I thought Freakonomics was so interesting. And i LOVED The Book Thief.

message 10452: by Lavinia (new)

Lavinia I just started the Legend of Colton H. Bryant, by Alexandra Fuller, who wrote Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight. It's just beautiful. Her same writing style that takes no prisoners, but not as much of a wild romp--quiet and steady and I'm in love with the characters from page two. I'm loving it.

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments I am now reading Water For Elephants. So far so good, but I am only on page 42.

Kristen Harvey After trying two books and not getting into them - I finally started Independence Hall which is pretty good starting out.

I saw her on CSPAN talking about this book (rather more so Colton and the oil business). It was a pretty good discussion. It occurs in Yellowstone right?

I am reading My Sister's Keep right now... I am only page 34 or something like that... I am liking it so far.

message 10459: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I put down True To Form by Elizabeth Berg because I wasn't in the mood for it (plus it's a library book and the books that I actually do own were all, but saying "read me, read me"). So, I picked up Lucky by Alice Sebold. It's a re-read for me and right now I need a re-read since I feel a reading slump coming on (too much going on with work, school, and guitar lessons), plus it was so awesome the first time I read it.

message 10460: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I had to stop reading The Woman In Black - Susan Hill because I am going to see Jodi Picoult on 2nd May and I haven't read anything by her since I saw her last year. So I am reading Plain Truth - Jodi Picoult

message 10461: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 22, 2009 03:19AM) (new)

Had to give up on Revolutionary Road. It totally bored me, and while I think that was the point I didn't see that I had to carry it all the way through to the end.

LITSandTBRITL (life is too short and TBR is too long!!)

I am now reading a MONSTER - Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra. A million pages at least! Should keep me out of trouble for a while ; )

message 10462: by Kim (last edited Apr 22, 2009 03:16AM) (new)

Kim | 70 comments I finished The Hunger Games and it was excellent. One part did make me cry, but no spoilers. The author did a great job of making you feel like you were there with the characters.

I have almost finished The Last American Man a non-fiction book by Elizabeth Gilbert about Eustice Conway. Can you say narcissist??? He is a complete and utter narcissist but the book was very interesting.

I am now reading a Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon. It is a bit dull but I can hang in there because I do feel sympathetic to the main characters.

message 10463: by Bettie (new)

Bettie After finishing The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher Or the Murder at Road Hill Houseand The Irresistible Inheritance Of Wilberforce A Novel in Four Vintages I have another two on the go at the moment: Italian Shoes and The Night Watch.

I have hit a patch of good reading - long may it last!

I´m reading To Kill a Mockingbird and wondering why I didn´t do it earlier. I took it at the library 4 weeks ago and just renovated (sp?) till now. It´s so cute! And the historical side is very interesting to read.

message 10468: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) I finished Breaking Dawn!! Yay!

I have moved onto a much faster read in Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich. I am also starting The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell as a side read.

message 10470: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) | 604 comments I recently finished My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler - I love it when a book makes me laugh out loud.

I should finish Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince today. I'm also reading Pride and Prejudice and enjoying it very much. I've only seen the movie version with Keira Knightly, but I loved the guy who played Mr. Darcy and it's nice being able to picture him while reading the book.

I've made it a goal to at least read 20 pages a day of In the Shadow of the Dreamchild: A New Understanding of Lewis Carroll. So far it reads like a text book, but I'm hoping it will pick up once all of the introductory information is out of the way.

Have you read, "Are you there Vodka? It's Me Chelsea"? That is her 2nd set of stories, also very funny..

Now I'm reading Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. It's been a very long time since I've read anything by him. But I've heard that this is good.

Joseph (jazzman) I'm re- reading Love Songs in Minor Keys which made its debut last night in Charlotte and is now on Amazon.com etc. I'd like to respectfully ask our members who know and respect me for the number and quality of comments I have made since joining, to briefly look at the review on my author page.(Cavano) Sure it's my new book and I wrote the review, BUT it ONLY discusses what is IN the book and what two VERY famous critics have written on the books jacket.
We writer's have to sometimes advertise our books. If you care about Goodreads Authors please consider taking a minute or less.

Yeah - The Almost Moon was VERY distubring. I was nauseous through the whole first third or so. I know a lot of people gave up on it. I finished it, and honestly, you're not missing much if you decide to drop it. I do like the way Alice Sebold writes and I got more into it in the later parts of the book, but it was hard to stomach.

This book is exquisitely well written, but so bleak! Except for one good laugh, can anyone tell me if it picks up by the ending?

message 10496: by El (new)

El I finally read The Road and rather surprisingly enjoyed it, despite the hoopla surrounding it.

And today I decided to take a break on the post-apocalyptic literature I have been reading and started The Golem by Gustav Meyrink.
