What are you reading?
Alex wrote: "I loved Around the World! I love pretty much all Jules Verne."Don't like all he wrote but this one I loved.
Reading India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracy, almost half way. Started reading Marchbut will wiat to continue till the end of th emonth to continue with someone else and now starting The Ringmaster's Daughter.
Erika wrote: "Now I'm reading Cleopatra's Daughter, Down to the Bone, and The Sweet Far Thing. Really enjoying all three. Can't wait for Michelle Moran's new book nex..."
I really need to get to The Sweet Far Thing I have been putting it off due to being a little disappointed with the second book. I really love the characters though and want to know how it ends.
I'm currently reading Cat's Cradle, Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto and People of the Book.
I'm new here and just figuring out how to post a new book. So, I'll repeat myself. Just finished Room; it's fantastic, unusual and wonderful.
Rachel wrote: "Flora wrote: "I'm 3/4 of the way thru The Moonstone and it seems like there would be an easier way to solve this mystery than they way they are going about it. Its like the obvious answ..."Now that you mention it, it does remind me alot of Scooby Doo. I just finished this one and I thought it would never end actually. The same info being told over and over. Dont get me wrong, I liked it ok. But not as good as The Woman in White
I just finished The Templar Legacy.I was going to read 20th Century Ghost but I am getting an error message and my Nook won't open the library book. I'll have to fix this when I get home.
I guess I will start The Drawing of the Three instead.
Stephanie and Erika, the sweet far thing was my least favorite of the series. I was so disappointed with the ending that I stopped recommending the series. But, I'm one of those people that no matter how good the book is if I don't like the ending it completely ruins everything for me. Just wanted to give you a heads up that you might not like what happens, but I hope you still read it and hopefully you'll enjoy it more than I did!
Ok, after I posted last night I started Invisible - an Ivy Malone mystery Invisible - it was a freebie for my Kindle, and seems like it will be light enough to give me a fresh palette for my next read. Anyone read these books?
Ann from S.C. wrote: "I finished SIZZLING SIXTEEN and laughed and laughed! Now am reading RAVENS by George Dawes Green."I know! My family always knows when I'm reading Evanovich bc I start laughing out loud at wierd moments. Glad you liked it too.
Hey! I'm just north of you. In NC
I just finished Maybe This Time, and wanted to start The Children's Book, but with the family home with me for 4 days I don't think it's a good idea. I've read a lot about how detailed it is, how hard to keep track of characters, etc. I figure I'll save it for next week when they're all back to school.
So I'm starting Twenties Girl instead.

Kristi - I'm in NC too - Hi neighbor! :) Twenties Girl looks like a good read - let us know!
Finishing up Blockade Billy by Stephen King. Trying to figure out what I want to read next. Way to many books to choose from.
Jessica wrote: "Kristi - I'm in NC too - Hi neighbor! :) Twenties Girl looks like a good read - let us know!"LOL. Well Hiddy-ho neighbor!! (sorry that just popped in my head-Home Improvement)
I will definitely let you know (about the book).
Maybe it's time for me to get off here, and go to bed. LMBO!!
Linda wrote: "Just finished A Vintage Affair. Very enjoyable light read."Added that one to my "to-read" list. I keep looking at it at the bookstore.
Just finished
Invisible - cute - fun little fast read. Now what to read next?!
I've just finished The Sisters Mallone: Una Storia di Famiglia. I really enjoyed it. it is the story of three Italian sisters and their grandma in 1950s New York with flashbacks to 1920-30 showing them as they grew up. Incredibly evocative of the Italian community in New York.
Yesterday I gave up on Steve Martin's An Object of Beauty: A Novel, and started David Moody's Autumn - ooohhhh so good! Interesting take on Zombies/plague to end the world.
It's like eating out of a box of candy, I know I should stop and do something else, but I just can't. one more page, one more page...

I finished "My Name is Mary Sutter" Robin Oliveira which I really loved. Parts of it just made me cringe but I thought it was a very good story. Now starting "The Last Child" John Hart
Fated by S.G. Browne I'm about 1/3 of the way through. So far I really like it, there are parts that made me laugh out loud.

