That's on my list next... is it good?

Heather L (wordtrix) Lori: Not Shaun, but I read The Lincoln Lawyer last fall and did like it. Enough, at least, that I am interested in reading the second book in that series. I keep forgetting to look for it at the UBS.

Thanks Paula, I am enjoying it. She's a first time author for me but I know I will be looking up some of her others.

message 27707: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine (saanichlori) For another Goodreads Group, I'm reading The Killings At Badger's Drift which is the first novel in the series which was adapted into the English TV series Midsomer Murders. At first I found it veddy, veddy British, but it's easing up a little and I'm starting to enjoy it more.

Robin Lamont | 20 comments The Lifebaot by Charlotte Rogan. Bookmarks Magazine rated it very highly. It's interesting - always a great concept: one overcorwded lifeboat and a whole bunch of days to try and figure out with whom your best chances of survival rests.

I liked both the book and the movie. I read it because I wanted to know how the book and movie compared and get the "real" story. Movies tend to put their own twist on the story. Differences between the movie and the book do exist such as the movie toned Scottie's lanaguage vs. in the book and Sid calls Julie and tells her what's going on and I don't recall that being in the movie. Plus, it has been a while since I have seen the movie.

Scott | 257 comments I recently finished The Black Dahlia and yesterday finished Equal Rites.

The last 1/4 of Black Dahlia was excellent and I thought Equal Rites was much better thanThe Color of Magic. I will definitely read more of both series.

Now I'm reading Casino Royale.

message 27726: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig by Donald McCaig earlier today. Basically the storyline of the novel is Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view and it was a bit of a disappointment really. Gone With the Wind is one of my favourite novels and I found all the characters in RBP, even the major ones of Rhett and Scarlett, are out of character. There is also a lot of errors that contradict the original, characters dying when they lived in GWTW and vice versa, Melanie knowing about Scarlet being in love with her husband, etc. As a standalone historical fiction novel, Rhett Butler's People is okay but as a complement to Gone With the Wind it sucks!

Now I'm about to start The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain.

message 27727: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinlf) | 15 comments I am reading Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and really enjoying it. I picked it up after reading a bunch of glowing reviews and have not been disappointed. The book has multiple different storylines, all set in different places and times, and yet it brings them all together cohesively and meaningfully. I think I am going to be sorry when this one is over. Totally enjoyable.

message 27728: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Klaassen (librarymom23) Did not finish any books this weekend. I did enjoy the time to spent with The Forever Queen this weekend. Not the type of book I read often, but I am really enjoying this one.

message 27735: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 185 comments I finished Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I've read three of her books now. First I read Are You There Vodka which I thought was "laugh out loud while reading on the subway, who cares who stares" funny. Next Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang which disappointed me. Maybe the fame and lavish lifestyle came at a price. Finally this book which was worse. Almost like she had a deadline for a new book and just packed it in. I'll stick with pre-fame Chelsea from now on. At her best, she can be pretty darn funny!
Now I'm onto a much different read...Incendiary by Chris Cleave.

Usually, I'm not a knights, queens, fantasy fan, but I'm loving Graceling! I have about 63 pages left and can't wait to finish it. Another series I must complete reading ASAP!

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I'm 3/4 of the way thru No Crying For Elena and I've hardly been able to put it down.

message 27743: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain by Diane Chamberlain just a few minutes ago. It's a brilliant read! It took me a couple of chapters to get into this novel but once I did I was hooked! Every time you think you've guessed the big secret, it moves to another level and you realise what you think you've guessed is only a tiny piece of the puzzle. I couldn't put it down!

Next I plan to read Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck by John Steinbeck.

i just finished Incendiary this morning. Wow, what a powerful read. Definitely depressing (especially since I too am a mother of a little boy) but incredibly unique in its delivery and hauntingly realistic after 9/11.
