I read that... don't remember what happened. I will have to read it again because I remember liking it!

I felt the same way - It was "too fairy taleish for me" and my first Gaiman. I have since read Good Omens and liked that a lot.

I "mostly" watched the movie last night. I feel asleep a few times (not the movie's fault - I was exhausted) will "re-watch again".

I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha (really enjoyed it). I started Angela's Ashes last night and I am about 65 pages in...

Linda, I really liked Blackbird House. I loved the way the stories all intertwined and the thematic elements added a little magic to each story. It was a book I just happened to come across at the library and I am glad I did.

Put Handmaid on hold for a while, so I'm reading a mystery I got from the library: Amagansett which I felt compelled to read as I spent many of my childhood vacations there at my grandparents' house. It's pretty engaging so far, despite the "sweeping" and "haunting" prose promised on the dust jacket.
In the UK it is called The Whaleboat House: the name change was certainly because the name Amagansett would have no meaning to someone overseas (but I can't imagine anyone from California would recognize it either).

Hayes, I read this several years ago. Long enough ago I had forgotten about it when constructing my "Read" list, but I think I would give it 4 stars. I hope you enjoy it as well.

I'm finishing up Taltos by Anne Rice (last book in her witches series), starting to read Carrie by Stephen King tomorrow for SK group read for April, and I'm thinking of picking up The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman.
So many books I want to read-just wish I had more time for it!

I am now moving on to Shadow of the Wind for this month's group read and the Spring Challenge. Love it when I can hit multiple objectives with one task! I have heard so many people say such good things about this book here that I hope it lives up to the hype. I actually didn't even know I had it. I just happened to be going through my bookshelves and oddly enough found that I had the French version of the book!

It is a pretty stunning work; and my feelings are mixed. So I wrote a review. This way I don't clutter this thread too much.
Probably going to read Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia A. McKillip next.

i picked up the newer one from Jenny White, i can't remember the name, but it's the sequel to The Sultan's Seal. i also have Brideshead Revisited sitting on my shelf, so i probably should read that one at some point also.
I am about to start Fool.
Tomorrow is April 1st... I think tonite I will open the threads for discussion.....

I think there is something wrong with my sense of humor. I always thought I had a pretty good one, but I've tried both Neil Gaiman's Good Omen and Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job which I know are suppose are to be great funny books, but I couldn't get though them. What is wrong with me?
I am currently reading: John Adams by David McCullough(I'm not much on nonfiction, but I must say Mr. McCullough does keep the ball rolling), The Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende(A reread, as I am presenting it at my face to face book club next Wednesday), and Evil Genius by Catherine Jink(not far enough into this one to give a judgement yet).

Mosca, I found that book a bit "slow to start" but then got into it and ultimately enjoyed. She has a wonderful poetic style that even during the "slow parts" was enjoyable to read.

In the meantime I've recently finished I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak and was disappointed. I really loved The Book Thief but did not like Messenger very much. I've started The Idea of Perfection which seems good but insufficient to distract me from Sookie for the moment.
Have also ordered Moon Called (the 1st Mercy Thompson book) by Patricia Briggs on the advice of a friend -- seem to be getting sucked in by the "urban fantasy" genre.

Lori, I loved "Fool"! Hope you enjoy it as well. I look forward to the discussion.
Fiona, what did you think of "The Attack"? I remember enjoying the first half of the book, but got a bit bogged down in the second half. After all the explanations, I still didn't grasp how someone could do something like that. Good book though. I have his other book "Swallows of Kabul" on my TBR shelf but haven't gotten to it yet.

Let us know what you think of Memoirs of a Geisha! I recently read and loved it.

Ann, That one is sitting on my shelf. I'd really like to know what you think.

Now I'm going to read Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss.

Yeah, I don't see the comparison. Maybe just because the settings were the same. I thought "A Thousand Splendid Suns" was much better, more readable. But "The Attack" was intriguing in that it was trying to explain the inexplicable. Went at it a bit long though, IMO.

Shadow of the wind is idneed a very good book. PS I love you I enjyed a lot. It si a light read but very emotional sometimes, very funny too and a nice beautiful story.

The movie is even so much better!

Ann from SC: Curious to know how you are enjoying Handle with Care....I have that one on hold at the library....impatiently waiting my turn. I really like Jodi Picoult books though I have only read 3.
Elizabeth (Alaska): I recently read Rest of Her Life....I thought it was okay. Not the greatest but definitely not the worst.

I'm currently reading Beloved by Toni Morrison. I've never read it before or even seen the movie. I know it's one of those that people either really love or absolutely detest, so I'm curious to see how it is.

I have a dear friend who loves the Dark is Rising, so because of her, I thought I would give it a shot.
