Cindy (cyndil62) | 253 comments I also just started The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. I'm only on Page 59 and already hooked though kind of scared that it is going to get sad...

Melissa (lissieb7) I just started Bram Stoker's Dracula and will be reading The Historian for Book Club in October.

I really enjoyed Fahrenheit 451 when I read it a few months ago. Couldn't put it down! A graphic novel of the book was released in August, think I may have to buy it...

message 14655: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I am finally getting around to Dead Until Dark. I also picked up a book from the library yesterday called A Girl Made of Dust by Nathalie Abi-Ezzi. Haven't heard anything about it but for some reason I was drawn to it. I can tell you this, they are two very different books.

Jayme (jayme-reads) Karen wrote: "I haven't read Outliers; you recommend it?"

I would definitely recommend Outliers. He has a very different way of looking at success that makes you think about the way the world works. I haven't read his other books, but I liked this one enough that I might try them. It's one of those non-fiction books that's written well enough that it goes by quickly, never getting too dry.

Hello Kate and Jeane.

This past spring I read two of Lisa See's books. I actually read Peony in Love A Novel first, on loan from a friend, and loved it so much. I then read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, from the library, about 4 weeks later and also loved it. I would suggest that you do not hesitate to read Peony in Love A Novel. It is equally beautiful, haunting and memorable. If I had to pick between the two, Peony comes out on top. As I said though. I loved them both!

I could not finish it...it has been on so many lists to read that I thought something was wrong with me...I have taken Zadie Smith books off my to- read list.

Thank you for the recommendation, Jennifer! I'll definitely keep an eye out for that one. It looks really good too. I love the settings of these novels.

Viki, I listened to it and the words and language that came from them was like ok, not what I would expect from religious people neither.

Finished Confessions of a Shopaholic yesterday which i enjoyed.

Have now started on Motley Crue - The Dirt which is so far interesting and just a bit gross, I think it will get both more interesting and more gross the further i get into it.

I love that book Jayme! Food for thought describes it perfectly! Have you read Blink? It's also by Malcolm Gladwell. After I've fed my fiction fix a little more, I'll bhe reading another one of his books, The Tipping Point. Have you read this one?

This is my opinion I would like to add that I have listened to the audio of this today. I am so glad its over with. Sorry to say it wasn't my cup of tea. But as it was on my list to read, its over with. Hated the language that some of them used. I also felt sorry for the characters and their faiths, as I have a best friend who is a Jehovah Witness.

I have no idea whether I feel like readin anymore of hers after listening to this.

message 14674: by Michelle♥ (new)

Michelle♥ So instead of reading The Kite Runner or A Handmaid's Tale I picked up The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I just started reading it, not very far, but it's cool. I'm captivated enough to keep reading. I want to see where this road takes them and me! :)

I have so many books to choose from I feel like I'm overwhelmed. I've had The Road on my shelf to read for awhile now and I feel like the ones I've had the longest I should start those first. I think they've been waiting patiently enough....

Janny (jannywurts) | 142 comments I am nearly done The Woman in White, though finding the social manners of the period slow going, despite the wonderful story. One thing: I'd have hated the conformity and the straight laced helplessness of being a woman living in that era!

message 14679: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading a book that my daughter thought I'd like to read. It's called "The Good Time Girls" Laela Morgan. It's a NF about the good time girls in the Klondike Gold Rush Days in the 1900's. It's an ok read but it doesn't really give any depth to the people it talks about, they are just short little stories. I'll probably finish it, but it's a little dry.

Hi Andy, Yeah for the first post!!!
I read that book ages ago, I went on an MTV Pocketbook kick and scoffed those suckers down. This was my first of that publishers stockpile. I thought it was very interesting. I think it was the first book I had read up to that point that was written in letter communication....

message 14692: by Avigail (new)

Avigail (avigailr) Well I finished The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop by Lewis Buzbee & Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. I have 120 pages to go in The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards and I have to continue reading The Name of the Rose Including Postscript by Umberto Eco in greek. To tell the truth I don't know what I will read next, but I will let you know when I' ll find out.

Enjoy your reading

Mo (morganalefay3) I'm reading a few books at the moment. I just finished re-reading First Rider's Call by Kristin Britain. I am a huge fantasy fan, and I forgot how much I loved that book! Now I'm reading 2 books, Apocalipstick, another re-read for me and Olive Kitteridge. I got it for Christmas last year and am just not getting around to it. It's good so far!

JSou I'm still reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I was wanting to finish it over the weekend, but couldn't pull myself away from the Wii (Damn you, Beatles Rock Band!!!)

I'm hoping to finish tonight, it really is fantastic. I'm enjoying it as much and maybe even a little more than Kafka on the Shore. We'll see how it ends though. Up next is On the Beach by Nevil Shute.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Re-read of Midsummer Night's Dream in progress, to be followed by Romeo and Juliet. (I'm taking a course on Shakespeare.)

Oooh lucky you!

I finished The Book Of Lost Things which was really good and kinda unexpected. Almost done now with Catching Fire which is a quick read and fun but i'm still not sure Suzanne Collins is the greatest writer ever. I can't decide if sometimes she's playing off the artificiality of the games or just quickly getting herself out of a corner with no where else to go.
