Finished re-reading The Shining. I had forgotten how much it differs from the film. I think it is so much better than the film although I do like the film. I would have loved to have seen a more true representation of the book.

Finally finished all but one of the last batch of simul-books. (the one is an audio and I still have a few car trips to go before it's finished...) Chose the next group and started starting them yesterday:The Brass Verdict
(audio I'm finishing)And Then There Were None
Truly, Madly
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
The Winter Garden Mystery
The Borgia Bride
The Ghost and the Dead Deb
Murder With Peacocks
Strictly Dishonorable and Other Lost American Play
The Affair: A Reacher Novel
The Kitchen Witch
All of them fit at least one challenge I'm in at the moment, and one is my first pen-pal read!
Finished Bad Moon Rising the other day. What a great ending to the trilogy. Then I started The Sisters Brothers. I really like it so far.
I'M SO EXITED FINALLY TO START Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
BY Ransom Riggs -I was several months on waiting list from my local library
I am still reading The Prince in Italian, but started reading also Never Let Me Go. Wondering if it will be very weird.
I finished Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone last night, moved right on to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Came to the conclusion I didn't like this book at all. Dexter was a waste and Emma, please, could anyone be so (I'm being polite here) naive as to think if she waited around long enough that Dexter would clean up his act and come to his senses? There are limits to giving people a second or even third chance so for me this book was so not believable. I know it's a novel but I still didn't like it.
Well into Angela's Ashes, wonderful book and reading a lite & rather silly Elvis and the Dearly Departed.

I agree with you about One Day, Karen. The more I've thought about that book, the more I've found myself to be annoyed with it. You're right about the naivety, and Dexter seemed so not worth waiting for to me. This book just didn't pull at me emotionally at all, I felt so indifferent and just didn't care what happened to the characters. I found it really unsatisfying overall. Blah.

Shame on me, this was a spoiler and I apologize to anyone who read it, so sorry.
(view spoiler)
Reading two rather different books (one in print, and one e-book). Stories for Nighttime and Some for the Day
recently featured on NPR (which could be seen as a good thing or a bad thing :-)
and
The First Husband

Haha!
I started The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan yesterday while I was out with my parents. I like it so far--it's very easy to read, and it has been very easy to get into.
I just finished As Time Goes By, a sequel/prequel to the movie Casablanca. It was actually pretty good. Now I think I'll start Caught.
Still reading Angela's Ashes and started today Lost at the Con, free download & lite, and 44 Scotland Street which orginally ran as a serialized novel in the newspaper.
I'm still reading The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, which is awesome, and I started The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan because I've been craving some fantasy.
Just finished
. Gave it a 1. If I wasn't reading it for a book club, I would have given up. Just confirms my dislike for the author's work. A complete slog.
i have finished The ruins of us and really loved i am almost finished the Sisters brothers..really enjoyable read ..i will be startin The sealed letter by Emma Donoghue tonight. if anyone gets the chance to pick up a copy of Slammerkin by Donoghue, i promise you will not be disappointed
Mandy wrote: "i have finished The ruins of us and really loved i am almost finished the Sisters brothers..really enjoyable read ..i will be startin The sealed letter by Emma Donoghue tonight. if anyone gets the...I loved Slammerkin when I read it years ago now.
Just finished Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, halfway through The Lies of Locke Lamora, and starting The Book Thief for our local club.Books recently finished that I loved were The Ninth Circle for its wry humor and crazy characters (picture Academia meets the Marines, and other things otherworldly) and The Daemon Prism which adequately finished Carol Berg's latest trilogy.
I am hugely looking forward to C. J. Cherry's latest in the Foreigner series, just released.
Mandy wrote: "i have finished The ruins of us and really loved i am almost finished the Sisters brothers..really enjoyable read ..i will be startin The sealed letter by Emma Donoghue tonight. if anyone gets the..."Nice to hear about Slammerkin. I have it sitting on my TBR shelf patiently awaiting it's turn to be read.
....Damned by Chuck Palahniuk and it very interesting book about perspective living in hell after death. It's like antipode of "Lovely Bones", there is story from the mouth of the girl killed and living in heavens, but in Damned this is a story from the worlds of young girl also, but leaving in hell
Hey there, I haven't been here in a long while and I also haven't been reading much either. I recently picked up Not Lost Forever by Carmina Salcido.
I'm currently reading A Sword For Hire, an entertaining romp so far, and Revelation Space, which is anything but a light read. In fact, I think I read it years ago but it collapsed in my memory under its own sci-fi heaviness.
I went through a reading withdrawl, FINALLY I am back to reading(major book nerd here)I am about to begin
.
I finished 11/22/63 by Stephen King this afternoon and now I've started reading Four to Score by Janet Evanovich.
Pride and Prejudice. Ive read 200 pages (Ibooks version) and it still feels like Ive only read 2 aha. Has over 1,000 pages geez
Finished And Then There Were None
-- probably one of my favorite Christies so far, which surprised me. Finished The Brass Verdict
also - which since I unexpectedly find myself serving on a jury this week was kind of apropos. Ripping through The Affair: A Reacher Novel
, The Kitchen Witch
, and my pen-pal books for two of my groups: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
; and The Borgia Bride
-- each fascinating in its own way and all very different reads.
I finished Caught last night, or should I say, early this morning- I just couldn't put it down! I didn't see the finish coming, which is the sign of a good book to me. Now I'm reading Jane and the Man of the Cloth.
Currently reading the godfather by Mario Puzo & Habibi by Craig Thompson. Both seem really good so far :D
With no special intention reading and listening to two medical fictions - Acceptable Risk by Robin Cook and book:The Anatomist's Apprentice by Tessa Harris
I just finished THE TIGERS WIFE and liked it. Now I am reading THEN CAME YOU by Jennifer Weiner and I really like it so far.
Yuliya wrote: "With no special intention reading and listening to two medical fictions - Acceptable Risk by Robin Cook and Robin Cook[book:The Anatomist's Apprentice|12..I really enjoy Robin Cook but have a lot to catch up on.
Just finished "Bring in the Blessings" by Brenda Jenkins and starting "In the Garden of Temptation" by Cynthia Wicklund.
Paula wrote: "Yuliya wrote: "With no special intention reading and listening to two medical fictions - Acceptable Risk by Robin Cook and Robin Cook[book:The Anatomist'..."I read all his books about medical examiners Laurie Montgomery and Jack Stapleton and also some other books. For me it always interesting and fast reading.
Funny you should ask. I got a call late last night from a collection agency about a tab with the Los Angeles Public Library to the tune of $72.00. Relying on my expansive business acumen, six months ago I go on the list for 1Q84, by Haruki Murakami, an amazing writer. When I finally got it, I discovered the *&^%ing thing is over 900 pages long! I am pretty sure the retail price is less than $72.00.It's heavy. I suggest a digital copy. Don't worry about a spoiler. I only got up to page 600.1Q84
