I am slogging through because he has a wonderful imagination. His descriptions of the strange people and different places are quite vivid and surprisingly not to flowery for me.
My problem is the lack of emotional inner dialogue, in fact the almost total lack of any emotional connections at all. I just don't care enough about the characters or the plot.

Jen I am reading Fire by Kristen Cashore - the author of Graceling. I loved Graceling so I hope that I really enjoy this one, too. The books I've been picking up lately - some have been good, but some have been real stinkers!

Claire (clairebear8) | 514 comments I'm still plugging away at Under the Dome. I need a good block of uninterrupted time to get through a good chunk of the book --- its good so far.

I've had the same problem. The last several books I've picked up to read have just not captured my interest at all. I was beginning to think it was me; like I might be losing interest in reading. GASP!! I finally picked up Second Opinion by Michael Palmer (medical thriller by a favorite author) and so far so good. SIGH of relief!!
I don't watch much TV at all. When I don't have a book to read I get really bored and then the fridge raids start. :)

I found it to be one of the most boring books ever. It had been so highly recommended so I was very disappointed.

I loved this book. I enjoyed the academic research and the parallels with the characters. I love literature novel and this one is a good one.

Finished The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (2 stars) and I'm about to embark on Messiah by Boris Starling, a thriller set in London.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I gave Possession 5 stars.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished [image error] . Wow, what a book. Had me stuck to it over the past 48hrs. This is a great 2nd book for this series. Shows you how Tally and the gang start thinking for themselves and all the trouble they get into lol. Can't wait to see what happens next in the next installment.

I would say 8/10 again for me.

Now I am going to read [image error]

I just read Psyche in a Dress by Francesca Lia Block last night. I've been a long time fan of hers since high school and I wish they would make movies out of her books so young adults could know what young adult literature with substance is like. *cough* twilight *cough cough*

I'll start reading Hitchhikers Guide today.

I know. They are inspired by real poets (one of them being Christina Rossetti). I know that the letters and poetry annoy some readers but I loved them.

It's a tough read Brielle but I liked it. Thought it was a very tragic story. A lot of people didn't care for it though and didn't finish it.

I understand what you mean. I got that book out and I threw up in my mouth a little bit and took it back. I NEVER leave a book unfinished either..so I completely understand!!

I'm still trying to read The Book Thief. The story has grabbed me and so have the characters, but the writing style is driving me to extreme levels of insanity. I know everyone loves this book (please don't throw eggs at me!), I just wish he wasn't writing as if the reader only has a 30 second attention span.

I checked out 20 books, but only four for me. I am still trying to pre-read a couple of Christmas gifts before I have to wrap them! I started the Secret Lives of the Kudzu Debutates and Freakonomics. I need to get Monkeyluv done in the next couple weeks too.

Haha! I felt the same way. Especially that one line...Ewww.

I finished Death by Zamboni by David David Katzman (Goodreads author!) It was SO funny! There were countless lines that had me laughing out loud. Hard.

I'm starting If On a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino.

Paula | 1098 comments Brittany and Brielle, there are a couple of parts in "Almost Moon" that really turned my stomach but I decided to give it a bit longer to see if it improved. If you read on you do understand at the end of the book why Helen did the things she did. I thought it was sad and did like the book (if you can say that about that type of book)but it's not for everyone. : )

Fran, I have not read this one as it did not sound like one I would like, but have enjoyed many others by Elizabeth Berg, including Dream When You're Feeling Blue, What We Keep, and The Art of Mending. I have a few others in the TBR pile, including her most recent, Home Safe A Novel. If "Handmaid" isn't your thing, do try another.

I read that a while ago. It was one of my first vampire books and there was so much blood I felt physically sick. I also found some of her descriptions a bit tedious. Is that classic Anne Rice or is she usually better than this?

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I've almost finished This Is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper. It's really good--funny and sad at the same time--but the narrator is constantly thinking about sex, which, I suspect, is just the way men are. It's a little off-putting--this guy is sitting shiva for his father, his wife has left him, his family is a mess and he can'r go 10 minutes without thinking about getting laid.

message 16542: by Kate (new)

Kate | 119 comments I finished the last couple of essays in Ex Libris Confessions of a Common Reader this morning and enjoyed it as much as I'd hoped. A light, fun read.
Then I flew through the short The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and afterwards, I ordered myself to take The Shadow of the Wind off my shelf and start reading (I've had a library addiction for months that has prevented me from reading books I own) and the last few hours have disappeared without much thought. I love lazy weekends.....
