I haven't read them in order just read them when I manage to find them in charity shops. The main thing that changes is his home life which is the hardest part about not reading them in order but it doesn't take too long to figure it out.

message 28219: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror by Christopher Moore by Christopher Moore earlier today. The plot was quite thin but there were tons of funny scenes that made me giggle and snicker (it wasn't funny enough to make me laugh out loud). However I got bored with this book pretty quickly. The humour was just so repetitive that it started to get on my nerves after a while and the jokes just stopped being funny. I didn't like the second half of the book as it just got too far-fetched and stupid. I really struggled to finish it.

Now I'm a couple of chapters into The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain.

message 28221: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Thibeault (thebookreporter) | 76 comments Just finished reading the new book by Nassim Nicholas Taleb called Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder. Taleb makes the case that complex systems (including the body, technology, businesses, the economy, politics etc.) benefit when they are allowed to unfold organically and with a measure of randomness, as opposed to being designed in a top-down, formulaic way (though it is the spirit of the age to think otherwise). It’s a very intriguing point of view. I’ve written a full executive summary of the book available here: http://newbooksinbrief.com/2012/12/17...

Cheers,
Aaron

Devastating.

Currently reading Because of Low (Sea Breeze, #2) by Abbi Glines
Despite its unheard screams for an able editor, the story and drama are pretty good.

One of those 'spur-of-the-moment' reads. Interesting.

Currently reading While It Lasts (Sea Breeze, #3) by Abbi Glines
Better than its predecessor at being a grammatical fiasco. Set the fail editing aside and you have a captivating love story.

message 28243: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished The Good Father by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain yesterday morning. The Good Father is a gripping, touching and thought-provoking read. The three main characters are Travis, Robin and Erin and each of the chapters in the novel is narrated by one of these characters. Some of the chapters do jump from the present to the past but I thought the story was still easy to follow. Some parts of the story were very unrealistic and far-fetched and the ending of the novel was a bit of a letdown as I thought it was very predictable. It really seemed like the author had rushed out an ending just to make a deadline. I gave this one 3 stars.

Now I'm about to start Monday Mornings by Sanjay Gupta by Sanjay Gupta. I heard this novel is going to be turned into a TV series similar to ER. It sounded like a TV show I'm be interested in watching so I decided to read the book.

Leonardo Noto (leonardonoto) | 5 comments The Medical Book: From Witch Doctors to Robot Surgeons, 250 Milestones in the History of Medicine, by Clifford Pickover. So far this is a really great book with excellent images on every page--it is a little on the pricey side at ~30 dollars, but other than that is excellent. I'm learning a lot about the history of medicine (and I'm a physician).

Elaine (httpgoodreadscomelaine_chaika) | 3 comments I'm taking the first vacation in novel reading since I was doing my doctorate way back in 197!. I'm in the midst of writing a nonfiction book about dogs, their evolution, cognition and inborn behaviors It's taken arduous research .

As it is, taking care of our house, financial matters & a husband with Alzhiemer's, although I've gotten the book laid out, I have problems putting it to a final draft.I hope to be finished enough to be posted on Authonomy for feedback in a month or so. So, all my reading is the most current research on domestic dogs, If I find a venue for this book, I'll be creating a Vook with audio & video excerpts in an overdue ebook updating my present paper copy of Language the Social Mirror, 4h edition; So reading for this book will be current research not novels or short stories, but that' ok because. from past experience, I know that I will then pig out on novels. I have written 6 nonfiction, scholarly books plus a lot of articles and chapters in others' editions, and I always ignore novels until I'm through, then dive into the world of fiction, my first love when my mind when its not buzzing with science

Luana (luamarina) | 3 comments I have just started The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. So far I am liking it! There are quite a few footnotes but they definitely add to the background of the story. Also there are a lot of Spanish slang words so it may not be for everyone.
