What are you reading?

Right now I'm reading The Joy Luck Club and absolutely lovi..."
Grace, I second The Kitchen God's Wife. I read it many years ago and loved it. Amy Tan is an awesome writer.

Absolutely, and it just goes on getting better and better. Pull down the shades, lower the lights, turn off your cell, get in your most comfortable chair and have the time of your life with this one. Enjoy!

So you don't have to read Shadow of the Wind before Angel's Game? Angel's Game came in for me at the library today but I have not read SotW yet.

I am reading "The Secrets of the Bulletproof Spirit" and "Hannibal Rising" ... Hannibal has been on my shelf since Christmas, the year it came out. I had heard harsh things about the film and so I never picked up the book.

No, they are completely unrelated stories. You're in for a treat with this author!

Stephanie, Allison and Linda - I just got this book on Tuesday but since I just finished a big classic, I've opted to read Shanghai Girls by Lisa See first. But all this talk of Angel's Game - ! I read and loved Shadow of the Wind. Isn't the cover of Angel's Game clever? I love it.

This is one of favorite reads. Glad that you are enjoying it too.

For all you Connelly fans, he has a new one coming out in October, and it's another Harry Bosch.

Me too! Finished The Book Thief last night, one of my new favorites! ..."
Another suggestion if you are loving the Kite Runner, is his other novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns. It was wonderful, and written on women's relationships.

Excellent read. Do yourself a favor and don't look it up online until you're done; otherwise you'll spoil your book. Phillipa Gregory does an excellent job of researching her books! I like that one as well as The Boleyn Inheritance, The Virgin's Lover and The Queen's Fool. I was into that genre until the whole vampire genre came along.

I'm reading my grandmother's copy - from 1936, with "Over 20 Million copies in print! Bestseller of our century!" on the dustjacket.
Come to think of it, it probably was "the bestseller of the century"!

That is very cool that you are reading your grandmother's copy !

Agreed - I loved The Other Boleyn Girl, and the Queen's Fool. In my to be read pile is the Boleyn Inheritance and the Virgin's Lover. I think Gregory did an excellent job with this series.

I'm reading "The Five People you Meet in Heaven" now.. im almost done with it already, i picked it since it was going to be a quick short read and so far it's been pretty enjoyable, better than I had actually expected.
I'll be going camping this weekend and intend on doing a lot of reading, id like to get at least two books done which isnt even putting a dent in them but it gives me time away from the computer so no distractions! I have no idea what to take with me though,i wanna take two or three books with me.

Now I have no idea what to pick up next

Glad you like it - I also enjoyed it.

I don't know how others will weigh in on this, but my feeling is it's up to you. I don't think Angel's Game ruins it for Shadow or the other way around. They are both riveting.

Diane, My habit is to trade books after I have lent them out to my friends. This one is a keeper no matter what. Wouldn't it be great to have CRZ's autograph inside? It also would have been great if they had made the inside paper look like it had been in the Cemetery of Forgotten Books.

I'm currently reading Travel as a Political Act by Rick Steves. It's very compelling. I think everyone who travels should read this book, and maybe people who don't travel should read it even more. Definitely recommended.

Aww, my copy didn't have 'Mr. Harrison's Confessions' or 'My Lady Ludlow' =( but nonetheless I enjoyed it, it was a light and fun read =)

Body of Evidence was pretty good.
Now onto the Secret History by Donna Tartt.
Jenna, be sure to let me know what you think of the Secret History. I have this one on my bookshelf!

Linda, I didn't post it here, but my copy of Angel's Game IS signed : ) CRZ lives in the LA area, and he went to our local indie mystery bookstore and signed a bunch and I got one! It wasn't an "official" signing he just dropped in, but I was thrilled to get a copy. I sure wished I could have met him though!

Once I read it, I will join in. Have it, just haven't started it.

I'm just finishing R.K. Narayan's The Dark Room (and loving it), and then I've got another Narayan, The English Teacher to read.
I've also got Maiden by Cynthia Buchanan to read. Not sure about it, has anyone read it?

I finished The Last Wife of Henry VIII A Novel. It was okay. It just didn't feel in-depth enough for me. And, based on other reviews, it's not very historically accurate.
Now I'm reading Captain Corelli's Mandolin and slowly working on Good Poems for Hard Times.

Diane, This is me stamping my feet because I am sooooooooo jealous.

I read the prequel, Raven Black a few months ago, and although it was okay, it was so slow. White Nights is as well, so perhaps it is just Cleeves' writing style...
The premise of both mysteries was really good, and the characters are enjoyable- it just is not a page turner. I don't feel like anything exciting ever happens, because even if it does, Cleeves doesn't build it up, in fact, she really downplays everything. A very non-chalant read, and one that's very hard to pick back up.

Nichola, I read Cloud Atlas a couple months ago, and I can't tell you how much I loved, loved, loved this book!!!! It was like nothing I've read before. I'll admit it took me a bit to get the feel of it, but it was SO worth it. Definately one of my favorite books!
