What are you reading?

How was Veronika Decides to Die? I'm debating whether to read it or not.

How was Veronika Decide..."
I liked it. It's a little "deep" in the sense that it tells the story of Veronika who unsuccessfully tries to commit suicide and finds herself in a mental institution. She learns that her attempt at her life irrevocably damaged her heart so she only has a few days to live. This all causes her to reexamine herself and asks questions like "what does it mean to be 'crazy'?, what's the purpose of living?", etc. It only took me one day to read (I have a long commute). Reminds me a little of a modern day Siddhartha. Not sure if you read that.

"Lamb...." is my favorite Christopher Moore book so far. Hope you enjoy it, Scott.

I was one who really loved "Sarah's Key" but thought "The Postmistress" was just ok.

I was also disappointed in Sarah's Key and at the time was going through a run of mediocre books.

For all the people suffering through mediocrity, I highly recommend Goodreads Author Batt Humphrey's Dead Weight.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is one of my all time favorites. Hope you enjoy it!

OOH I love this book!! I love the the heroine and the archeological aspects of the book. I was happy to learn it would be a series. Hope you enjoy it

I liked it too and was happy to find a new author to watch out for!

'Poisonwood...' one of my biggest faves also!

I'm loving Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. This was one of those mornings that I wish I didn't have to get off the train so I could finish it. Something to look forward to on my way home from work. . .

I finished The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements last night. Very enjoyable, and I even learned some stuff.
Started Cutting for Stone; I'm a bit nervous about it, because the description frankly doesn't interest me at all, but I'm a fan of Ethiopia so I knew I'd have to read this eventually.

Hope you enjoy The Summoning, Alisha. I did enjoy it and I'm now reading the second book, The Awakening

Having finished Coriolanus, I'm back to This Body of Death.

"The Poisonwood Bible" was a favorite of mine too, and a few weeks ago, I heard a delightful interview with Barbara Kingsolver on the BBC. I don't know why I expected her to sound schoolmarmish, but she came across as being young and lively and not at all critical or bored or rude and snobbish.

TGWTDT will become a white-knuckle read after awhile. Just be patient. I don't know anyone who hasn't liked it yet. I say that, and I can't seem to find the time to start the 2nd or 3rd in the series.

I've been wanting to read that one, glad to know you enjoyed it!

It is Splendid! It is the sequel to

Alisha, let us know how you like The Woman in Black. I nominated that for the October group read - it looks good and spooky.

Did you like "Christmas Jars"? I really liked it when I read it last year. There is a sequel that I haven't read yet.

I was also disappointed in Sarah's Key and at the time was going through a run of mediocre books.
Even Angel's Game let me down by ending badly after a brilliant start.
But then I read The Girl Who Played with Fire, which was excellent, and Incarceron, which was even better, and now all is right with the world :0)
