I started Never Let Me Go the other day. I love the writing, and there's a sort of palpable gloom surrounding the story, even in the first few pages. I like it so far.

I hope you like this one better than I did. I've read all of the others and really liked the first series as well as Clockwork Angel. But I think she should have left that first series as it ended.

I just finished Divergent which I absolutely loved. It shall be one I read again, hopefully soon. I've now moved on to The Lost World

I had heard so many great things about it that I was so excited to read. However, I ended up just thinking the book was okay. I wasn't crazy about the main character Hannah and felt it was a little disjointed. Really interesting idea though. : )

Oh, that is a pity. I start to think it all depends on if you like Hannah or not, to end it with a good feeling or not. Because when I hear people say they didn't think it was a great book, Hannah is the reason. I adored the book and besides the story it is Hannah that I liked a lot. I liked her character, the kind of person she, the life she lives.
Hvae you read any of her other books? Read one or two others and really liked them too but this is for now my favourite.

The correlation between liking the main character and the book definitely makes sense. Hannah's the key which brings it all together. I love how everyone responds differently to characters! : ) I also read Year of Wonders by this author which was another 3* for me. I'd like to give her non-fiction Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women a try.

I read Years of wonder too and liked it too but prefer the other one more. I am also curious to her non-fiction writing. I have high hopes of them after reading her fiction :-)

i'm so behind in my reading, it's sad.

i started The Other Boleyn Girl but stopped around page 225. it was good, but too close to Harlequin romance style for my liking. i'll go back to it at some point, but not just now.

i also started One of Our Thursdays is Missing, the next book in the Thursday Next series. it's good, but i haven't had much time to devote to it.

i'm supposed to read The Geography of Bliss by Monday for my library book group, but i'm not so sure that's going to happen.

maybe i should go read instead of being on the computer....

i finished the forgotten garden by kate morton last night, and loved it. it reminded me a lot of the thirteenth tale by diane setterfield, which is also a great book (i probably liked the thirteenth tale better, but the forgotten garden was wonderful too).

now i'm starting the sweetness at the bottom of the pie, the first book in the "flavia de luce" mystery series.

i'm also starting house of leaves by mark z. danielewski.

Next up is Mockingjay whicn I'm really looking forward to. One of my co-workers said she didn't like it as well as the first two. Any opinions on this book?

Also, has anyone read Wide Sargasso Sea? Now that I've read Jane Eyre, I'm thinking of reading this, which is supposedly a prequel to J.E. Thanks!

Mockingjay wasn't as good as the first two at the end. And there are definitely some things that are WTF moments, that I was super pissed about, but mostly it was the ending that made it fall short of the bar that the first two set. Still, amazing though. I've read it twice and made my best friend read it as well.

"Room" is a great book. And "Jane Eyre" -- my ultimate favorite.

I just finished Messenger of Truth. The mystery part was good, but as this series progresses, there are more and more psychic-type moments. I'm just not comfortable with that sort of thing and I think I'm going to have to give the series up. But if you're OK with the psychic thing, the Maisie Dobbs series is really well written and I recommend it.
