Oh Cait, you went from one good book to another! Glad to hear you loved HFS, and hope you also love The Preservationist! I adore David Maine, and his novels!

It makes me want to read it as well. I was a bit hesitant when I read the summary because it's so different from her other book but if people think it's still good, I'll read it anyway :)

Wish me luck sweetie, 2nd time listening to it. But via the laptop instead of stereo.
I am currently reading The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I'm reading it with a friend of mine as she has recommended it very much and I am interested in the Arthurian Legends. It's a very thick and heavy book though and will take some time to read. I like it so far though! Since it is such a heavy book, I'm doing light-reading on the side. I'm currently investing in short stories and plays since I love short stories and I need to read more plays. Right now, I'm reading I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere by Anna Gavalda which is a collection of short stories by a French author. It's a modern/contemporary novel and so far, rather enjoyable.

Yes, but wasn't keen on a few of his other books he has written so far.
Laura Ashlee wrote: "Stephanie wrote: "Laura Ashlee wrote: "I just began A Compass Error A Novel by Sybille Bedford and When You Are Engulfed in Flames by [author:David Seda..."Seeing him last night was amazing! He read us some new stories and even went through some of his diary entries, which was by far my favorite part of the show. We got to meet him afterwards and he signed our books. *Gush* He seems like such a cool person and he's so freaking hilarious!
Oh, and I'm now reading This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen by Tadeusz Borowski which so far is a harrowing account of life in the concentration camps in WWII told in such a matter-of-fact, everyday way that's it heartbreaking and hard to get through.
I am reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd...actually I am almost done with it...it is sooo good...I broke my rule of never watching a movie before reading the book with this one...but it was OK the book is just as good or better than the movie. :-)

I'll let you know my verdict once I'm finished with it!

Did you like Stardust Amanda? I thought the books was abit too calm but having seen the movie before reading it, it helped me seeing the lively part of the story so I liked it a lot. The story is so beautiful I Think.

mmm right now I'm reading Wifes and daughters of Elizabeth Gaskell and Merrick by Anne Rice... ohh and I'm about to finish reading Dead untill Dark by Charlane Harris...
I'm reading Bram Stoker's Dracula and the 2nd in the Percy Jackson & Olympians series Sea of Monsters

I'm horribly late as usual, and can't seem to track down the book at the moment, but he also has another book about the death of Edgar Allan Poe that's written in a similar way, if you liked The Dante Club you'll probably like it too. I enjoyed both of them, I thought he was really good.

I'm hoping to finish Utopia tomorrow and start on God's Call Girl, an autobiography by a woman who left a convent and ended up working as a prostitute. Going by the blurb and a quick flick through she seems to be pretty brutally honest, so should be interesting.

Yes, I enjoyed it Jean! But I must admit to having seen the movie first as well (I actually really enjoyed the movie and it prompted me to buy the book as 95% of the time I usually think the book is way better! And if I enjoyed the movie that much, how awesome would the book be?) and actually preferring the movie version. I think if the book had some of the added parts of the movie it would have been a lot more action packed instead of the smooth steady stream it is. :)
So I was going to B&N to buy some books that I had on my list but I wasn't freeling well yesterday so I never made it over there. But since I was home early I dropped off some books due back at the library and there was one of my books I was going to purchase sitting right on the counter so I had to take it out so now I put Hummingbirds aside and now reading High on Arrival by Mackenzie Phillips.

I have The Mists of Avalon on my to-read shelf and have been intimidated by the length! I've heard it was a really good novel, but the length is daunting. That is a good idea to have something on the side to read-----maybe I'll try that too once I decide to read it - let us know how you are liking it.

I loved Mists of Avalon! I loved it so much I went on to read the other related books she wrote...they were definitely not as awesome. I can't wait to here what everyone thinks of it.
I finshed The Monk last nite. While bogged down in the typical writing of the time, the story itself was intriguing.
Moving on to The Priest A Gothic Romance.

I've started on Alexander McCall Smith 44 Scotland Street and I can't put it down. I love his Botswana's series but I didn't expect to love this one so much.
Julie and Julia I found whiny, and gave 2 stars, I think. I think I want to see the movie, though - the ad with Meryl Streep warbling "Bon Apetit!" had me immediately.Loved both The Martian Chronicles and South of Broad.
Right now I'm reading Grave Secrets, by Kathy Reichs. Tempe Brenan has gone down to Guatemala to help find the remains of "The Disappeared" from that country's civil war. Featuring excavating a sewage tank (ew!).

I agree. I think the book is really nice but it helped watching the movie before because it was much more energetic and lively.

"..."Jeane, it's more like Maupin's Tale of the City. It's not a mystery series more like a chronicle of the lives of people living at 44 Scotland Street. He wrote it as a daily story in the newspaper so the chapters are short and the action and plot are up beat. I like it a lot so far.
Hi, I'm new here and can see I will spend the next few days navigating the site! Ummm, is there a place to post about books we've just finished? My brain is starting to dribble from my ears, so maybe I just overlooked it.I just started Her Fearful Symmetry this morning. So far, so good.
Maicie, welcome! This is the place to talk about the books youve just finished and the one you are about to start.....
So you are in the right place!
And hooray for HFS... I loved that book! We have a thread opened for discussion on it in the "Wanna discuss this book" folder... join us there when you can....

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and reading Her Fearful Symmetry. The first few chapters are written really well. I think I'm going to like this one.
Thanks Lori! I also just finished Ironweed (must but my own copy), The Weight of Silence (okay until the end) and In a Perfect World A Novel (pretty darn good). I can't wait to get 1001 new TBR's from this site. We must all do our part to stimulate the economy!!
Finally starting Her Fearful Symmetry - so excited!! A friend of mine is reading it too. She's further along and said she is trying not to read it too fast because she doesn't want it to end. :)
Just finished High Fidelity by Nick Horby on vacation and loved it. Started Little Children by Tom Perotta now. Seems ok so far.
Gorana wrote: "I just finished The Road Home and i loved it!!Starting Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs.

I really enjoyed Just Breathe. Are you enjoying it?
