Yes, I've heard good things about The White Queen and have that on my to read shelf.

message 16703: by Adam Busker (new)

Adam Busker Just started Everything Is Illuminated A Novel this morning...so far it is one of the harder books for me to get into due to the broken English, but everyone seems to love it so I am hoping it grabs me.

I loved Book Thief. I thought the beginning was bazaar but after that had a hard time putting it down.

What is this book about, Linda? It sounds intriguing."

The background is Iran in the 70's. I would have to say it's a coming of age story but a sophisticated one. I'm about 2/3's done and so far it's been emotionally moving, humorous and sad. It's also very nicely written.

message 16706: by Delan (new)

Delan Robbins | 21 comments Just finished Finger Lickin Fifteen by Janet Evanovich. I just loved that book. It was the 2nd book ive read by her. I started with Fearless Fourteen, and now know i want to start the series from number one because they seem to be so good.

Now im moving onto The Autobiography Of Santa Claus.

message 16713: by Janny (new)

Janny (jannywurts) | 142 comments Our next book club read will be A Fine Balanceby Rohinton Mistry - has anyone read this? It looks interesting.

I finally caught up with Robin Hobb's Fool trilogy, which I thought fleshed out her first three in that series quite a bit.

For my own enjoyment, I'm taking my time with Treason's Shore by Sherwood Smith, which finishes out her 4 title series that began with Inda.

Carol The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane-Katherine Howe

message 16715: by Blaine (new)

Blaine DeSantis I am still working on A Conspriacy of Paper. I enjoy it a lot, but it is a slow read. Not uninteresting, but rather lots of old english words, and a path that weaves from place to place and person to person in London of 1719.

message 16717: by Robbin (new)

Robbin I just finished reading Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. It was wonderful, if you like blood and gore. Lots of detail and suspense.
Now, I am starting Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. (from one extreme to the other)Hey, I read anything almost.

Kirstin (ktippie) | 5 comments I just finished Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen
by Julie Powell and what a fantastic book. I could not put it down. She had me laughing out loud.
I've started Suite Francaise by Irène Némirovsky and so far its pretty good.

message 16722: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I just finished The White Queen and I really enjoyed it!!! This was not the first time I had read historical fiction from this time period but it was the first time I read specifically about Elizabeth Woodsville and from her viewpoint (FICTION) written by Phillippa Gregory!

Next according to my handy dandy list from the library, I have to read Sand Sharks by Margaret Maron. The latest of the Deborah Knott mysteries. Oh I wish I could just start it tonight and keep reading - but sleep would be a better option.

For me, overall the book was good but I felt the present day part was not nearly as engaging as the historical part.

I loved Heartsick. Gretchen was so evil and for me at least, a female serial killer unusual. Couldn't wait for sequel, but have to say did not enjoy Evil at Heart nearly as much.

I also enjoyed Weight of Silence. Didn't really expect to as I have a hard time finding "light" books that I like. I was emotionally drawn in to this one. Good read!

Janny - I read this a few months ago with my book club. It is AMAZING. Has become easily one of my top 10 favorites that i have ever read. Don't get me wrong, it is a very depressing read, but the writing is beautiful and the story is so perfectly plotted and well-thought out. ENJOY!

The idea behind the book is awesome. Original and funny, but the all too human parts are a bit depressing. It's certainly worth a look.

Janet Fogg I'm just getting ready to start The Time Traveler's Wife. Have been looking forward to it!

message 16742: by Petra (new)

Petra I just finished The Complete Maus over the past week. It's my first graphic novel and I thought it was marvelous! The words and graphics work well together to bring out the emotions and details of the story. These particular books (Maus I & II) are wonderful. Maus I tells the story before being taken to Auschwitz and Maus II, which is much harder to read due to it's subject matter, continues the story in the Concentration Camp to the end of the war. Very poignant.

I haven't started a new book yet. I am continuing with Ulysses as a "background" book and am thinking of starting Bad Monkeys soon.

message 16743: by Carol (new)

Carol Yeah Mr. Joyce is far in my background. I want to finish The Physick Of Deliverance Dane. Then start Wuthering height for the other group read.
