Charity (charityross) Me too! We always turn on the reggae during dinner. Peaceful.

message 2253: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Wait, did I spell it right ???

message 2254: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't own any reggae...not that I don't like it.

message 2255: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Yep.

message 2256: by Donna (last edited Aug 06, 2008 11:36AM) (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments But I love Disturbed and Ill Nino

I have manyy different moods (as I am a women LOL) and I can go from screaming-in-your-face music to opera and Mozart!

So it's whatever the day brings

message 2257: by [deleted user] (new)

Disturbed is GREAT! Wa-a-a-a!

message 2258: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I guess I better get back to reading Choke while it's peaceful here. Laundry beckons...

message 2259: by [deleted user] (new)

I bet Disturbed is a great band to listen to while reading Palahniuk!!

message 2260: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I think I'l give myself 20 more minutes until I go back to read the crap that is Breaking Dawn. Good luck with reading Charity!

message 2261: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I'm sure it is jeremy!!! Though naming my kid Drainman....?

message 2262: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Fiona, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Wind-Up Bird when you finish. I read it about six months ago and am still unsure what I think about it. I think I need to read more Murakami before I can have a definitive opinion.

message 2263: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Emma, you're hilarious. I can't believe that you put yourself through such torture every time there's a new Meyer book. You're far more dedicated than I could ever be.

message 2264: by Emma (last edited Aug 06, 2008 12:06PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, well, knowing what books are crap is a part of being well read. And after this, I'm finished with the hell Meyer has created! Also, I've gotten all of the spoilers, so I can bulid up my fury and then scream at the book when the time comes. It's quite fun to torture myself. Really.

message 2265: by Tisha (last edited Aug 06, 2008 12:35PM) (new)

Tisha OMg!! I just logged on before i went to bed last night...and was finally able to get through my piled up workload today and finally log on to see 197 posts! Since last night! I think thats a new record.

I missed everything...so to recap...

- I think everyone in England sounds posh.
- I've lived on the West Coast for 4 years and STILL get told I have traces of a Mid-West accent. Apparently I hold some of my Vowels (i.e. Bad, Hocky, & Costco are the things called out most)
- I eat KETCHUP on hot dogs, BBQ or Ranch on French Fries and think vinegar is gross
- Marley is a really cute kids name
- Never taken the subway.

Phew.... think I covered the gist of everything you all (y'all for some of you!) covered!

And to answer the actual thread topic... I am still reading The Book Thief!

::passing out::

It's gotta be worth it, Donna, this group picked it! :) (Just in case, though, I didn't vote for it.)

message 2274: by Charity (last edited Aug 06, 2008 01:31PM) (new)

Charity (charityross) Lori, I thought you wrote Holy Off Topic, Batman! I had to reread what you actually wrote. :-)

message 2275: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Donna, I have to second Ken's recommendation of Mole People. I stumbled across it while shelving at Borders once and dropped everything to read it. There was also a documentary made in 2000 about the homeless in the tunnels. I think it was called Dark Days. A very interesting subject, to be sure.

message 2276: by Tisha (new)

Tisha Donna, I will let you know what I think. If feels like no one else is reading it though because there are never updates in the 'Book Thief' threads! :(

message 2277: by JT (new)

JT (jtishere) I am so bummed I miss the food convo!! After reading all the posts, my mouth is watering big time. Btw, I happen to CRAVE ketchup with my french fries. Sometimes, it's like eating the fries so I can have the ketchup! (twisted, I know)

message 2278: by Tisha (new)

Tisha ohhhh...and i forgot. I LOVE philly cheesesteak sandwiches. yum.

message 2279: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Ketchup and mayo?Only in Canada you say! Never had it and never will.

message 2280: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
I hate ketchup.. for fries, its vinegar or cheese... nothing else...

As far as the Book of Lost Things.. I am sure if you are patient, some people are waiting till they finish to post, and others seem to not have gotten their hands on a copy yet!

message 2281: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Book Thief, not BoLT. Easily confusable, I've done it quite a few times flipping between the discussions. I have to remind myself, "No, this one is narrated by death. The other one has a freaky Red Riding Hood." Speaking of which, the twisted fairy tales theme reminds me of the play Into The Woods. Has anyone else seen it before?

message 2282: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
damn... I meant Book Thief, my fingers are typing whatever they want to apparently... Grrrr...

