Thanks Lori! I definitely want to read F451 as soon as I can get my hands on a copy! It's one of those we were supposed to read in school which, back then, made me automatically not want to read it. But I've been anxious to read it for a while now.

Jayme wrote: "You could try Martian Chronicles too! I love that one."

I actually DO have that one - I mooched it at the same time as Something Wicked, so it will be coming up in my TBR ... soon-ish. :)

I read Julie and Julia. She has a kind of snarky sense of humor but I liked it. I haven't seen the movie yet but it's supposed to be fantastic!

i'm either going to read Rebel Angels or I Was Told There'd Be Cake next. Not sure which one though.

I'm definitely jealous. I would love to see him speak. I bought the book when it first came out, after I heard an interview with him on NPR. I'm sure I'll end up reading all his other books as well.

How did you like the audiobooks? I listened to the first two on audio this summer (I had already read the whole series). It took me a while to get used to the narrator's voice. I did like her "Jacob" voice, though.

I really enjoyed the audiobooks. I haven't read the series and my initial thought is that I wouldn't have liked them as much because of all of that angst and insecurity. Listening to it is okay but reading through it may have been too long and tedious. I could be wrong, mind you, as I haven't read the books but that's the feeling I got.
I do like how Stephanie Meyer had the characters mature throughout the books and learn to listen to each other and really get to know each other as individuals.
I thoroughly enjoyed the scene with Jacob, Edward and Bella in the tent.

Yes, I would say that's one of the best scenes in the entire series.

message 15423: by Leila (new)

Leila (justsortofreading) I am currently reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I'm reading it with a friend of mine as she has recommended it very much and I am interested in the Arthurian Legends. It's a very thick and heavy book though and will take some time to read. I like it so far though!

Since it is such a heavy book, I'm doing light-reading on the side. I'm currently investing in short stories and plays since I love short stories and I need to read more plays. Right now, I'm reading I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere by Anna Gavalda which is a collection of short stories by a French author. It's a modern/contemporary novel and so far, rather enjoyable.

Seeing him last night was amazing! He read us some new stories and even went through some of his diary entries, which was by far my favorite part of the show. We got to meet him afterwards and he signed our books. *Gush* He seems like such a cool person and he's so freaking hilarious!

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments Oh, and I'm now reading This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski which so far is a harrowing account of life in the concentration camps in WWII told in such a matter-of-fact, everyday way that's it heartbreaking and hard to get through.

Amanda (amandanoel) I am reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd...actually I am almost done with it...it is sooo good...I broke my rule of never watching a movie before reading the book with this one...but it was OK the book is just as good or better than the movie. :-)

I'm horribly late as usual, and can't seem to track down the book at the moment, but he also has another book about the death of Edgar Allan Poe that's written in a similar way, if you liked The Dante Club you'll probably like it too. I enjoyed both of them, I thought he was really good.

message 15444: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm hoping to finish Utopia tomorrow and start on God's Call Girl, an autobiography by a woman who left a convent and ended up working as a prostitute. Going by the blurb and a quick flick through she seems to be pretty brutally honest, so should be interesting.

Yes, I enjoyed it Jean! But I must admit to having seen the movie first as well (I actually really enjoyed the movie and it prompted me to buy the book as 95% of the time I usually think the book is way better! And if I enjoyed the movie that much, how awesome would the book be?) and actually preferring the movie version. I think if the book had some of the added parts of the movie it would have been a lot more action packed instead of the smooth steady stream it is. :)

message 15446: by Donna (last edited Oct 29, 2009 05:59AM) (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments So I was going to B&N to buy some books that I had on my list but I wasn't freeling well yesterday so I never made it over there. But since I was home early I dropped off some books due back at the library and there was one of my books I was going to purchase sitting right on the counter so I had to take it out so now I put Hummingbirds aside and now reading High on Arrival by Mackenzie Phillips.

Hi Lelia,
I have The Mists of Avalon on my to-read shelf and have been intimidated by the length! I've heard it was a really good novel, but the length is daunting. That is a good idea to have something on the side to read-----maybe I'll try that too once I decide to read it - let us know how you are liking it.
