Also my sister and one of her friends have both had the experience of Pyrex exploding after coming out of the oven. Separate times.
My sister wasn't hurt, but her friend needed tendons reattached and stuff. She's an acupuncturist and at the time was pregnant with her third child, so I think it was a whole lot of no fun.

This is extremely disturbing. I remember hearing about exploding Pyrex on the news maybe 1-2 years ago but I didn't pay much attention. I wonder if I own any exploding Pyrex. And I hope the injured people are suing.

I had an exploding Pyrex dish- luckily it exploded in my oven. I thought I was the only one!

It sounds like they were making shards, glad everyone id OK from the experience.

I think the thing both of them did was put hot pyrex on a surface with a very different temperature. In my sister's case, I think she brushed the oven door with it after the oven had been on. In her friend's case, she put it in the sink or on a cold counter or something.

Jax, I miss my gramma's. :( It was the last of her set too.

Jeez, this is disappointing. I can't remember the last time I bought pyrex, but I certainly have counted on it. Awhile back I got several old pieces at thrift stores. I like the pretty colors. I'm going to keep looking for those.
