I love this series, a friend of mine picked it up and ended up buying the series and I borrowed them from her as she finished them. I absolutely love the characters and their relationships.

Liz Eclipse has been calling to me and I was in a bad mood last night so I decided to start it.

message 15709: by Carol (new)

Carol Lolita and The Original Laura
by Vladimir Nabokov, just ordered these from Amazon.

The Original Laura was just Published. It was the last book he wrote. It has been in the news .

message 15710: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) I really liked Lolita, though I felt I had to hide the cover on the tram while I was reading. It is a book that you can get many things out of, little nuances. Humbert Humbert is a fantastic evil dark character , who will at one time play the victim then next trying to be the hero then some times with a acceptance of what he really is. All with a wit that will bring a guilty smile to your face :).

message 15711: by Nikhaule (new)

Nikhaule | 5 comments I am currently reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. And next I want to read Because I am Funiture by Talia Chaltas. Anyone have any book recommendations?

Go to Amazon and read review for The Original Laura, you will probably like it also. It sounds very good.

Jayme (jayme-reads) Finished Marvel 1602 by Neil Gaiman and am on to Persepolis 1 The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi, which will be followed by Persepolis 2 The Story of a Return. It's a graphic novel weekend.

I was forced into reading Madame Bovary in college. That was agonizing, so be afeared.

message 15718: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ I finished Heartbeat and it did keep my interest; very different prose from what I'm used to, but a quick read.

Of course, when I told myself that I would stop reading all my YA books from the library and try and switch it up, I'm gravitated towards more vampire tales.

Now I'm onto Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. I've heard that the House of Night books are very addicting and I can see why! This is going to be good I can already sense it.

So much for not reading more YA....

message 15719: by Carol (new)

Carol I just can't get pumped up about all the vampire books. Must be my age.

message 15720: by Marti (new)

Marti (marjay) | 985 comments I moved on to High Country Fall by Margaret Maron.

message 15721: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ You know it's funny...I have never had a desire to read or watch movies for that matter that had ANYTHING to do with vampires. It just seemed tacky.

But ever since I read Twilight...my perspection changed. I would not that I have been obsessed (well maybe just with those books...) with the whole vampire gaga.

This will be my first series outside of Twilight that has to deal with vampires. I have the Sookie Stackhouse series (still in mint condition with the plastic seal covering all 8 books in the series) TBR. I think I wanted to wait til after I saw New Moon in theaters before I continued with any vampire books.

Well whoops on my part for starting another addicting vampire series. I'm not more than 50 pages into House of Night #1 and I'm already hooked.

Maureen Michelle♥ wrote: "Finished The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. What a classic! :) Kicking myself (yet again!) for waiting so long to read another great book!

Michelle, The Outsiders is one of my all-time fave books. It's one of the first books I can remember that really affected me emotionally - bawled like a baby through about the last third. :-)

message 15725: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Jeane - I came late to the Harry Potter series, too -- have only read the first three so far. Maybe I'll actually get through the rest before the last movie comes out. lol

Carol - I've never been big on vampires, either (ignored the whole Buffy craze a few years back), but last summer I read a novella by MaryJanice Davidson and was instantly hooked on her "Queen Betsy" series (starts with Undead and Unwed), then this year got hooked on the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Which brings me to my current read. Finished I Scream, You Scream A Mystery À La Mode by Wendy Lyn Watson (loved it!) and am now starting A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris.

Maureen,

I completely agree! I was crying too at the last third of it! I still can't get over my shell-shock of S.E. Hinton writing it at JUST 16 years old!

message 15728: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 220 comments Just finished The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom! Starting Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler! I am really excited to start this one! Has anyone read it? I would be interested in hearing what you thought!

message 15729: by Maicie (last edited Nov 08, 2009 08:35PM) (new)

Maicie Just finished Look Again. Way too predictable. I should probably wait until morning to write my review on GR's until I've calmed down.

Started The Boy Next Door A Novel by Irene Sabatini. I haven't heard anything about this one. Picked it up at the library because, GASP, I liked the book jacket.

That's very good of you, as waiting until one calms down is the hardest part! I like to write my reviews right away, and when I go back to look at them later, I agree with myself (phew) but sometimes realize I left a few things out.

message 15734: by Michelle♥ (last edited Nov 08, 2009 09:14PM) (new)

Michelle♥ So I needed a quick break from my vampire obsession, and I picked a book from my library pile that would be relatively short...

OMGosh! If you have NOT read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, you are missing out on the best YA novel! (It's a great book for adults too!)

I am so glad that I picked up this book! I was crying, guffawing, crying because I was laughing out loud, and I did not want it to end! Add it to your TBR piles and you will enjoy it as much as I did! GUARANTEED!

Now back to Marked....