Yeah, i had forgotten about the Red Riding Hood thing... I always said it was TWISTED tho... haa haa

message 2283: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (darcy-elizabeth) I actually just finished Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs (which I enjoyed).

I also started Glamourama by Bret Easton. Then of course, King Lear for my summer AP Lit homework!

message 2284: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I just finished AUDITION by Barbara Walters and absolutely loved it.
This book is loaded with history, humor, celebrity secrets and personal stuff about Barbara herself. I read a library book and preceded to purchase a copy because I want to have it in my own library.

I am currently reading THE ZOOKEEPERS WIFE by Diane Ackerman. I thought it was a fictional story about a Polish Zoo during WWII. Turns out it's a TRUE story about a Polish Zoo during WWII. So far, interesting, but easy to put down.

message 2285: by alicia (last edited Aug 06, 2008 07:06PM) (new)

message 2286: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 224 comments FINALLY finished Pillars of the Earth. It took a long time to read it because I kept putting it down and picking up something else. I did enjoy it though, even though it was an epic 900+ pages. Now I can read the books for this group...started Book of Lost Things and am liking it so far.

Ken...would the "Yum-Yum" be a doughnut????

message 2287: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 224 comments Ahhh...see I was thinking of the Yum Yum Bakeries in the Philly area. Good donuts!

Never heard of it as a Italian Ice. I was raised eating Rita's Water Ice on the streets of Philly.

message 2288: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 224 comments Yes, I am from Philly. Lived in the Northeast off of Frankford Ave for 12 years, then the family moved to Langhorne in Bucks County. Lived there until I moved to Northern VA 3 years ago. But I miss Philly!!!! But I am still standing by my Eagles! Can't wait for the season to start!

message 2289: by Jenna (new)

Jenna | 224 comments I know Aramingo...I was from further up, by Holy Family College (now University). I hope we get a good season this year with the Birds. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

message 2290: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) LOGAN - Are you online?? Because I'm dying to talk to you about Choke.

message 2291: by Rose Ann (new)

Rose Ann I just started Memoirs of a Geisha, and just finished The Red Leather Diary by Lily Koppel

message 2292: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I brought the Red Leather Diary but have yet to read it? What did you think Rose Ann?

message 2293: by Sera (last edited Aug 07, 2008 05:46AM) (new)

Sera Ken and Jenna, I am a diehard Eagles fan! Nice to find other people in the club to cheer the team on with. I heard this morning on WIP that Andrews is going to see his psychiatrist down South today. Everyone is hoping that he will be making it to camp soon. McNabb does look great, and I bet that he has a great season, since he is playing for a new contract with another team.

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) Rose Ann, I envy you just starting Memoirs of a Geisha - that is in my top 5 of all time. Fantastic book.cf

message 2295: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Charity, sorry I took last night as a chance to unplug my umbilical cord from the internet. I was starting to grow moss I'd been sitting here so long.

Hey now sports fans- we've got a thread for the likes of you.

message 2296: by Sera (new)

Sera Sorry, Logan - still catching up, and I haven't seen any sports posts yet.

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) I picked up a copy of the biography of Madonna written by her brother (cheaply at the supermarket) as I wanted a quick, easy, trashy read. And my god is it trashy! It's hideous but I refuse to put another book down unfinnished after yesterday. What a self-pitying, week, wimpy, name-dropping fame-seaker this man is! Bleck!

message 2298: by Tisha (new)

Tisha that's weird then that it was written by her brother. yeck.

message 2299: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I. Am. So. Sad. I'm pathetic. I have no idea why I'm even reading Breaking Dawn now. It's the soap opera I can't look away from. It's corny, cheesy, crappy, all of the above. Yet I can't look away. I suppose I should be getting pleasure out of this tragedy that is called a book, but I'm not. It's like pulling each one of my teeth out. Yet I can't look away. It's like a drug fix. I'm ashamed of myself.

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) LOL Emma - that's how I feel about this Madonna thing. It's like a car crash - I can't stop looking.
