What are you reading?
Couldn't get into Confessions of a Fallen Angel - Ronan O'Brien (ML). So I am gonna try and read The Colour of Heaven - James Runcie (ML).
Which book Lori? If you mean Confessions of a Fallen Angel - Ronan O'Brien thats cos I had started to read it already and couldn't get my head around the book. It was a Mobile Library from a booksite I belong to.
Just started Blaggard's Moon by George Bryan Polivka. Hoping it's as good as the Trophy Chase trilogy. It's set in the same world.
Just finished Anathem by Neal Stephenson. A long read, but worth it. Stephenson has always surprised me. Tried starting A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. But after a couple of chapters, it didn't seem to grab me.
So I think I'm going to read Children of God by Mary Doria Russell.
Finally started I Capture the Castle and will probably be reading The Amaranth Enchantment tomorrow at work.
I just finished [Book: The Book of Lost Things], I found it fascinating. I am now reading [Book: Shadow of the Wind] and I still have [Book: I am the Messenger] from the library, but I am not as anxious to pick it up.
I'm re-reading The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares for the umpteenth time. I'm just not in the mood to pick up something new right now. I think I'm in a bit of a rut.
Mary wrote: "I finished The Reader a few days ago. It is a quick read - beautifully written and translated. It raises very interesting questions regarding the power of truth and love as well as the guilt of pos.Mary, I felt the same way about this controversial book. I thought it was well done and does make you stop and think.
i finally finished jonathon strange and mr. norrell. finally. i'm glad that i finished, but like many people, by the time i got to the end, i was just glad to be done, regardless of the story. however, i did enjoy it, but think i would have finished it faster if it hadn't started off so slow.i'm now reading the life and many deaths of harry houdini, and thinking of starting the amber spyglass.
This is the unfinished book I read about in The book of lost books on which a book is now based: Critically acclaimed author Matthew Pearl reopens one of literary history’s greatest mysteries in his most enthralling novel yet, The Last Dickens—a story centered around the lost ending of Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel and the perilous quest to uncover his final mystery. It sounds good!!!
Will finish Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen today. :)After that I'll start in Seven Up by Janet Evanovich.
Emily wrote: "Jackie wrote: "Oh I just read Two for the Dough this past weekend! I liked it better than the first. How are you enjoying it so far?"The Stephanie Plum series gets better with each new book. ..."
If you like reading Evanovich, you'll love listening to her books. The reader is outstanding. She really has a way with making the characters come alive. It is everything I can do to not laugh out loud when I am out in public and listening to one of her books.
I've been reading Marina Lewycka's A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian for the past two days and it's rather amusing. =)
Just started Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet A Novel by Jamie Ford. Not far into it, but I like the style and is definitely holding my interest.
I just finished reading The Ski Mask Way Based on a True Story, which is written by a young man that works with me. It is "ganster lit" and so different from anything I have ever read. But very interesting. It took me into a world that I know very little about, and I read it in one day.
I am now moving on to The Savage Detectives A Novel.
I am now moving on to The Savage Detectives A Novel.
Right now I'm reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. The thing is that I'm struggling actually because for some reason it's not grabbing my attention like The Davinci Code did. I don't know what it is about this book but for some reason I'm having a hard time getting through it. My husband loved this book though and he says that since the movie is coming out that I should finish it so that I have some idea of what's going on in the film. I'm trying to keep an open mind but honestly I can't wait until this book is done.
Over Easter weekend I finished The Luxe (light fun read), The Butterfly Garden (good book if you like memoirs and true crime) and started Hunted by the Casts... also started I Capture the Castle.
Reading Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven, by Susan Jane Gilman, which I 'll be reviewing on http://www.bookbirddog.blogspot.comAm about half way through.
I just finished The Hundred Secret Senses and now I've started on two books. Patricia Cornwell's Jack the Ripper (I couldn't get into it before but I'm determined to read it before I get rid of it if only to reinforce why it should go), and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Snow Flower isn't too bad so far.
Lori wrote: "I am now moving on to The Savage Detectives A Novel."Lori, I haven't read that one yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Did you read 2666? That's what got me hooked on Bolano; my boyfriend bought Detectives for me for Christmas, but I just haven't had a chance to sit down with it yet. I look forward to seeing what you think of it!
I'm just finishing up A Child Across the Sky by Jonathan Carroll and might try to sit down again with The Merchant of Venice (which I started days ago and then immediately put on a back burner).
I just finished Jane Green's Swapping lives. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Anyone else who has read it?
Just started "The Glassblower of Murano" by Marina Fiorato. I actually won in on here, the author giveaways, I was shocked because I never win anything! Seems good so far, 30 or so pages in.
I'm reading The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I'm finding it a little hard to get into but its getting better...
Got two new books for Easter, and I just finished The Immortal Hunter by Lynsay Sands. Will probably read the other one, Casual Hex, before getting back to spring challenge reading. The two new ones will work for a PNR challenge in April. Leora - I won Prada and Prejudice on here, which I would nominate for a YA read but it isn't published yet, and I really enjoyed it. I was so surprised, since like you, I rarely win anything! I keep applying to the giveaways though, and have hopes of someday winning again!
"April is the cruellest month" -- I'm determined to finally read The Waste Land. For fun, I'm reading Case Histories by Kate Atkinson which is starting to freak me out a bit.
Nancy wrote: ""April is the cruellest month" -- I'm determined to finally read The Waste Land. Good luck, if you've never read any of his poetry before, I would say, read The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, it's a nice T.S. Eliot warmup before diving into The Waste Land!
I am currently reading seven books...(1) HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban
(2) Pride & Prejudice & Zombies
(3) Favorite Wife
(4) Lock & Key
(5) Sex with the Queen
(6) The Book Thief
(7) The Associate
I know that is a lot of books to be reading at once, but I get bored easily, and I have to change the genre that I am reading to mix it up...
I finished Lewycka's A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian so I'm now onto George Orwell's Animal Farm =) I was quite surprised at how slim the volume is (never had to read it for high school so...)!
Liz wrote: "What do you think of P&P&Zombies?"So far, I like it. I am on chapter 10... It is a lot like the original P&P, just with zombies thrown in all over the place. It is quiet funny actually, because they talk about the "deadly arts" a lot, which is pretty much all of the ways that you can kill zombies... It is really funny!
Jessica wrote: "I finally started Shadow of the Wind yesterday. I'm about half way through, and I'm loving it!"Jessica, Shadow of the Wind is one of those all-time great reads. So far (no pressure) everyone I know that has read it has loved it. Happy reading.
