What are you reading?
I finished Hell House by Richard Matheson and though I thought it was okay, it really couldn't hold a candle to Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. Now I'm continuing with my semi-horror month and reading Bad Girls Don't Die.
I finished
on my flight to Florida, and started reading
on my way back. I am 60 pages in and so far I am iffy on it. I like it but I am not in love with it yet, but its a long book so I am hoping it'll grow on me.

I liked it too and was happy to find a new author to watch out for!
Finished The Poisonwood Bible (Kingsolver) over the weekend -- amazing! Definitely an "unputdownable" read for me. Just started The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Christie) - love me some classic murder mystery!

I'm loving Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. This was one of those mornings that I wish I didn't have to get off the train so I could finish it. Something to look forward to on my way home from work. . .
I know that feeling, Patricia. I've been known to ride an extra stop just to keep reading. I finished The Disappearing Spoon: And Other True Tales of Madness, Love, and the History of the World from the Periodic Table of the Elements last night. Very enjoyable, and I even learned some stuff.
Started Cutting for Stone; I'm a bit nervous about it, because the description frankly doesn't interest me at all, but I'm a fan of Ethiopia so I knew I'd have to read this eventually.
I finished The Art of Racing in the Rain. Thank goodness for that ending, which I loved. I also finished Anathem, which was very original and a lot of work. Next up is Little, Big. After that, definitely, I need something fun and light hearted.
Alisha wrote: "I finished Naomi's Room and it was definitely the scariest book I've ever read. I was terrified to go to sleep, so mission accomplished. Now I'm reading The Summoning."Hope you enjoy The Summoning, Alisha. I did enjoy it and I'm now reading the second book, The Awakening
I just finished
by J.A. Jance. Finished that book in less than 24 hours. I'm currently reading the second book in the Darkest Powers Trilogy,
by Kelley Armstrong
I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha. It was amazing! I gave it a five stars, something I rarely do. Now I'm reading Firefly Lane. So far so good.
I found it took a little while to get into Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and then I loved it.Having finished Coriolanus, I'm back to This Body of Death.
Along with The Witchery I've also just started The Book of Time and also Vampire Chronicles: Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned
im currently reading saving max its a debut novel for 2010, sooo good so far, if you haven't read it you should pick it up

I don't know why I expected her to sound schoolmarmish, but she came across as being young and lively and not at all critical or bored or rude and snobbish.
Kristin wrote: "I finished

i started The Girl Who Played With Fire at lunch yesterday. i think i have to have it read for my book group next Friday. so far it's about as good as the first one was, so hoping that it stays that way.
I finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. A 5 star read for me! Now I'm going to start The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
Finished Bad Girls Don't Die and it was okay. Pretty creepy, but annoying protagonist kept it from being good. Now I'm going to start The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story by Susan Hill. Hmmm. I may be going a little bit overboard on the horror. I'm jumping at regular, run of the mill sounds and am basically a walking jumble of nerves... Oh well, October is almost over so might as well go all the way.
I did it! I finished The Mists of Avalon, and it was wonderful. I don't think I've been this sad since I read Never Let Me Go last year. I'll put a review up tomorrow. I need some time to think about it and get things straight in my head before I try to write anything down.

I am currently reading The Baker's Apprentice
by Judith R. HendricksIt is Splendid! It is the sequel to
Bread Alone
Alisha wrote: "Finished Bad Girls Don't Die and it was okay. Pretty creepy, but annoying protagonist kept it from being good. Now I'm going to start The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story..."Alisha, let us know how you like The Woman in Black. I nominated that for the October group read - it looks good and spooky.
Brenda wrote: "I finished Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright last night. I am not usre what I will read next.Did you like "Christmas Jars"? I really liked it when I read it last year. There is a sequel that I haven't read yet.
Reading Jane Eyre and The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint; listening to The Invisible Bridge on audio. Enjoying all three, especially the audio book.
I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far (I'm just over halfway through). It's a lot more readable than some of the other classics I've tackled this year, including Jane Austen, whose syntax gives me a headache.
I've finished my review for The Mists of Avalon. It's a hard book to review, but a great book to read.
Just started The Exile: An Outlander Graphic Novel and Shiver, thought I'd try something a little different
Picked up The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud and Room from the library so my other books will have to wait until I read these two. I have been watching baseball the last two nights so I have not been reading alot.
I'm currently reading Dickens's Dombey and Son - primarily for my upcoming literature course. Its a little slow to begin with, but is gradually picking up the pace, and has been quite moving recently. The real joy thus far, as in all Dickens novels, are the caricatures though - a spectrum of the good, the bad and the ugly.
Have been a little slacking on my reads but I have a good excuse! I am writing my thesis -on online book clubs LOL.I took a teeny break and now I am totally engulfed in readin The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
I finished reading Doctor Zhivago this morning. I loved this book. It wasn't always easy to read and certainly wasn't the love story I expected to find between the pages. It was a greater love story than that: the love of a man for his country.
Brilliantly told. Pasternak was way ahead of his time and I can understand why the Regime of his time did not want the book published.
I think I'm going to start The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon this afternoon.
Kitty wrote: "Monef wrote: "Kitty wrote: "Monef wrote: "I finished Sarah's Key which was incredinly disappointing and am now reading The Postmistress. I will take your recommendation of 'The Children's Book' up though, especially as it is a group read for November. Thanks!
Claire wrote: "Alisha wrote: "Finished Bad Girls Don't Die and it was okay. Pretty creepy, but annoying protagonist kept it from being good. I was a little less than halfway through and nothing of interest was happening. I understand the need to build the atmosphere and can appreciate it (I am a huge fan of The Haunting of Hill House, after all), but The Woman in Black was just dragging on. Maybe I'll pick it back up at a later date, but right now I doubt it.
Anyway now I'm reading Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry and it's pretty intense so far.
Alisha wrote: "Claire wrote: "Alisha wrote: "Finished Bad Girls Don't Die and it was okay. Pretty creepy, but annoying protagonist kept it from being good. Monef wrote: "I finished Sarah's Key which was incredibly disappointing and am now reading The Postmistress. I really hope that goes better."There were some stories or POV that I liked better, but I did enjoy the book overall. I think the fact that it went by so fast helped with my level of enjoyment; I didn't feel like I was plodding through pages upon pages. I hope it's a little better than Sarah's Key for you, haven't read that one myself yet.

I found Veronika Decides To Die quite good at the time. While I don't remember much about it now, I agree, that it was "deep" and dealt with a lot of heavy issues, but I remember liking Veronika. I didn't find her pathetic or annoying like I thought I might. And it was a quick read, which to me, is always a bonus :)
Emma wrote: "Patricia wrote: "Esther wrote: "Patricia wrote: "I finished Veronika Decides to Die by Paulo Coelho and am now reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran..."I also just finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath which dealt with similar issues as Veronika Decides to Die (mental health). Another good read.
just finished reading No Humans Involved By Kelley Armstrong i liked it but as usually its not as good as her first book Bitten
Ho Hum not reading anything at the moment. I will pick out something today. I just finished House of Mirth excellent book if anyone is interested.
Patricia wrote: "Moving on to The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver."How is 'The Lacuna'? I almost bought it the other day but didn't.
