What are you reading?

David Sedaris IS hysterical. He's one of my favorite authors. And I'm actually going to see him speak at UCI tonight .... squeal! I'm so excited. :)

I just finished the series a couple days ago. I listened to it on audio. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

I read Julie and Julia. She has a kind of snarky sense of humor but I liked it. I haven't seen the movie yet but it's supposed to be fantastic!

Lol, you snooze, you lose, I guess. :)

i'm either going to read Rebel Angels or I Was Told There'd Be Cake next. Not sure which one though.

Starting Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs.
My first read by this author.

I'm definitely jealous. I would love to see him speak. I bought the book when it first came out, after I heard an interview with him on NPR. I'm sure I'll end up reading all his other books as well.

How did you like the audiobooks? I listened to the first two on audio this summer (I had already read the whole series). It took me a while to get used to the narrator's voice. I did like her "Jacob" voice, though.

I really enjoyed the audiobooks. I haven't read the series and my initial thought is that I wouldn't have liked them as much because of all of that angst and insecurity. Listening to it is okay but reading through it may have been too long and tedious. I could be wrong, mind you, as I haven't read the books but that's the feeling I got.
I do like how Stephanie Meyer had the characters mature throughout the books and learn to listen to each other and really get to know each other as individuals.
I thoroughly enjoyed the scene with Jacob, Edward and Bella in the tent.

Yes, I would say that's one of the best scenes in the entire series.

Well, I just finished The Luxe by Anna Godbersen, and now I'm reading Gone by Michael Grant, as well as Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.

Oh Cait, you went from one good book to another! Glad to hear you loved HFS, and hope you also love The Preservationist! I adore David Maine, and his novels!

I need to read that too soon! :D

I'm glad to hear that you loved it! It makes me want to read it as well. I was a bit hesitant when I read the summary because it's so different from her other book but if people think it's still good, I'll read it anyway :)

Wish me luck sweetie, 2nd time listening to it. But via the laptop instead of stereo.

Since it is such a heavy book, I'm doing light-reading on the side. I'm currently investing in short stories and plays since I love short stories and I need to read more plays. Right now, I'm reading I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere by Anna Gavalda which is a collection of short stories by a French author. It's a modern/contemporary novel and so far, rather enjoyable.

I love James Patterson. His writing grabs you right away which makes them quick reads.

Yes, but wasn't keen on a few of his other books he has written so far.

Seeing him last night was amazing! He read us some new stories and even went through some of his diary entries, which was by far my favorite part of the show. We got to meet him afterwards and he signed our books. *Gush* He seems like such a cool person and he's so freaking hilarious!

This is on my list to read, I've heard such amazing things about it.

I've only read the first story and it's already really affecting me, which to me is the sign of amazing literature. I'll let you know my verdict once I'm finished with it!

About time too!

Did you like Stardust Amanda? I thought the books was abit too calm but having seen the movie before reading it, it helped me seeing the lively part of the story so I liked it a lot. The story is so beautiful I Think.

Leila, you will have to give many good cmments about Mists of Avalon! I put it on my to read lsit more than five years ago and still didn't start it!

I'm horribly late as usual, and can't seem to track down the book at the moment, but he also has another book about the death of Edgar Allan Poe that's written in a similar way, if you liked The Dante Club you'll probably like it too. I enjoyed both of them, I thought he was really good.

I'm hoping to finish Utopia tomorrow and start on God's Call Girl, an autobiography by a woman who left a convent and ended up working as a prostitute. Going by the blurb and a quick flick through she seems to be pretty brutally honest, so should be interesting.

Yes, I enjoyed it Jean! But I must admit to having seen the movie first as well (I actually really enjoyed the movie and it prompted me to buy the book as 95% of the time I usually think the book is way better! And if I enjoyed the movie that much, how awesome would the book be?) and actually preferring the movie version. I think if the book had some of the added parts of the movie it would have been a lot more action packed instead of the smooth steady stream it is. :)

Ann: Will be interested to hear what you think of South of Broad. I loved it and we discussed it for our B&N book group and they loved it as well.

Hi Lelia,
I have The Mists of Avalon on my to-read shelf and have been intimidated by the length! I've heard it was a really good novel, but the length is daunting. That is a good idea to have something on the side to read-----maybe I'll try that too once I decide to read it - let us know how you are liking it.

Thanks Lori! I definitely want to read F451 as soon as I can get my hands on a copy! It's one of those we were supposed to read in school which, back then, made me automatically not want to read it. But I've been anxious to read it for a while now.
Jayme wrote: "You could try Martian Chronicles too! I love that one."
I actually DO have that one - I mooched it at the same time as Something Wicked, so it will be coming up in my TBR ... soon-ish. :)
