I found it over-long, depressing, outlandish and populated with characters..."Thanks so much, Kyle. I'll have to download some of these Koontz books and get to reading!!
Maya wrote: "I have just finished One Day by David Nichols really enjoyed it, still currently reading Dark Matter By Michelle Paver and Personally, I blame my fairy godmother By Claudia Carroll"Love One Day!
Just finished reading 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by legendary biologist E.O. Wilson. The book charts the biological and cultural evolution of our species from the time we branched off from the chimps to the dawn of civilization. It was really excellent. I've published a full and comprehensive summary of the book at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com if you are interested in this topic.Cheers,
Aaron
I just finished How to Talk to a Widower, it was witty but unsatisfactory.I am about to begin Man and Wife

Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately
(loved it-- did she really quit writing this series??) last night, and Crocodile on the Sandbank
tonight while I was cooking dinner. Really enjoyed it too, and fortunately the series is pretty good sized!!
Lori wrote: "Ann from S.C. wrote: "Just finished PRIVATE GAMES by James Patterson and loves it. Now am reading THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS by Booth Tarkenton for face to face book club. Also reading CAIN bu Jose ..."Just finished it and it was great! BLINDNESS is still my favorite of his, but CAIN was a close second.
Jennifer wrote: "Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately

I haven't read the the last, say, five of them, because they started to seem like the same book over & over. But its been a while & I might pick them up. Gosh, now I'm in an Amelia mood!
Really enjoying "The Pursuit of Cool" by Robb Skidmore. Its a coming of age novel set in college in the 1980's. Its very well written and enjoyable. Check it out at The Pursuit of Cool
Jennifer wrote: "Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately (loved it-- did she really quit writing this series??) last night..."Jennifer: Sadly, the publisher cancelled the series after three books--despite reader demand--but Heather Webber has written a fourth book available in ebook format soon.
Thanks to an email from the Digital Library, I'm reading four books at once.Living Dead in Dallas,so far I like this series.
White Fang, Jack London knew how to write!
My Brilliant Career, loved the movie and am enjoying the book.
House Report, so far I like this mystery.
Just finished
. Simply amazing. So well crafted. What a tragic and uplifting story of a woman's devotion to a child and the promise she made to his mother. Most definitely a 5.
I just finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and it was creapy, but quite enjoyable and right now I almost finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood which I love too!
Heather L wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately (loved it-- did she really quit writing this series??) last night..."Jennifer: Sadly, the publisher cancelled the series..."
And publishers wonder at the plight of the industry. Good to hear she persevered. Thanks!
Suzanne C wrote: "Jennifer wrote: "Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately

I just finished I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER by Sophia Kinsille and loved it!! I also just read on my kindle RABBITS IN THE GARDEN by Jessica McHugh. Now am reading THE TWO CROSSES by Ernie Linsey on my kindle.
The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov !!!! I'm so glad you are reading this book and mention! It's was one of my favorite books (and it is) and I'm happy you bring all these memories back... Enjoy!
Finished A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow and just started Fifty Shades of Grey to see what the fuss is about.
Yuliya wrote: "I just finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and it was creapy, but quite enjoyable and right now I almost finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood which I love too!"We Have Always Lived in the Castle was excellent.
Claire wrote: "Finished Nineteen Minutes and really liked it. I am now starting The Likeness by Tana French."Love The Likeness. Did you read the first one in the series? In The Woods? (You don't need to. They do stand alone just fine.)
Yuliya wrote: "I just finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson and it was creapy, but quite enjoyable and right now I almost finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood which I love too!"Both books I've read and really enjoyed.
I just finished Laurie R King's The Game. It was the best of the Russell/Holmes series so far, and that's saying something. It was so engrossing, I read it in 5 hours and ignored a Braves game in the process. (We take our baseball very seriously around here, so you know it was a good book!)
I just finished Starting Out in the Evening, it was medicore, it started off good but got very inconsistent in the end.I am about to begin Where the River Ends
Tellulah wrote: "Claire wrote: "Finished Nineteen Minutes and really liked it. I am now starting The Likeness by Tana French."Love The Likeness. Did you read the first one in the series? In The Woods? (You don't..."
Yes, I did read In the Woods and loved that, except for the ending---was a little disappointed (you probably know why). I'm really enjoying The Likeness as well, so far.
Welcome, Jacqueline!I finally finished Beneath a Silent Moon. It took me several days to struggle through- I'm hoping this book was an anomaly and the next in the series will be back to the standards of the first one.
'Nother one down, 22 to go, not reading all that quickly at the moment because I've had a lot of distractions this week! Finished
and what a great cozy mystery series this is. About 40% through
which I thought I'd find more compelling than I do so far. About halfway through
which I'm actually liking better than I thought I would.
I just finished
, well I did not finish it. I hated the writing style, got to page 50 and gave up.I am about to begin
Claire: I too was disappointed in the ending of In the Woods, one reason being that the author essentially made a promise at the beginning of the book that was never delivered.
Heather L wrote: "Claire: I too was disappointed in the ending of In the Woods, one reason being that the author essentially made a promise at the beginning of the book that was never delivered."Aww...Heather is In the Woods still worth reading? I've never read any of Tana French's books yet.
I'm currently reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. Not sure if I quite like it. It is a bit strange and Aimee Bender's use of punctuation confuses me.
Ellie wrote: "I've finished
by Tabitha Suzuma and now I'm reading
by Janet Evanovich."Love the Janet Evanovich series. I just started no. 18 on my kindle.
Anne: I read In the Woods as it was mentioned and recommended so much at GR -- not just this group, but others as well. And it was a pretty good read -- at least, it had me up late turning the pages -- but like many others who read it, I did not like the ending.I'm on a bit of a cozy mystery jaunt now. Started and finished Night of the Loving Dead by Casey Daniels Saturday -- I love her Pepper Martin series. Started Deeply, Desperately by Heather Webber Sunday, but did not get very far as I was gone a good chunk of the day.
