What are you reading?

Yikes! (if you insist on life imitating art, I'd suggest you pick different art!!!)

I heartily second that motion! I'll be more careful in the future.

I can't wait to read this book. I have it pre-ordered for Tuesday. I love John Hart. I am actually reading his first book The King of Lies now and can hardly put it down. Hope this new one is just as good.

I've read all but "Down River" Glenda and enjoyed them all. I'm having a real hard time putting this book down. Hope you enjoy it.

not sure what i'll read next, i have 3 in my pile: The Orchid Affair, Swamplandia and The Book of Tomorrow. decisions, decisions!

Aw yeah... this one was sad. :(
Just finished:

My son has been trying to get me to catch up with him on the Harry Potter series so I guess that I'll start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Mafalda, I hope you enjoy this book. I really enjoyed the book and the way the author writes.

Linda, this author is one of my favorite. Everything I have ever read by him was great, including this one.

Next up is Room by Emma Donoghue. This book has gotten rave reviews for the most part so I'm looking forward to it.

I read The Lotus Eaters last summer when it was first released, and I really loved it. Out of all the books I read last year, that is one of the few that I still remember vividly.

Thanks for the information. This was my first, but won't be my last.

Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie will get you a laugh out loud moment, something we all can use.

Glenda, I've read all but "Down River" by John Hart and have it in my stacks. I'm reading "Iron House" now and really loving it, it's hard to put down!

Finished To the Lighthouse last night and started Destined for an Early Grave by Jeaniene Frost.

I had a similar reaction to Room. I pushed through and continued with it, but it often made me incredibly uncomfortable. It is a good book, I won't dispute that, but I think you really do have to be in a certain place (mentally) to actually read it and get something out of it besides depression/discomfort.
Good luck with it. Taking time to read a more uplifting book sounds like a good plan.

Glenda/Paula: I just started Iron House and totally agree both about Hart and the novel. His writing is so tight. He keeps dangling the mystery in front of me and I keep running to catch up.

My hubby just read this and loved it, and he keeps telling me to read it. How are you liking it?
Yesterday, I started reading The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. It's pretty interesting. It interweaves two stories. One is about Brigham Young's 19th wife, who breaks away from the Mormon religion. The other story is a mystery about a woman and her son who lived in a modern-day polygamist religious cult.
I have been reading Freedom by Jonathan Franzen for what seems like forever. I'm at least halfway through it but I just can't seem to finish it. Maybe it's time to give up.
One book I won't be reading is To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, since I already read it. It was an interesting book, but once was enough.

Glen...
I sat and finished it yesterday Linda, I couldn't wait to see how it ended! : )

I'm about halfway through now and I have to say I'm liking it a lot. It's fast-paced and the dilemmas of the characters are interesting. So far, I'd recommend it and since it's just over 300 pages, it's a quick read. Depending on how the rest of it goes, I just might pick up the next one in the series (once I'm done with my current to-read list, that is).

It's called Fight for Your Long Day and it's published by Atticus Books. It reminds me in a sense of Saturday - in that the entire book seems to take place in the snapshot of one day (not in the sense that I absolutely hated it) - and though it is quite well written, it's also very heady. It's a book you have to read slowly because the author crams a lot of thought into each sentence....
Anyone read it before?
