Nichola, I read Cloud Atlas a couple months ago, and I can't tell you how much I loved, loved, loved this book!!!! It was like nothing I've read before. I'll admit it took me a bit to get the feel of it, but it was SO worth it. Definately one of my favorite books!

Grace, I second The Kitchen God's Wife. I read it many years ago and loved it. Amy Tan is an awesome writer.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I'm currently reading Driving with Dead People and so far I'm liking it. The main character is really morbid, which is entertaining. And so far it doesn't have the "woe is me" vibe that some memoirs carry.

So you don't have to read Shadow of the Wind before Angel's Game? Angel's Game came in for me at the library today but I have not read SotW yet.

message 12307: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I can't wait to sink my teeth into "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!" I am also reading "Black" and just finished "City of Thieves" It started slow - but in the end, I liked it.

I am reading "The Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit" and "Hannibal Rising" ... Hannibal has been on my shelf since Christmas, the year it came out. I had heard harsh things about the film and so I never picked up the book.

message 12309: by Dree (new)

Dree I just got China Miéville's The City and the City from my library queue yesterday. I was worried this would be way too intellectual (or something) for me. But, I am almost 50 pages in and it is soooooo good. "Holy crap!" good.

Stephanie, Allison and Linda - I just got this book on Tuesday but since I just finished a big classic, I've opted to read Shanghai Girls by Lisa See first. But all this talk of Angel's Game - ! I read and loved Shadow of the Wind. Isn't the cover of Angel's Game clever? I love it.

Another suggestion if you are loving the Kite Runner, is his other novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns. It was wonderful, and written on women's relationships.

Tracy (mamallama) | 130 comments I am on to a re-read of Book 5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I may need to speed read through this one to get to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince before the movie. I have 2 weeks to do both! I am hoping to make a dent over the long holiday weekend.

Excellent read. Do yourself a favor and don't look it up online until you're done; otherwise you'll spoil your book. Phillipa Gregory does an excellent job of researching her books! I like that one as well as The Boleyn Inheritance, The Virgin's Lover and The Queen's Fool. I was into that genre until the whole vampire genre came along.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I started Gone With The Wind last night.

I'm reading my grandmother's copy - from 1936, with "Over 20 Million copies in print! Bestseller of our century!" on the dustjacket.

Come to think of it, it probably was "the bestseller of the century"!

Kristin (kg05) | 310 comments I finished the Glass Castle and it's def now in my top list of favorite books ever.

I'm reading "The Five People you Meet in Heaven" now.. im almost done with it already, i picked it since it was going to be a quick short read and so far it's been pretty enjoyable, better than I had actually expected.

I'll be going camping this weekend and intend on doing a lot of reading, id like to get at least two books done which isnt even putting a dent in them but it gives me time away from the computer so no distractions! I have no idea what to take with me though,i wanna take two or three books with me.

message 12328: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kg05) | 310 comments Just finished "Five People you meet in heaven". I thought the ending was just wonderful. I cried a little. not what i was expecting at the end but really good. I wanna get the movie now to see if it follows the book and does it any justice.

Now I have no idea what to pick up next

Shona (anovelobsession) I started reading two books - only something I do when one is a non-fiction book. Born to Run by Christopher McDougall and the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Usually I have no problem switching between two books, but I can't put down Born to Run! I didn't expect to like it so much, but I've decided to finish it first, before I start on the other one.

Diane, My habit is to trade books after I have lent them out to my friends. This one is a keeper no matter what. Wouldn't it be great to have CRZ's autograph inside? It also would have been great if they had made the inside paper look like it had been in the Cemetery of Forgotten Books.

Lianne (eclecticreading) I recently finished Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford so I'm now on to Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice. I've heard good things about the Farseer trilogy so I figured it's about time that I read it =)

Erin (erinlf) | 15 comments I can't wait to read The Angel's Game. Ruiz Zafon's book The Shadow of the Wind was one of the most enjoyable books I read last year and I've been anticipating The Angel's Game ever since.

I'm currently reading Travel as a Political Act by Rick Steves. It's very compelling. I think everyone who travels should read this book, and maybe people who don't travel should read it even more. Definitely recommended.

Linda, I didn't post it here, but my copy of Angel's Game IS signed : ) CRZ lives in the LA area, and he went to our local indie mystery bookstore and signed a bunch and I got one! It wasn't an "official" signing he just dropped in, but I was thrilled to get a copy. I sure wished I could have met him though!

message 12346: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) No, but its a book I'd like to read.

I'm just finishing R.K. Narayan's The Dark Room (and loving it), and then I've got another Narayan, The English Teacher to read.

I've also got Maiden by Cynthia Buchanan to read. Not sure about it, has anyone read it?

JG (Introverted Reader) I went to pick up The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo from my library today, but they had decided to close TWO days for the fourth. How dare they? :-)

I finished The Last Wife of Henry VIII A Novel. It was okay. It just didn't feel in-depth enough for me. And, based on other reviews, it's not very historically accurate.

Now I'm reading Captain Corelli's Mandolin and slowly working on Good Poems for Hard Times.

message 12350: by Allison (new)

Allison I'm plugging away through White Nights.
I read the prequel, Raven Black a few months ago, and although it was okay, it was so slow. White Nights is as well, so perhaps it is just Cleeves' writing style...
The premise of both mysteries was really good, and the characters are enjoyable- it just is not a page turner. I don't feel like anything exciting ever happens, because even if it does, Cleeves doesn't build it up, in fact, she really downplays everything. A very non-chalant read, and one that's very hard to pick back up.
