What are you reading?
I am reading Fire by Kristen Cashore - the author of Graceling. I loved Graceling so I hope that I really enjoy this one, too. The books I've been picking up lately - some have been good, but some have been real stinkers!
I'm still plugging away at Under the Dome. I need a good block of uninterrupted time to get through a good chunk of the book --- its good so far.
Jen wrote: The books I've been picking up lately - some have been good, but som have been real stinkers!I've had the same problem. The last several books I've picked up to read have just not captured my interest at all. I was beginning to think it was me; like I might be losing interest in reading. GASP!! I finally picked up Second Opinion by Michael Palmer (medical thriller by a favorite author) and so far so good. SIGH of relief!!
I don't watch much TV at all. When I don't have a book to read I get really bored and then the fridge raids start. :)

You guys are making me want to start Under the Dome right now! It's so big I thought I'd wait til I finished my library books though...
Amanda wrote: "Just staring Possession A Romance, but I'm officially on holidays on the 18th for 2 weeks so the current plan is to sit on my verandah with a fan and a pile of books and not move!!"I found it to be one of the most boring books ever. It had been so highly recommended so I was very disappointed.
Amanda wrote: "Just staring Possession A Romance, but I'm officially on holidays on the 18th for 2 weeks so the current plan is to sit on my verandah with a fan and a pile of books and not move!!"I loved this book. I enjoyed the academic research and the parallels with the characters. I love literature novel and this one is a good one.
Finished The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (2 stars) and I'm about to embark on Messiah by Boris Starling, a thriller set in London.
Just finished

. Wow, what a book. Had me stuck to it over the past 48hrs. This is a great 2nd book for this series. Shows you how Tally and the gang start thinking for themselves and all the trouble they get into lol. Can't wait to see what happens next in the next installment.I would say 8/10 again for me.
Now I am going to read [image error]
Karla wrote: "Thanks Jeane I really want to travel more! I'm traveling through my books these days ;)"Karla that is as lovely as real traveling for me!
I just read Psyche in a Dress by Francesca Lia Block last night. I've been a long time fan of hers since high school and I wish they would make movies out of her books so young adults could know what young adult literature with substance is like. *cough* twilight *cough cough*
I'll start reading Hitchhikers Guide today.

They are inspired by real poets (one of them being Christina Rossetti). I know that the letters and poetry annoy some readers but I loved them.

It's a tough read Brielle but I liked it. Thought it was a very tragic story. A lot of people didn't care for it though and didn't finish it.
I'm reading The Girl Who Married the Moon Tales from Native North America by Joseph Bruchac and Gayle Ross.
I finished THE TERROR and really enjoyed it. It made me really cold though, since it took place in the Anartic. Now am reading JULIE AND JULIA, A YEAR OF COOKING DANGEROUSLY by Julie Powell.
Finished The Stupidest Angel, my first Moore book, and I loved it. Totally quirky! Now on to The Girl Who Played with Fire to see what all the fuss is about.

I understand what you mean. I got that book out and I threw up in my mouth a little bit and took it back. I NEVER leave a book unfinished either..so I completely understand!!
I'm still trying to read The Book Thief. The story has grabbed me and so have the characters, but the writing style is driving me to extreme levels of insanity. I know everyone loves this book (please don't throw eggs at me!), I just wish he wasn't writing as if the reader only has a 30 second attention span.
Still working through The Complete Novels of Jane Austen but started A Christmas Carol by Dickens and Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore yesterday.
Just finish The Handmaid and The Carpenter, by Elizabeth Berg, I think maybe my first by her, probably my last
I am caught up on the Good book, so I have now allowed myself to "take the kids to the library." I checked out 20 books, but only four for me. I am still trying to pre-read a couple of Christmas gifts before I have to wrap them! I started the Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutates and Freakonomics. I need to get Monkeyluv done in the next couple weeks too.
I had to put aside The Eleventh Man and will pick it up again later. I couldn't get into it and Angel Time was waiting for me at the library and I wanted to start it. So far, it's great!
A Change in Altitude A NovelAfter reading Anita Shreve's last book, Testimony, I was scared this new one would kinda suck! BUT>..I am pleasantly surprised! I'm really enjoying it!
Carrie wrote: "Sherry, I've been wanting to check out the Secret Lives book. I hope it's good!!"Have you read the other kudzu books?
i am done with 2 of my books and now i am reading by anne rice vittorio the vampire
Jaime wrote: I got that book out and I threw up in my mouth a little bit and took it back.Haha! I felt the same way. Especially that one line...Ewww.
I finished Death by Zamboni by David David Katzman (Goodreads author!) It was SO funny! There were countless lines that had me laughing out loud. Hard.
I'm starting If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino.
Jessica wrote: "I'm starting If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino."Great book with an interesting twist at the end. Hope you enjoy it.
Lauren wrote: "Gave up on Morality Play for now... On to Three by Ted Dekker!I LOVED Three when I read it Lauren, I hope you'll like it!
Brittany and Brielle, there are a couple of parts in "Almost Moon" that really turned my stomach but I decided to give it a bit longer to see if it improved. If you read on you do understand at the end of the book why Helen did the things she did. I thought it was sad and did like the book (if you can say that about that type of book)but it's not for everyone. : )
Fran wrote: "Just finish The Handmaid and The Carpenter, by Elizabeth Berg, I think maybe my first by her, probably my last"Fran, I have not read this one as it did not sound like one I would like, but have enjoyed many others by Elizabeth Berg, including Dream When You're Feeling Blue, What We Keep, and The Art of Mending. I have a few others in the TBR pile, including her most recent, Home Safe A Novel. If "Handmaid" isn't your thing, do try another.
Tammie wrote: "i am done with 2 of my books and now i am reading by anne rice vittorio the vampire "I read that a while ago. It was one of my first vampire books and there was so much blood I felt physically sick. I also found some of her descriptions a bit tedious. Is that classic Anne Rice or is she usually better than this?

next week, so will give you my verdict hon x
I've almost finished This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. It's really good--funny and sad at the same time--but the narrator is constantly thinking about sex, which, I suspect, is just the way men are. It's a little off-putting--this guy is sitting shiva for his father, his wife has left him, his family is a mess and he can'r go 10 minutes without thinking about getting laid.
I finished the last couple of essays in Ex Libris Confessions of a Common Reader this morning and enjoyed it as much as I'd hoped. A light, fun read. Then I flew through the short The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and afterwards, I ordered myself to take The Shadow of the Wind off my shelf and start reading (I've had a library addiction for months that has prevented me from reading books I own) and the last few hours have disappeared without much thought. I love lazy weekends.....
I am reading East, West- Salman Rushdie. This guy is hilarious. The book is a selection of short stories. One of the stories is titled Yourick. I laughed so hard, it is a take off of Hamlet. You all should read it. (every time I think of it ,I start chuckling)
Just finished Under the Dome A Novel by Stephen King. It was quite good. Probably in my top 3 King novels. Now starting This Boy's Life A Memoir by Tobias Wolff.
I just started reading Grace by Richard Paul Evans. I've never read anything by him before. Sounds good.

I want to read some of Salmun Rushdie's work so badly, although I haven't tried any yet.

I just finished Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. It was a group read for a GR fantasy group. I loved it and gave it 5 stars. I am going to have to find more of his books to read.

I am slogging through because he has a wonderful imagination. His descriptions of the strange people and different places are quite vivid and surprisingly not to flowery for me.
My problem is the lack of emotional inner dialogue, in fact the almost total lack of any emotional connections at all. I just don't care enough about the characters or the plot.
