Julie (readerjules) I just started reading The Book Thief. Its an oddly written book. What's with the bold text in the ***'s? I have a feeling this is going to be interesting....

Leslie T. (lat0403) | 69 comments I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I planned on reading The Passage next, but now I really want to read The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I wished I could have read all of the steig larsson together. I like doing that - reading a series especially only three - right in a row..

I am presently reading a Maise Dobbs book Birds of a Feather, but have been so busy that I haven't had a chance today to just read...

I also have Diane Chamberlain's book I have started The Lies We Told

message 21004: by Vicki (new)

I usually like to read as well, but I have a very boring office job and listening to audiobooks is the only way I stay awake.

I've never seen Gossip Girl. I don't watch much TV. I've considered it a few times, but never gotten around to actually watching it.

message 21006: by Karen (new)

Karen (ocdofbooks) I am reading "Perfect Chemistry" by Simone Ekeles. I am just beginning to venture into YA books and this one seems pretty good so far.

I'm going to be the little devil on your shoulder and tell you to read The Girl Who Played with Fire. I just finished it and it's even more amazing than the first.

Wow, what book envy I have! I'd love to read it and keep clicking for it to be available for Kindle - fingers crossed!

message 21009: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished My Brother's Keeper: The Official Bra Boys Story the other day which I liked, though it did drag on for me. A lot about surfing, which not being a sufer wasn't that capturing for me. The second half of the book was much more interesting.

Now onto Seeds of Greatness which I've just started the second chapter of. A bit funny but not laugh out loud funny, will have to see how it goes to form a judgement yet.

Here's a basic rundown of The Great Gatsby - symbolism, symbolism, symbolism, bunch of things that are no longer relevant, EMO ALERT!, he shoots him, MORE EMO!, symbolism, the end. Really not worth the time to read.

I listened to it on audio - it was one of those strange, "poisoned mind candy" books that, while I wasn't certain I actually enjoyed reading, I couldn't stop listening to it, either. Very bizarre book, in the "Victorian style" writing. It's long, and I can't really say "it's worth it" but I can say "you should read it."

Haha. I have an eclectic taste in books, I'm aware. That's part of what I love about reading... there's just so many different kinds of narratives and stories to taste and experience. You've definitely been helpful. I didn't know You Suck was a sequel either... nothing on the book make any indication of that fact, which is strange. Is reading the first one essential?

Jesi wrote: "Here's a basic rundown of The Great Gatsby - symbolism, symbolism, symbolism, bunch of things that are no longer relevant, EMO ALERT!, she shoots him, MORE EMO!, symbolism, the end. Really not worth the time to read."

DUDE. Jesi. Did you just majorly spoil me!? I own the book, I'm going to read it eventually, if not now!

message 21022: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliemdobson) I'm currently reading The Passage (just started, not enjoying it much. I really hope it picks up pace and starts to get better real soon, or it's going to be abandoned.)

Also Reading Secret Daughter (really enjoying it, for an online discussion group I joined. I was hoping for a different choice, and didn't think I'd like it, but so far its a good read)

Finally I have The Tenant of Windfell Hall. So far not half bad.

message 21023: by Carol (new)

Carol I loved The Tenant Of Windfell Hall. It was so progressive for it's time. Anne was a woman of liberal leanings and was not afraid to voice her views. This bookbook was banned when it first came out as too subversive for women to read. Hahahah. They might get uppity ideas. (snort, snicker)

*I* wouldn't consider it a spoiler, unless you've read the book, but that's just the way my brain works.

As far as You Suck/Bloodsucking Fiends... Moore's books (even his "series" books) are easy to read as stand-alones. There's a bit of worldbuilding from each of them that you might miss (as expected) but it's usually not that important. So, even if you don't have Bloodsucking Fiends, you should be able to read You Suck without a problem.

It took me until I was about 30% into the book to get it into the "okay, I can tolerate this" area of "liking" the Passage.

Yeah, that part of the book I'm really enjoying, and the writing is very well done as well. It's better than her other book. My biggest problem are a lot of the characters are intolerable in the better moments, let alone during the rest of the book.

Laura: I've only seen season 1 of GOSSIP GIRL and that was a while ago so I remember bits and pieces. I did enjoy it though. It's a guilty pleasure. I've never read the books. I think season 3 is airing now. Unfortunately my library doesn't have this show on DVD. I'll have to wait until I re-start NETFLIX.

I understand, I am rather eclectic with my reading too, but I get into moods for certain books. The only problem is when I can't figure out what kind of book I am in the mood for!

I read You Suck and wouldn't have known it was a sequel unless someone here didn't tell me, so I guess it would work. When I looked it up now to make sure I was not misleading you. It says Love Story 2 in parenthesis next to the title on goodreads. I survived though. It was interesting and hilarious.

That reminds me, I need to read the first Maisie Dobbs book. I have had it much too long. How is Birds of a Feather going? And housework is no substitute for reading :)

I love both of these series. I'm currently re-reading the HP series and am up to the Prisoner of Azkaban. I've also started Riordan's new book The Red Pyramid but I don't think this one is gonna be as good as Percy Jackson but we shall see. I'm also reading The Year of the Flood which I am also enjoying

message 21046: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 293 comments I finished Persuasion, I liked it and at first that was all, but the more I think about it the more I increase my estimation. There are a lot of subtle elements that were easy to ignore until they were left to sink in. My favorite is still Mansfield Park though.

Now I'm reading both John F. Kennedy Lives in the Future! and The Epic of Gilgamesh. The former is strange. I'm not sure it's my cup of tea but a couple of the stories or even brief musings have been clever. I'm worried about Gilgamesh. It's an older publication and may suffer for its age. Does anyone know if any greater understandings of the work have come forward since the 70's? Should I be looking for a better/newer translation?
