What are you reading?

Cindy, Ive never read that but liked the movie, it was kinda creepy for its time. You will have to let me know what you think of the book, I would be interested to know if its good!

Finally finished Mysterious Island today. I may pick up some more Verne... even tho his books seem long and technically detailed, i liked the way everything unravelled slowly, making me want to keep turning the pages....
Started to reread Neverwhere for our very first group read. I read this when it first hit paperback, so you can imagine how little i actually remember of it... haa haa. I started this afternoon and im already halfway thru...

Now I'm reading the two I just mentioned, still trying to finish P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield from my last library binge before they're due, and I just couldn't keep my hands off of Promise Me by Harlan Coben that has been staring at me from my bookshelf and crying out "Why haven't you picked me up yet, I've been sitting here for almost 6 months!! GASP!"
Thank goodness I have been able to restrain myself from stopping by B&N (and the Borders is too far away to just stop in, what with gas prices as there are and my commute already brutal at 100 miles/day...I really can't afford to add another 80 miles to the trip just so I can spend that gift card from Christmas that I can think of a hundred ways to spend...I REALLY want to go, but I must be strong and resist!!)
I really do have a problem...*L*

cindy...

Oh and by the way, right now I'm reading Dragonspell by Donita Paul. It was recommended to me by my 16 year old daughter. She read the series several years ago,but still loves them. I must say, I'm enjoying the read.

...it's the little things.
Yeah, Jen, glad to hear that you got a copy to love and to hold and to cherish along with the rest of the group!

I am reading next Trunk Music by Michael Connelly which is the 5th book in his Harry Bosch series.
I'm kinda addicted to series books and right now I am trying to get caught up with several including these two.

As for current reads, I'm still working on Neverwhere for the group read. I am also whipping through New Moon by Stephenie Meyer and Something Blue by Emily Giffin (I forgot how much I LOVE this series by her until I grabbed this off my shelf!) Then there's The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and P.S. I Love you by Ceceila Ahern that I have to finish this week to get it back to the library. And they have two more on hold for me when I go Tuesday...plus the other six that I got on my last visit...*sigh*...can I retire so I have more time to read??

I'm trying to read more of the "classics" than I have in the past. I think I picked a great one to start with - I'm really enjoying Jane so far. She's awesome and I'm only to the 4th or 5th chapter.
I try to avoid reading more than one book at a time because I prefer to focus on one and get really in to it. However, Embrace the Night came in the mail yesterday (just released) and it is an entry in one of my favorite series. LOVING it so far! :)

I'm currently reading Split Second by David Baldacci, and I'm really enjoying it. Got about 100 pages left so should finish it tomorrow. I made the mistake of reading the middle book of this trilogy first, so am backtracking with this one, lol.
Then i'll be moving on to The Book Theif which I'm reading with a YA book group that I'm part of. Sounds interesting and I'm looking forward to it.
Logan..... you said "The first Dexter book is a lot like the first season of the Showtime show. But the second season deviates pretty strongly from the next book".
The second season for Dexter is not out yet, at least for me here.. are you not in the US? It comes out this Sept if I am not mistaken.
I have read all three books before seeing the show, and I agree, the book and 1st season follow one another quite closely. I love them both the same. The book gives you more insight into the character. What drives him, what his family life was like... Niether ruin each other at all in my opinion.

Oh, as far as what Im reading, I am still fighting my way thru VALIS by Philip K. Dick. I find it very hard to get into. This must be my second week with it. (which is a LIFETIME for me to spend on ONE book!)
It's crazy and way out there. I think the main character is sckitso, double personality, thinks he saw god through a pink lazer beam. Time-space stuff is brought into play, and some movie the characters all see that totally whigs them out... Im into the homestretch now, and i cant wait to be done with it. I think I will be happy to never read another Dick novel as long as I live. From what I hear it is based on his real life experiences. That dude has some major issues! A Scanner Darkly was funny and wicked and trippy and I liked it, but this book is awful....

As for Valis, my friend Jack put together a Reader's Advisory Page for the book for a class he's in. It helps shed some light on the book, and Dick's mental illness. It's worth a readthrough and could help give you that last push you need to finish it:

Logan, thanks for the extra info on VALIS. I have about 50 pages to go, the book really goes too far into wacky detail for me. If they just kept to the storyline and left out all the exgesis entries and religious theories, it would flow so much better for me. I actually like the conversations between the characters, but when Fat(Dick) goes on his rants, I get totally lost and confused. hmmmmm.....
BTW, Logan, I am offically a complete idiot! I went out this week and bought Dexter season 1, thinking that is the one i was watching on showtime this fall.... and so i went to the wiki thing, and NOW I SEE I WAS WATCHING SEASON 2 and never even saw season 1!!! Now i cant wait to watch the dvd set i bought!
Yeah!!!!.... and then in answer to the question above, season two follows a parallel storyline to the first and second novels... similar but not totally the same.
I cant tell you how stupid (but excited) I feel now that I realise that I have a whole season to catch up on... derrrr.....

Celeste... that was a great book. I really enjoyed it when i read it. Neil Gaiman has a certain knack for creating characters, doesnt he?

A Blackbird sisters mystery
The Spiderwick Chronicles - The Field Guide
by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
Down The Rabbit's Hole by Peter Abrahams
Sunstroke by Jesse Kellerman

Anyway, when I'm done, it's onto "The Other Boleyn Girl" for the group read.

Eliza, I am right there with you. i just finished Then We Came To The End, and I have three books to choose from to start next.... After thinking long and hard, I decided to start Island by Huxley. Hope I made the right choice!!!

Eliza - Saturday was an utter disappointment for me. The alley scene and the last 50 pages were the only good parts. I will not attempt another McEwan book due to how much i simply disliked that novel.
