Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Don't judge a book by its cover but I did and it lead me to a backcover summary about smuggling books, a secret library, ...if the book is even jsut like that it should be great! Oh and the book is The Olive Readers

I read that one when it came out. It's one of the good ones. The Montreal background is especially good in this one.

Writerlibrarian The Shadow of the Wind was wonderful. I'm now reading Le Roman Des Jardin which is so out there and by one of my favourite writer.

Tammy AZ (tammyaz) Reading What Came Before He Shot Her and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I just finished the semester & can't wait to dig into a bunch of books.

Jennifer, is this your first Cather? I've only read A Lost Lady by her, but I really enjoyed it and want to check out her other works. If you've read more by her, I'd love to hear what you enjoyed, but at any rate, I'll be curious to hear your opinion on this one.

message 16710: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just finished Finger Lickin Fifteen by Janet Evanovich on my MP3 player. These are always a great listen even if the story is typically just a variation on the same old same old.

Also completed Breathless by Dean Koontz. At this point I am guessing that Koontz is a great read about every other book. This one was kind of ho hum while I thought his last one, Relentless, was really great.

Adam Busker Just started Everything Is Illuminated A Novel this morning...so far it is one of the harder books for me to get into due to the broken English, but everyone seems to love it so I am hoping it grabs me.

The background is Iran in the 70's. I would have to say it's a coming of age story but a sophisticated one. I'm about 2/3's done and so far it's been emotionally moving, humorous and sad. It's also very nicely written.

Delan Robbins | 21 comments Just finished Finger Lickin Fifteen by Janet Evanovich. I just loved that book. It was the 2nd book ive read by her. I started with Fearless Fourteen, and now know i want to start the series from number one because they seem to be so good.

Now im moving onto The Autobiography Of Santa Claus.

message 16727: by Yvette (new)

Yvette (yjacobs99) I just finished My Life in France by Julia Child. Excellent book. Highly recommended. Now I am finishing New Moonby Stephanie Meyer. In my opinion this book is extremely boring but I thought I might as well finish it. Then its off to Cleaving A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsessionby Julie Powell. This looks so good I can hardly wait.

message 16728: by Julie (new)

Julie | 54 comments Just finished The Weight of Silence, it was one of the best books i've read in a long time, now i'm reading Shadowland, and will most likely be finishing it today, becasue of all the snow were getting!! after that im gonna go back to King and read Apt Pupil, then to decide what to bring on my trip to France, i have no idea what books to bring or how many books to bring, any idea?!

Janny (jannywurts) | 142 comments Our next book club read will be A Fine Balanceby Rohinton Mistry - has anyone read this? It looks interesting.

I finally caught up with Robin Hobb's Fool trilogy, which I thought fleshed out her first three in that series quite a bit.

For my own enjoyment, I'm taking my time with Treason's Shore by Sherwood Smith, which finishes out her 4 title series that began with Inda.

message 16731: by Blaine (new)

Blaine DeSantis I am still working on A Conspriacy of Paper. I enjoy it a lot, but it is a slow read. Not uninteresting, but rather lots of old english words, and a path that weaves from place to place and person to person in London of 1719.

message 16733: by Robbin (new)

Robbin I just finished reading Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. It was wonderful, if you like blood and gore. Lots of detail and suspense.
Now, I am starting Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. (from one extreme to the other)Hey, I read anything almost.

Kirstin (ktippie) | 5 comments I just finished Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen
by Julie Powell and what a fantastic book. I could not put it down. She had me laughing out loud.
I've started Suite Francaise by Irène Némirovsky and so far its pretty good.

message 16738: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I just finished The White Queen and I really enjoyed it!!! This was not the first time I had read historical fiction from this time period but it was the first time I read specifically about Elizabeth Woodsville and from her viewpoint (FICTION) written by Phillippa Gregory!

Next according to my handy dandy list from the library, I have to read Sand Sharks by Margaret Maron. The latest of the Deborah Knott mysteries. Oh I wish I could just start it tonight and keep reading - but sleep would be a better option.

For me, overall the book was good but I felt the present day part was not nearly as engaging as the historical part.

I loved Heartsick. Gretchen was so evil and for me at least, a female serial killer unusual. Couldn't wait for sequel, but have to say did not enjoy Evil at Heart nearly as much.

I also enjoyed Weight of Silence. Didn't really expect to as I have a hard time finding "light" books that I like. I was emotionally drawn in to this one. Good read!

Janny - I read this a few months ago with my book club. It is AMAZING. Has become easily one of my top 10 favorites that i have ever read. Don't get me wrong, it is a very depressing read, but the writing is beautiful and the story is so perfectly plotted and well-thought out. ENJOY!

Bridgit - thanks! I do look forward to this book, though I wish we didn't always bob for depressing themes, with this reading club.
