I can't read the book yet but hope to see the movie this week...if they still show it!

message 13952: by Nikki (new)

Nikki | 32 comments I am new to this site and this group. I just have to say this could be a bad thing because now my "to read" list is growing by the minute. That makes me want to neglect my regular life duties, and that is not a good thing. This thread is a fun one, though. I am going to have to spend more time in it later to review what you all have said about what you are reading.

I am now reading Rebel Angels by Libba Bray. It's a fun, easy read. I work as a crossing guard, so this is a great book because I can read it while I'm waiting for kids to come.

Hi Nikki, oh yea.... you will definitely add to your to read list!! Thats a given here :)

message 13956: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I just finished Jinx by Jennifer Estep. It was entertaining. It's the 3rd of a series, but the 1st was definitely the best. It's about a world where there really are superheroes and ubervillians.

I LOVE Shantaram! One of my all-time faves. That is awful about your copy though.

I just started reading Freakonomics. Been wanting to read this for awhile.

message 13958: by Mir (new)

Mir Lisa, I absolutely agree that Karma Girl was Estep's best. I loved that one and was pretty disappointed in the sequels.

Tks. Anyone want to buy 3 kids and be my housekeeper so I can just read? But I guess I have to keep the jobs so I can buy books. My kids book orders are a dangerous thing for me. I tend to buy stuff I might like to read as well.

Ann, how did you like "The Gravedigger's Daughter"? I've had it on my TBR shelf forever. Keep finding
something else I absolutely must read now, so it
gets shoved to the back. Joyce Carol Oates has been
around for awhile. Don't know how many books she
has before this one.

I know it is a great read and even though it is quite a large book it flies by because it is so goo. I have found more pages missing too. 8 in total thus far!

Shary (sharyfg) | 104 comments Just finished Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris. Good book. I will definitely continue with the rest of the series. Next up: The Graveyard Book.

I loved A Simple Plan!! Best book I've read in awhile. It was a good movie too - the author wrote the screenplay.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am halfway through The Graveyard Book. It is interesting, not sure what my thoughts are yet.

message 13970: by JSou (new)

JSou I started Odd Thomas the other day. I've never read any Dean Koontz before, but so far, I'm really liking this one.

Love the Maisie Dobbs series. They manage to be low key and immersing at the same time. The sense of period is brilliant.

Can I get a whoot whoot for old Oddie??? I am happy to hear you like it! I was my first Koontz novel too. So far, nothing else Ive read from him comes close to the power of Odd!

message 13974: by Carol (new)

Carol Just finished Murder On K Street -Margaret Truman and The fat man book -Reginald Hill .It wasn't that great. Usually like british authors but not this one.Soooooooooooo now I have to chose a new one to start on. I haven't decided as yet.

message 13975: by Petra (new)

Petra I'm still continuing with Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell as my "at home" book. It's too heavy to lug back and forth to work.
I'm also reading Fallen, which is a fleshing out of the story of Cain & Abel. I'm really enjoying it.
And, finally, I'm listening to Eclipse on audio while commuting. Not the best of writing but entertaining, none the less.

Petra... You are reading Maine!! Awesome! I loved Fallen.. It was such a creative way to tell the story of Cain and Able, reverse chronology. So you knew how it ended before it ever started, and couldnt put it down until you've read every last page!

I ♥ Maine

message 13977: by Emily (new)

Emily I'm about halfway through The Optimist's Daughter A Novel by Eudora Welty, it is really drawing me in even through I have only been reading it for about an hour.

Carol Cold Mountain-Charles Frazier and Founding Mothers -Cokie Roberts. Moby Dick defeated me for this year. I will have to read it as I find the time. too many other books to read without having to torture myself.

message 13982: by Maureen (new)

Maureen I finished The Glass Castle A Memoir last night. Although I found the writing compelling, I don't think I'm nearly as enthusiastic about it as a lot of other people seem to be. I found myself so infuriated with the author's parents that I had to put it aside at times.

I've read some reviews which indicated they thought the author was whining about her life. I must say that I felt the exact opposite - I got the impression that she was being too easy on her parents. I never got the sense that her parents (esp. her selfish, narcissistic mother) ever even apologized for doing everything in their power to ruin their children's lives, and I got the impression that the author was somehow okay with that. Perhaps she really had come to terms with everything and moved on, but I just couldn't.

So, now back to Lady Audley's Secret.

Bridgit | 475 comments Just finished The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It was a cute little YA book that I read in about 2 hours during commercials.

Started Trail of Crumbs Hunger, Love, and the Search for Home last night. So far I am really enjoying it. It has a few gourmet recipes mixed in that I am itching to try.

message 13991: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (mamallama) | 130 comments I am reading The Daily Coyote Story of Love, Survival, and Trust In the Wilds of Wyoming and liking it so far. I thought the writer was some sort of naturalist or something. The fact that she isn't makes the book interesting. Sort of like city girl meets country coyote.

I finally finished The Three Musketeers. Not as awesome as The Count, but really good. Dumas can certainly weave a good revenge story, cant he?

Now I am moving on to A Canticle for Leibowitz.

message 13993: by Michelle♥ (last edited Sep 03, 2009 10:13AM) (new)

Michelle♥ I just finished Night by Elie Wiesel. It was a good story. Of course it was disheartening to read everything that had happened, but so far I am captivated by the Holocaust. I am now reading Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay which is very enticing. Not very far into it, but so far it's good! :)

message 13999: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'm just getting going in "Yes, My Darling Daughter" Margaret Leroy. It's a very different type book for me although it has the feel of a gothic tale so far. I'm anxious to have time to really get into this story.