I thin I want to read this book as well. I have Kinsella's book on my TBR. I haven't started yet... too many good books to read.
I am so disappointed when I find just a few post on this thread. I just love reading about what you guys are reading. That is why most of the time, I stay away for weeks. That way, I have lots of post to read. Do you also feel that way? I don't post much. I just come and read to get ideas... You could say that I am shy.
Just finished Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible & Why We Don't Know About Them. Very interesting.May start The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe's Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War.
I always forget to update what I'm reading here. I'm currently two-timing: The House of Doctor Dee, a hybrid ghost story / biography of Queen Elizabeth's court magician John Dee that is terrible, and Milton's Paradise Lost, which I don't know why everyone's so intimidated by; it's awesome, except when Adam and Eve are blathering to each other. "Ooh, you're so pretty! What's with the apple?" Blah blah blah, get back to Satan.
Petra wrote: "Clara, what are you currently reading?"I am now reading Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason
Finished the second book of the Dark Tower series The Drawing of the Three yesterday. I haven't visited HPB yet to pick up the third book, so I started Animal Farm.
Alex wrote: "It has to be Daniel Day-Lewis, doesn't it? It just has to be.Well, okay, or Meryl Streep."
Alex, did you hear that Daniel Day-Lewis is playing Abraham Lincoln in Spielberg's movie version of the book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln? I haven't read it yet, but my dad really enjoyed it. I'm interested to see his take on Lincoln.
Oh, and Meryl would ROCK as Satan!
Kristi wrote: "Let the Great World Spin"How did you like it? I am reading it for my book club next month.
Suzanne - yeah, I did, and that makes sense to me. DDL could pull off tall, awkward and inspiring. He and Streep and maybe Johnny Depp are the people I would go see no matter what because I know they'll pull it off.
I've been reading The Vampire Lestat. I like it, but it's a bit too dark and gloomy for my taste, so I'm taking a break from it and started reading The Accidental Woman by Jonathan Coe, which is a short, light and entertaining read.
Lori wrote: "Yesterday I gave up on Steve Martin's An Object of Beauty: A Novel, and started David Moody's Autumn - ooohhhh so good! Interesting take on Zombies/plague to end the w..."Oh, man, really? i was looking forward to that one. No idea why I expected Steve Martin to be a good writer...
Just finished The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon and I loved it. I thing I would like to read Exploration Fawcett as well sometime. Its a fascinating mystery to be sure.Getting ready to start The Crossroads
Alex wrote: "Suzanne - yeah, I did, and that makes sense to me. DDL could pull off tall, awkward and inspiring. He and Streep and maybe Johnny Depp are the people I would go see no matter what because I know ..."
Yeah, and if they couldn't actually pull it off, you'd know it was because no one could pull it off!

Hello neighbor!
Ann from S.C. wrote: "I am reading THE SURRENDERED by Chang-Rae Lee and really liking it."Hi, neighbor!
Reading The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe's Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War. Some curious organizational decisions, but interesting.

I loved Steve Martin's other two novels. This one was just slow and sucky. All about the behind the scenes of the art world, and an uber aggressive gallery employee.

I've heard that this is a good book for recommendations. I should see if the Library has it.
I'm reading a recent Goodreads Giveaway win, Three Seconds. I'm only about 40 pages in and am enjoying it. It's a police crime story revolving around the Eastern European Drug Mafia. It's quite detailed but not overly brutal (yet, that is. It's still early in the book).
Susanna wrote: "Reading The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe's Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War. Some curious organizational decisions, but interesting."Oooh, that's on my TBR list. I'll be looking forward to what you think.
Currently reading Waiting for the Taliban: A Journey Through North Afghanistan - it was an inexpensive read for my Kindle. Really enjoying it so far. It's non-fiction, written as almost diary-like dispatches by the offer on assignment for Foreign Affairs magazine. She'd been there in '01, and returns to Northern Afganistan 9 years later. Finding it answering some of my questions of what is going wrong there.
I just finished The Distant Hours. I liked the beginning and the end, seems it just dragged on through the middle of the book. I was going to read The Forgotten Garden next but I'm going to pass on it for awhile. I'm going to the library tomorrow to pick up The Scent of Rain and Lightning.
