Ha! Wow, did I find the wrong Thieves' World. You meant Thieves' World: The Threat of the New Global Network of Organized Crime. Well, that sounds considerably more up my alley. Very interesting. Let me know how you like it when you're done.

Great book Bridgit! I loved this novel so much. I met Frances Itani at an authors event and she is adorable and was very generous with her time - we talked about writing for nearly 30 minutes. I have her novel Remembering the Bones, which she signed for me that evening, waiting on my book shelf. I'm scared to read it as I don't want to spoil my perfect Itani moment! LOL!!

Howdy goodreadians! everyone seems to be reading some great books out there.
I am still making my way through Banned for Life - even though it is taking me longer than usual (due to my life, not due to the novel) I am sooo wrapped up it! I cannot keep myself from thinking about when I will be able to pick it up again.
Check it out, if you havent already. Im a little more than halfway through, and it has been amazing since page one!

Finished The Woman in White, really good. Gonna keep with the mystery theme here and start And Then There Were None.

It was REALLY a wonderful read. I love/hate that feeling though - when you have read something by an author that you just LOVE, and are scared to read anything else by them becuase you just know they are gonna mess it all up and make you possibly fall out of love with them...

Well - technically one was an audio book, so that wasn't 'reading'. and AofI and BB were e-books that i was reading at work for at least 2 weeks and just finished this weekend. Deafening was the only 'book' I read.
Forgot to mention what I am reading now - started a collection of short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald. So far, they are REALLY good. Have also gotten through the first chapter of The Bone People by Keri Hulme. This won the Booker prize and is still relatively unheard of in the US I think. Its from a New Zealand author. One chapter in and I am already thinking that I could be blown away by this book. Getting antsy sitting in my chair at work waiting til when I can crack this open again. . .
Has anyone else read this ?
Bridgit, I had a couple different experiences with that book. My freshman year in college, it was one of a handful of books from which we had to choose. I remember one girl specifically who chose it, and I remember her telling me it "changed her life". So I chose it and couldn't get through the first few pages, so I quit and went with The Shipping News instead. I hated that one too, but my professor said it was too late to change - I was like, "Seriously? I'm like the fastest reader ever." Alas, she wouldn't budge. In any case, I was always sort of intrigued by the Hulme book and told myself since that girl Kacie really dug it, I should check it out. I mean, she was cool, so that must mean the book is cool, right? I graduated college in 2000 and never read it. I finally picked a copy up when I worked at Half-Price Books a few years ago (I took care of the Fiction section, so I kept stumbling across the book), read it, and wound up giving it 3-stars. It was good, I was glad I finally read it. But it didn't change my life. I was made at that Kacie chick for a long time after that. She led me astray.
I'll be curious to see what you think of it now. :)
I started reading The Kite Runner last night, but then Beaded Hope came in the mail and since it's a First Reads win, I decided to read it first. I'm anxious to get back to The Kite Runner, though.
Aw, I misread that as "Bearded Hope" and thought it might be a biography of Kevin Youkilis. I was so excited for a split second.
Several of my friends read it , and I have not as yet read it. It is a book I want to get to soon. I missed a few posts I was talking about The Bone People.

Lori Ann wrote: "Finished Atonement and really enjoyed it. Now reading Skeletons at the Feast, I guess I'm on a WWII kick!"I finished it too! And really enjoyed it too. I started reading Empire of the Suntaking place during WW II too.:-) Gonna check out th eone you are reading!
Alisha wrote: "Finished The Spellmans Strike Again by Lisa Lutz and loved it! I'm so sad that there won't be anymore Spellman novels. I think they're all hilarous and Izzy Spellman it's a riot. ..."Alisha, Ikept putting the book thief back in the shops because of the hype it got and because the summary gave me a negative feeling. But I finished it a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it.Hope you do too.
Bridgit, that is the sign of a great book... getting antsy waiting until you can crack it open again!!!

I just picked up The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris from the library today. I hope to start it tonight, if not tomorrow for sure!!!
Reading The Lazarus Project. It has photographs! I'm easy. I totally think more (good) novels should have pictures.
Hi all,I'm relatively new; I've lurked for awhile but have never posted.
I recently finished Magic for Beginners by Kelly Link. I'm now reading The DisappearedKim Echlin. I'm about 50 pages into it, and the writing is gorgeous.
Hi All!I am new to the group! I am excited to see what you are all reading!! I am slowly but surely digging my way out of a stack of "to - read" books!!
I just started The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. My friends have been suggesting this book for some time now, so time to get started! :)
Have any of you read this book?
i am reading Gone with the Wind. love it. its full of everything i love most in a story romance, danger, suspense, agony, pain. Rhett and Scarlet are made for each other
Finished Her Fearful Symmetry and Lost & Found and Lost & Found. I really liked HFS, but LF was just meh.Now reading The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian.
I am in a bit of a reading-slump. I had a day off from work today because of the insane flooding in Rhode Island. I'm lucky to escape with just a small ceiling leak- lots of people have lost their homes, cars or pets. Devastating. I need a good book to take my mind somewhere else.
I am so sorry for the on going floods. Hopefully the water will ebb soon. Then the massive cleanup begins.
i started jasper fforde's Shades of Grey yesterday. a bit slow at first, simply because his style and wording takes some getting used to, so it's finally starting to pick up.
I was joking? Oh yeah, I was joking. Massachusetts is pretty wet too, although maybe not as bad as Rhode Island. The whole state's out of sump pumps, though. Luckily, we live on a hill; our house has been fine.I've been idly flipping through Beowulf on the Beach: What to Love and What to Skip in Literature's 50 Greatest Hits. It's kinda fun to get his take on the ones I've already read or am about to start; but the constant hyperbole gets tiresome, he tries too hard to be hip (ooh, a cuss word!), and I frequently disagree with his opinions. (The Iliad is not better than the Odyssey.) But they're short essays; it's worth a go if you're into the classics.

SydV: I read The Book Thief sometime ago, but it stays with me to this day. I hesitate to put too fine a point on it since taste is very subjective, but I have recommended this book over and over without hesitation. Hope you enjoy it.
Patricia wrote: "I just finished Saving Ceecee Honeycutt and am currently reading Look Again by Lisa Scottoline."Patricia: How did you like Saving Ceecee Honeycutt? So far everyone I have lent the book to has loved it and recommended it to their friends (no pressure, right?). Look Again was my first Scottoline and I just could not put it down.
At this point I am reading so many books my head is swimming. Needless to say, when you are juggling 5 books, nothing is getting done, buuuuuuut ... I will say that a friend loaned me Beneath a Marble Sky and I was like hmmmmmm for the first 30 pages. Then it started to click for me. About half way through and think I like it more than I anticipated. Also reading The Other Boleyn Girl. Much, much better than Wolf Hall (snore). Thursday Next, First Among Sequels has some highs and lows. Not the gripper that The Eyre Affair was for me. The Bay at Midnight had me at hello.
After much debate I decided to read the first few pages of 100 Years of Solitude to see if I wanted to read it and a few pages turned into 50. So I am reading One Hundred Years of Solitude
I have been reading Loving Frank by Nancy Horan, its a good book ( sort of romance). Other book I am reading is Dead in Dallas, sookie stackhouse the second book. Did not think I would get into reading these books but I am. I am at halfway spot on both of the books.

Thanks Linda!! :) I am only about 50 or so pages into -- but I am very intrigued by it so far!! Looking forward to seeing where it takes me!
