GracieKat | 864 comments I gave up on Dream Date. That's the second one by Sinclair Smith that didn't grab my interest. It's kind of sad to see how few of my YA books are holding up after all of these years. I'm starting on my R.L. Stine books.

message 10953: by [deleted user] (new)

The next book I'm reading (well actually two at one time) is the book called The Divide by Nicholas Sparks, and Just after Sunset by Stephen king.

message 10958: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm almost through with The Magician by Michael Scott and then I'll probably move to The Book Thief or The Hunger Games afterwards.

message 10959: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Weber (nmesic) | 35 comments American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld historical novel loosely based on the life of Laura Bush. Excellent so far, I've read about 125 pages

message 10960: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Can't make up my mind whether to start Michelle Cliff's The Store of a Million Items or Vernon God Little.

I have two long plane flights tomorrow - 24 hours travelling so I'll probably get through them both (unless there are any good films on).

message 10961: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Finished Blood Test - Jonathan Kellerman. Will read Three Men in a Boat - Jerome K Jerome

GracieKat | 864 comments I can't get into the R.L. Stine's, oh, well. They made me happy while I was young! :) I guess they'll be on my swap/mooch list soon.

I started Season of the Witch by Christopher Knight. I'm only like two pages into it because when I started my eyelids were ready to drop. Will read a bit more tonight.

I waited until after I had finished the book- simply because I didn't know it was there! I finished this book in one sitting, and all I wanted to do was read it straight through- I loved it so much!

That one looks really good, I'd be interested to hear what you think of it!
I've just finished The Bloody Chamber and REALLY enjoyed it...think this one may be a 5 star read!

message 10971: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I started Vernon God Little an hour ago. If it doesn't work for me I've got Women in the City of the Dead (a book about poor women living in a cemetery in Cairo).

\I enjoyed both of those. I haven't had a chance to read any of his others yet - but those two were fun.

message 10973: by Serena (new)

Serena I'm reading The Help- and so far I'm enjoying it (only about 75 pages in so far). If you don't mind dialect (which I enjoy) - it seems a quick read and has made me laugh out loud already.

JG (Introverted Reader) Bettie (Goodreads Reader!) wrote: "JG - I thought the Sansom books were terrific and for me the relative weakest link in the four was Dark Fire (#2). Revelation was sublime IMHO"

I borrowed the first three from a co-worker who hates to buy hardcovers. I've been the devil in his ear, pushing him to buy Revelation, hoping I'll get it next!

I finished Lisey's Story. I enjoyed it, in fact a lot more than Duma Key, his newest (?) novel.

Now I'm starting A Prayer for Owen Meany.

Glad to know someone else is having a hard time with it, though.

I don't have one (they wont send me one here in Europe), although I would like one. (Actually I think the sony reader would be better for me, but they wont send me one of those either...) There are threads somewhere about the kindle and the sony reader. I'll see if I can find them.

EDIT: There was a discussion about Kindle vs. Sony REader, but I can't find it. Here are the two I did find.

Michael (mikeyrollinsyahoocom) | 1 comments I always read two at a time; when you get a bit tired and switch books it's like an energy boost, but it's best if they're quite different. At the moment, it's LET THE RIGHT ONE IN and THE CARNIVAL MASTER.

Liz About to start A Doll's House by Ibsen.

message 10988: by JuliAnna (new)

JuliAnna | 85 comments I recently finished Sanderson's Mistborn, which was definitely an engaging fantasy novel. I'm currently reading March Violets, the first volume of Philip Kerr's Berlin Noir series. It's well-written, hard-boiled detective fiction set in 1930's Germany. Good so far.

ooh I cannot tip you the wink on Stella Adler on Ibsen, Strindberg, and Chekhov strongly enough. Ibsen - the first modern day feminist.

Emily Deborah wrote: "Does anyone own a Kindle? Just wondering if you read most of these books in hardback, paperback or e-books? I', trying to decide about the newest Kindle (3)"

I have had my Kindle 2 for a little over two months and I love it. I've already read 16 books - just because it is so easy and a lot of the classics that I've wanted to read are free. (Just finished Treasure Island and King Solomon's Mines). I highly recommend it!

For the thread, I am currently reading "The People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks. (Just came out on the Kindle!)

message 10992: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 253 comments I just started Antarctic Navigation last night. From the reviews I read on here, seems to be a popular, great read. One review stated that it was "one of the monumental reading experiences of her life". Can't get any better than that! :)

message 10993: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Just started The Cradle by Patrick Sommerville last night, it should be a quick read then I can start I Capture The Castle.

Bridget | 41 comments I started The Shipping News today. I'm about 65 pages into it, and a lot happens in those first pages, yet the story seems slow. I'm not loving it yet, but I do see potential.

Serena Catherine wrote: "Finally finished The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox and really enjoyed it. Once I finally got a chance to read, it only took about 3 hours. "

Catherine,

I really enjoyed The Vanishing Act too. My daughter went to school in a town with an old abandoned asylum - so the book made me think about the poor people who were inmates there.

Lianne (eclecticreading) I went back to continuing Joseph Heller's Catch-22 (interesting cast of characters although I do find myself confused at times with what's going on). I've also started re-reading Douglas Coupland's Eleanor Rigby =)
