Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I really really enjoyed Not My Daughter. I think she really nailed the mother-daughter relationship. I think the story makes you step back and reflect on teen's having babies.... The last three Barbara Delinsky books have been awesome.

message 17603: by Writerlibrarian (new)

Writerlibrarian I've finished The Foreign Correspondent and starting Night Soldiers. I'm embarking on the Balkans Trek of my Around the World in 80 books challenge. So lots of WW2 books in my near future.

I was handed One for the Money for a book club, never would have read it otherwise. It was really quite a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy.

I love those books. I found myself laughing out loud at Stephanie's family and her inability to do her job!

Just finished it a few minutes ago and I really liked it! I think a lot of people may be reading it recently because the movie is coming out in a couple of weeks. That was my reason :D

Barbara (goodreadscombarb-ken) | 159 comments I'm reading The Private Patient by P.D. James. As a lover of British mysteries, I don't know why I put off reading her for so long, but I'm loving the book and now I have all her others waiting.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I just finished Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin and found it very disappointing. I'm starting to get a little disheartened. Every book I've read so far in 2010 has been very lackluster.

Anyway, now I'm reading The Bird Room by Chris Killen. It was a GR giveaway win and I'm really liking it so far. Here's to hoping it stays that way.

Oh, Alisha, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Mistress of the Art of Death. I loved it and love the series featuring Adelia Aguilar as the strong woman character. Maybe you didn't like the time period? The middle ages is one of my favorite periods. Anyway, with all the great reads out there, your year is sure to improve for you.

Viki, I have been wondering about Last Night in Twisted River: A Novel. Thanks for the positive feedback on it. One of my favorite books is A Widow For One Year by Irving.

Kathy, one thing I did like about Adelia was her sarcastic wit (as a sarcastic female myself, I enjoyed and see the use of it) and I am planning on reading The Serpent's Tale since I already own it. Hopefully I'll like that one more.

I just finished The Bird Room by Chris Killen and enjoyed it. I thought the story had great moments and it was definitely a page turner. Now, I'm going to read The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I read Mistress of the Art of Death and wasn't wildly in love with it either - it probably didn't help that it was sold to me as the best thing since sliced bread.

I have The Serpent's Tale but haven't bothered to read it yet.

Marti, I agree...I have enjoyed all of Delinsky's books that I have read (and there have been many) but her most recent, While My Sister Sleeps, I read in one night...couldn't put it down!

message 17620: by Dara (new)

Dara | 88 comments I had started reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog but found it just too much for me. I don't know French so I was looking up probably 4 words per page as she scatters French words into the story and her sentence structure was so complex that her sentences are like 6-8 lines long. It just felt like too much work to me so I gave up after about 25 pages. I think it sounded like an interesting story but by all accounts there were many, many characters to follow and I just didn't have it in me to work that hard at it at this time...maybe later!

So I am now reading Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. I love her and this book is very good so far. I can't wait to go to her book signing in March in the Chicago suburbs, I went last year and thoroughly enjoyed myself!

message 17623: by Kamee (new)

Kamee (kameem) | 13 comments After finishing The Last Song and before, The Hunger Games & Catching Fire, I feel as if I don't wanna pick up another 'regular' book. It's like they set up an expectation that I want other books to have... so I'm kinda shaky on what to read next. I thought about reading Anna Karenina by Tolstoy as mentioned in the book, but it's so long and I don't think I'll have the time to read it. Does anyone know if Dear John is a really good one?

I will let you know Kathy. I am about 140 pages into it and am really liking it so far. I love JP so I doubt that I won't like it. However, there is athread on another group I am on where it appears not many of them like her much at all. I disagree...but that is the great thing, we can all like different things. It would be very boring if we were all the same!

Vonney - I had heard of Under the Banner of Heaven, but never read it. Looks like I will need to pick that one up in the future as well. Thanks for the recommendation!

message 17643: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal | 144 comments Jamaie, Christine, and Diane U.....I really enjoyed Not My Daughter. I thought it was one of Barbara Delinsky's best novels. It is something that could certainly happen to anyone, and the way some of the town treat's one of the mothers is just ridiculous. Let me know what you think of it once you read it.

Dara-I'm reading Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult. Just wondering what you thought of it if you've read it. I haven't read Vanishing Acts yet either so curious to hear what you thought of it. I love all of the books that I have read by her. And I think that every high school teacher and student should have to read Nineteen Minutes.....my aunt thought it was too intense, but I thought that it was amazing.

I'm not sure why and I'm not proud of it, but I put it aside (I'll definitely pick it up when my brain feels ready again) and am now reading Gold Coast by Elmore Leonard. Your mind doesn't wander reading this kind of book!
