Reads with Scotch Ok I know there is another term for Booby trap... Does anyone know what it is? Come on smarty pants. This is going to give me pulmonarythorax if I don't figure this out, it is driving me insane!

land mine? snare? pitfall?

Amanda (randymandy) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booby_trap

The above link is not helpful.
My roomie also said "pitfall." I never thought of pitfall in the booby-trap sense of the word... More like the emotional sense.

Reads with Scotch Well yes, Montambo all three of those ARE "Booby traps" but there is a professional term that is used in place of "booby trap" I appreciate your effort though.

Oh, yes. The metaphorical pitfall.

Reads with Scotch Thanks Amanda... AUGH! It is right on the tip of my brain!

Jackie "the Librarian" Sting operation?

message 8: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Tripwire?

Reads with Scotch See were all having the same problem... this must be some sort of physiological paradox or something, because I am doing the same thing. Sting operation is to ambush, is to pitfall as pitfall is to punji sticks or deadfall, is to land mind. I am not amused. I am seriously giving myself a headache.

I don't know any business jargon.

Jackie "the Librarian" practical joke?
ambush?

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) I know what you're saying, Nick. There's like a military or spy term for it. But what the hell is it? Damn.

message 13: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Ambuscade?

Jackie "the Librarian" antipersonnel device?

message 15: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) entrapment?

Jackie "the Librarian" improvised explosive device?

message 17: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) Ok, I have to stop googling this or the freaking FBI is gonna show up on my doorstep.

EvilNick blame your roomie...

IED is what the brits call it

Reads with Scotch Improvised explosive device is nothing more then a non-manufactured explosive device... rather a device that is deployed in a manner un-attended by the manufacturer.

Reads with Scotch Entrapment is more like: to deceive somebody, especially to trick somebody into committing or admitting to a crime… deception is the key word here… so we are getting close. I appreciate all the help. My OCD is locked in high gear over this for some reason.

Dave Russell What about stalking horse or Trojan horse?

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Mantrap?

message 23: by EvilNick (new)

EvilNick So you mean in general as in hoodwink, embuscade, etc, rather than a specific. okay.

no, i got nothing

Reads with Scotch Yes, I am referring to the tactic, not the device of the tactic.

message 25: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Noun or verb?

Reads with Scotch Well, I'm no English major (which I am sure is very obvious) But I would assume noun.
One encounters a Booby trap/unknown word... then again, one also must set a booby trap/unknown word. So you know I guess both.

message 27: by Lori (new)

Lori double cross?

message 28: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Thesaurus.com lists only "pitfall" as a synonym for "booby trap."

message 29: by EvilNick (new)

EvilNick thesaurus.com is ineffectual, worthless, hopeless, futile, crap, shit, a load of bollocks, rubbish, nonsense, useless and it sucks.

I am not sure this word exists. Actually, is it a word, or a phrase?

Reads with Scotch It is a word, in common usage in military circles. Me and the "military" crowd here are killing brain cells trying to remember what it is...

message 31: by EvilNick (new)

EvilNick it's not that russian word is it... something beginning with 'm'.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

EvilNick, I agree about thesaurus.com completely. It always disappoints.
