about teh chem teacher and hid mid-life crises!

Just finshed this, Fran and loved it as well!! Five stars from me.

The Age of Innocence - Edith Wharton
The Old Man and The Sea - Hemingway
Deafening - Frances Itani
Black Beauty - Anna Sewell
and am currently reading Rabbit, Run by John Updike.
I really loved all four of these book. Rabbit Run is leaving me a little non-plussed. I'm just hoping to finish it soon to move on to something with hooks in it.

I posted this article in another thread, but as its about Wolf Hall, you might find it interesting.

I just started this and I am loving it also. I can't wait to be able to sit down with it tonight and just read!

Extremely interesting, and very factual based. However, I am getting a "Da Vinci Code" vibe to it.

Susanna, that sounds cool too! I love the sorta virtual tour bit. I keep waiting for someone to put together Flash walkthroughs of various landmarks on the web; kinda surprised it hasn't happened yet.
Samuel, the Voynich manuscript is fascinating huh? Does lend itself to Da Vinci Code-esque conspiracy theories though. You'll have to let us know how it turns out.

Deafening - Frances Itani..."
Great book Bridgit! I loved this novel so much. I met Frances Itani at an authors event and she is adorable and was very generous with her time - we talked about writing for nearly 30 minutes. I have her novel Remembering the Bones, which she signed for me that evening, waiting on my book shelf. I'm scared to read it as I don't want to spoil my perfect Itani moment! LOL!!

I will. I thought of you when I started it. I thought you would find it interesting.
Howdy goodreadians! everyone seems to be reading some great books out there.
I am still making my way through Banned for Life - even though it is taking me longer than usual (due to my life, not due to the novel) I am sooo wrapped up it! I cannot keep myself from thinking about when I will be able to pick it up again.
Check it out, if you havent already. Im a little more than halfway through, and it has been amazing since page one!

It was REALLY a wonderful read. I love/hate that feeling though - when you have read something by an author that you just LOVE, and are scared to read anything else by them becuase you just know they are gonna mess it all up and make you possibly fall out of love with them...

Well - technically one was an audio book, so that wasn't 'reading'. and AofI and BB were e-books that i was reading at work for at least 2 weeks and just finished this weekend. Deafening was the only 'book' I read.

Have also gotten through the first chapter of The Bone People by Keri Hulme. This won the Booker prize and is still relatively unheard of in the US I think. Its from a New Zealand author. One chapter in and I am already thinking that I could be blown away by this book. Getting antsy sitting in my chair at work waiting til when I can crack this open again. . .
Has anyone else read this ?

In any case, I was always sort of intrigued by the Hulme book and told myself since that girl Kacie really dug it, I should check it out. I mean, she was cool, so that must mean the book is cool, right? I graduated college in 2000 and never read it. I finally picked a copy up when I worked at Half-Price Books a few years ago (I took care of the Fiction section, so I kept stumbling across the book), read it, and wound up giving it 3-stars. It was good, I was glad I finally read it. But it didn't change my life. I was made at that Kacie chick for a long time after that. She led me astray.
I'll be curious to see what you think of it now. :)

Amber, Iwasn't sure if I would like the book but I have really enjoyed reading it!

I finished it too! And really enjoyed it too. I started reading Empire of the Suntaking place during WW II too.:-) Gonna check out th eone you are reading!

Alisha, Ikept putting the book thief back in the shops because of the hype it got and because the summary gave me a negative feeling. But I finished it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it.Hope you do too.
Bridgit, that is the sign of a great book... getting antsy waiting until you can crack it open again!!!

LOL LOL LOL Opening day is a week away!!!!!
I just picked up The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris from the library today. I hope to start it tonight, if not tomorrow for sure!!!

I'm relatively new; I've lurked for awhile but have never posted.
I recently finished Magic for Beginners by Kelly Link. I'm now reading The DisappearedKim Echlin. I'm about 50 pages into it, and the writing is gorgeous.

I am new to the group! I am excited to see what you are all reading!! I am slowly but surely digging my way out of a stack of "to - read" books!!
I just started The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. My friends have been suggesting this book for some time now, so time to get started! :)
Have any of you read this book?
