What are you reading?

I started Saturday by Ian McEwan. So far I am really enjoying this book.

I finished The Woods by Harlan Coben. It was solid, but the whole plot just felt familiar from his other books.
Now I'm starting one of my dad's old westerns--War Cry.

In the meantime I keep on reading Duma Key, it's about 700 pages and I'm almost in the middle of it :P

Hi Ariel - I saw the movie, The Reader, and now want to read the book. I loved the movie -- did you like the book?

Justine, I really liked this book. Hope you do to.

Jamie: I think you will love Water For Elephants. It is such a wonderful book.

Yvonne: I agree with you. I was so totally blown away that I went on line to make certain it was true. Never saw that one coming.

Fiona, out of curiosity, do you know why A Gathering Light is called A Northern Light in the states? I'm just not sure why it would have been changed. I know Harry Potter was modified because they were worried that the slang wouldn't make sense to Americans (when I first got to the UK, I spent at least the first week thinking, "Why does everyone keep asking me if I'm all right?").
Justine, I'd be curious to hear your opinion of The Blind Assassain! I really enjoyed A Handmaid's Tale and want to read lots more Atoowd (including The Blind Assassain).

Hi Diane!
Although I have read and watched many Holocaust-related stories I really liked this book, found the plot very interesting and written in a simple and direct way; I liked how characters' psychology was described through the entire text and how it makes you reflect after having finished it.
Now I want to see the movie, possibly during next weekend :)
Best regards!

I read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan last summer. I throughly enjoyed it. Yesterday at Barnes and Nobles, I spotted Shanghi Girls. Didn't buy it at the time. Maybe at a later time. "
Yvonne, I read Snow Flower too and loved it. I saw Shanghi Girls and am very interested in reading it. The premise sounds really interesting, and I like Lisa See's writing. I haven't picked it up yet either.

Hi Elhara. My live book club selected this book to read over the summer. I won't be starting it until August, and it's my first Wally Lamb book. I hope I'll like it, as I've been curious about his books.

Yvonne: I agree with you. I was so..."
Hi Linda and Yvonne. Wasn't this a great read? I had no idea about the story at all, until I googled Mameh Cheney BEFORE I finished the book....needless to say, it blew the ending for me, but I loved it nonetheless.
I recently bought The Women, by T.C. Boyle which is about the 4 prominent women in FLW's life.

Justine, I really liked this book. Hope you do to. "
Great read. Read it with my live book club a few years back.

Please post back to me if you see the movie. I hope that after reading the book, the movie will not disappoint.

Sure, I will! :)

I thought of that as welll--people rarely expect me to realize that Philip Pullman's book have different titles over here, but I do! Also, I have no idea what causes the cover images to be different.

Hi Sharon,
This thread is actually for sharing what you're currently reading. All your post does is allude to the book you've written, so this is the wrong thread. Care to share what book you're reading?

Ugh! THis book was pure torture for me! Good luck ladies!

i think i'm going to start A Conspiracy of Paper next, to ease in to my non-fiction pick from the library.

Starting The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks

I'm also reading The Woman In White and loving it. I'm a big fan of Victorian novels.
I've also started Ella Minnow Pea A Novel in Letters.

I'm also doing "Middlemarch" on MP3. That will take a while.

I'm also listening to Kristen Chenoweth's book on audio. Love her!!
Finally, I've decided to read the Narnia Chronicles as my own personal summer challenge. (Never got around to reading these as a kid, for some reason.) I'm more than half-way through The Magician's Nephew (I've decided to read the books in the order that Lewis preferred).
And yay to those reading The Blind Assassin! I loved this book, and hope you all do, too. :-)

I have also read the Narnia Chronicles. I enjoyed them. Enchanting......I will reread them one of these days. What is the order that Lewis preferred?

Maureen, I read all of The Chronicles of Narnia a few summers ago. I had read three of the books but decided I needed to read them all in order.
Finished Disgrace... not quite sure what I think about it. The story starts with a professor getting chucked out of his job for sleeping with a student and continues with self-discovery, the meaning of family, etc. But the "original sin" seemed far less important and interesting than a lot of other sins that were dealt with throughout the book. Have to think about it some more.
Finishing up some re-reads and odds and ends and then will start Portrait of a Lady, which finally turned up. (I was desperately looking for a black book spine... my copy is yellow... oops!)

Believe me Fiona it gets much better, the begining isn't the best but it does become much more iteresting and suprising.

The third Dexter definitely had a different feel to it, but I enjoyed it still the same. I have to get my hands on the 4th book one of these days.....
