What are you reading?
Am still stalled in both A Room of One's Own and America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction. Maybe I need to read something fun and palate-cleansing?
Two of my top three favorite writers of all time are Rudyard Kipling and Lucy Maud Montgomery. I try to make everyone read Kim, but the short stories and the poetry are the best things he did. The trouble is that there isn't a comprehensive short story collection. Every one in print leaves out several of my favorites. :( At least I have Rudyard Kipling: Complete Verse.
Ruby, I did wind up enjoying Kim, but it did take a while. I finished that yesterday and have moved on to Kipling's The Day's Work. I haven't even finished the first story yet, but from what I gathered from the Introduction I think this one will definitely interest me.
I'm finishing The Hunger Games trilogy now. Love it!

Me too. That was an excellent book.

I'm glad to hear you liked it so much. It's definitely an interesting concept. I've been meaning to read it for a while and once I realized the movie was coming out I figured I'd better get to it. I always prefer to read the book before seeing the film. Good luck finding someone to go with you.
I held out on Catching Fire until Mockingjay came out and have now raced through Catching Fire and am about halfway through Mockinjay.I'm also partway through Beat the Reaper, which I know got raves but I somehow just can't get into very well.
Patricia wrote: "I finished Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. I thought it was pretty silly. Now I am reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro."Patricia, I read Alice while I was on a very long holiday in Italy and would be reading a book of 800 pages in one week. This book however (which my boyfriend thought I would like) took me almost a month because I really didn't like it and thought it was pretty stupid. I dragged myself through it and it isn't even long.
After finishing The Scarpetta Factor and The Brave I am still continuing the brick India After Gandhi: The History of the World's Largest Democracyand the getting more enjoyable Sense and Sensibility. Will start Inkdeaththis evening.
Tammy wrote: "I read Room: A Novel yesterday. What a great book! I started The Piano Teacher this morning."I just found Room on here the other day, i've never heard of it before but I defiantly want to read it. Everyone's been saying good things about it.
Finally finished The Blind Assassin, I was begining to think the book never ended. I'm moving on to The Black Cat as well as The Dracula Dossier: A Novel of Suspense
I am currently reading PAULO COELHO'THE ALCHEMIST'.I have been waiting with anticipation to read this book ,finally i was able to purchase together with many others.
My next book to read after THE ALCHEMIST it is THE STONE DIARIES BY CAROL SHEILDS another lucky find
read Ginger Pye and it was so terrible I had to go back and read the entire Melendy Family series by Elizabeth Enright to make sure that real, well-crafted children's literature actually exists.
Emilly wrote: "I am currently reading PAULO COELHO'THE ALCHEMIST'.I have been waiting with anticipation to read this book ,finally i was able to purchase together with many others."Hope you like it. I looked forward reading it for years, then read it and though it wasn't bad it wasn't THAT good either.
I know the feeling about having a book on the shelf and not been interest at all,i got Maeve Binchy-London Transport one of this days i will read, if God is my witness
Emilly wrote: "I am currently reading PAULO COELHO'THE ALCHEMIST'.I have been waiting with anticipation to read this book ,finally i was able to purchase together with many others."I read this one not too long ago. I hope you like it better than I did.
I was talking to a person running a coffee shop at a doctor complex today while waiting for my daughter. We were talking about books because I had one with me and she had one on the counter. She had also read "Racing in the Rain" and loved it also. The hour I waited for my daughter went by very quickly!
Thanks for all the kudos for Racing in the Rain. It is a book I need to read for the November read in one of my book clubs. I am now looking forward to reading it!
Marti - I have a feeling you'll love the book also, I don't think i've seen anyone write anything bad about it.I will say that some of the chapters I thought were a bit boring, but they're so short that it doesn't even matter.
I am currenty reading, The Ode Less Travelled, Frankenstein, Bless Me, Ultima, and The House of Spirits, which I am loving and should be done with tonight :D
Catie, I have that noted. I'll make a double feature of it. Thanks!I loved Never Let You Go as well, and am dubious that the movie can work. And I agree, it's something best read with no idea what you're getting into.
I always comment on other peoples' books but forget to mention what I'm reading. I'm reading Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which seems appropriate since it's Banned Book Week. It's monumentally good.
I just finished
, I started
the other night before bed and made it 20 pages in.. I think I am going to try to breeze through this one quick before I start any others.
I finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro last night. What an interesting novel. Very sad & disturbing but also very unique & well written. I'm curious to see how it'll translate into a movie. I now moved on to Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving. I'm a huge John Irving fan so I'm psyched to finally get to his newest one.

Thanks Stephanie.. Now i want to go and buy the first book :)
Next read for our book club is The Art of Racing in the Rain - which I look forward to very much, having heard great things about it.
Just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger... Phew.... Now i'm reading The Enemy by Lee Child. Only a few pages in, but looks like I will enjoy this book
Patricia wrote: "I finished Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro last night. What an interesting novel. Very sad & disturbing but also very unique & well written. I'm curious to see how it'll translate ..."Two awesome books in a row! I don't think you'll be disappointed with Irving's latest. :o)
Rosabelle wrote: "Just finished reading The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger... Phew.... Now i'm reading The Enemy by Lee Child. Only a few pages in, but looks like I will enjoy this book"You didn't like The Catcher in the Rye? I've read it twice and really enjoyed it both times.

I thought it was a very unique spin on modern-day vampires. This is coming from someone who hasn't really liked any vampire stories she's read, but this one.
I finished A City of Ghosts: Stories and I thought that it was just okay. A couple of the stories in here were creepy, but for the most part, I was a bit underwhelmed. I've just started Firefly Lane and I'm really liking it so far.
I just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray (blah) and started Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I need to move some more books to my iPod Touch because I'm about out of options.
Heather wrote: "Kristin wrote: "I just finished

I liked it, I am very glad that I didn't run out and pay full price for it when she told me about it. I found the beginning boring. The ending for me was the best part.. it got better towards the end. and I do agree with Alisha it is a nice modern twist on vampires.. no glittering or anything stupid like that LOL.
Usually I find myself liking a lot of the books that everyone else does, but this one was iffy.. maybe I just wasnt in the right mind-set for it.. coming off of 15 Stephanie Plum books...

And lots of love for ROOm too! That book was amazing, wasn't it? Have you heard Emma Donaghue talk about the book on NPR? if not, here's the link:http://n.pr/cC8SoY
I have finished David Moody's sequel to Hater - Dog Blood. I favor Hater slightly, but that is the case with all book series for me. A great new monster lit series, though. Watch out Zombies and Vamps, Haters are coming to take your place!

I love that book with all of my heart. It's one of the best books I have ever read. I am trying to get someone to go see the movie with me so I don't have to go alone.

I really enjoyed it. I found it to be both more mature and more emotional than Pride and Prejudice. I hope you like it. :)
