 comments Depends what's going on an how much traveling I'm doing. On a given week, I work about 50 hours, all of which requires my brain. When I get home, I have to really motivate to cook and do anything other than just space out.

I don't watch a ton of TV, but I do have some shows I like. Also, I enjoy playing video games, but rarely get time to turn my consoles on. Lately, I've been playing something on a handheld (right now Pokemon White) if I'm watching a show, or reading if I'm not, especially on weeknights.

Weekends, I try to read, but that ends up depending on what else (work and otherwise) is going on. I try to get about 5 hours on weekends and at least 30 minutes of reading on weeknights.

I enjoy audiobooks, but I only get chances to listen when I'm at the gym or in the car (or on a plane). Since I'm recovering from back surgery, my gym time is limited. My commute is 10 minutes, so I actually look forward to going to my visit my parents (a little over an hour each way) as much for the drive as for the time with them. :) I'm going to London in a couple weeks, I'm really looking forward to the trans-Atlantic flight. Right now I feel like I'm struggling with the 2 books I'm reading, and having time to sit down and read more will definitely help.

Skip | 517 comments I don't have a lot of time to read, but I do read quickly. When I am not busy at work, I am usually good for one or two novels a week, plus a good deal of other reading.

Jared (jaredforshey) | 32 comments I read books about 20 minutes a night before bed; maybe more on the weekend. Takes me forever to finish books!

On the other hand I read a crapload of articles and posts online every single day.

message 10: by Anthony (new)

Anthony | 19 comments I usually have three books at a time going on but I don't have a lot of time to read so I make sure to do one chapter a day from each book.

message 11: by Alex (new)

Alex DeJesus (zeus) | 21 comments I have multiple books going but tend to concentrate on one. Depending on what is going on each night and what other media demands my attention I can bank at least 1 hour a night but at most 4. I should read more on the weekends but they tend to be packed. I hope to step up my reading and tear through more books.

Basil Godevenos (basilgodevenos) This thread has inspired me to make a list of all the TV shows I watch and see which ones I can take out back and shoot.

Cull the herd!

I always try that but end up with nothing I really want to give up. Le sigh.

Basil Godevenos (basilgodevenos) Ah but I can be brutal and heartless when the need presents itself.

The bottom line is that I need more time to read, write and exercise.

Brad Theado (readerxx) i find myself reading in 10 minute bites of time. having a Kindle and the Kindle app on my iphone makes reading between meetings, while I am grabbing lunch or for 20 minutes when I wake before my alarm goes off. It adds up, I have polished off 57 books so far this year or 20k pages of text.

message 16: by Michael (new)

Michael (zephyrkey) | 21 comments It depends on the week and how many hours I have to work. I make sure to read at least a book a week minimum, but I haven't been able to crack that lately due to work (and tv, and new videogames). Give me a solid block of time though, and I can finish off a WoT sized book in about a day and a half.

Justin (jdiddyesquire) | 12 comments Lets see... checking goodreads graphs!

I've read 100 pages a day since January 1. I try to do two books a week. Sometimes I do better, sometimes worse.

For me it's about 78 pages a day according to Goodreads for 2011 so far, but it's a bit less since I finished two books that I had already started in 2010.

Dan Weitman (southgoingzax) | 6 comments I try to read for 2 hours a night. But, with family responsibilities,etc...it never seems to work out. If I get one book a week read, I feel pretty good about it. My last book took over two week to get through.

Andrew (frontline) | 129 comments I read unbelievably slow. Not because actually read the words slowly, but my mind wonders constantly. I spend 1/3 to 1/2 of the time rereading. Same with audio books. So even though I get in 10 hours a week is really about 5. I split my time between 2 books, one during the day and one before bed. My commute has shortened from 2 hours a day to 20 minutes. That was my main audio book time as well. I try when I'm at the gym, but I need music to keep my adrenaline up. I also have about 130 hours of TV stacked up as well. I haven't watched much of it this past year either. I guess I could file entertainment deficit under first world problems.
