Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Sweetie, I will try and read it. It was large print I was readin. BUT it was as soon as I had finished BLACK BEAUTY.

message 9152: by Liz (new)

Liz On a tangent, you two need to make sure you never have the same profile picture, or else this is going to get REALLy confusing.

Carol (caroldias) I´m reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, but it´s being hard to keep up... :( Law students suffer a lot with their study books lol

The first time I read S&S I kept a character list, and that really helped. I also wrote a paper on the Ang Lee film adaptation around a month ago, so I would be willing to try and answer any questions that you have, just send me a message!

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters A Novel and I thought it was great. It was one of those books that kept me laughing and sobbing simultaneously all the way through. I definitely recommend it to everyone.

Now, I'm reading I Am Legend for the Spring Challenge.

How sweet Liz! Than you! Maybe I´ll send a message to you soon LOL
All the Dashwoods in the beginning was a little confusing, but now I think there are only the characters I expect to exist haha

But the chars list is an excellent idea!

Elizabeth (Alaska) I had to set The Hours aside for awhile. I think I'll like it just fine, but I was too anxious to get started on the Spring Challenge. Silly me who wasn't ever going to do any challenges. Anyway, I started East of the Mountains by David Guterson. It's been on my shelf for several years, and I'm glad to start getting to some of these that have been hanging around for awhile.

Glad to hear it! I wasn't really sure what to expect and I've only just started by so far, so good.

message 9164: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Just started Random Family: Love Drugs Trouble and Coming of Age in the Bronx by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc and it is really good so far and pulling me in quickly.

I am also listening to David Sedaris Me Talk Pretty One Day, which is my first audio book for the Spring Challenge. I am on disc two, but I must say I would much rather read than listen. I feel like I am missing so much because I am getting distracted while driving (and this task has to be completed while in some form of transportation). I will be relieved when it is over!! I will probably actually 'read' this book in the future.

message 9167: by Lynai (new)

Lynai I might as well try to read again A Prayer for Owen Meany. I tried to read it a few years back but didn't even reach halfway when I put it down (I haven't expanded my reading taste back then; I was still stuck into the suspense-crime-thriller types that time). Maybe now I might be able to appreciate it much better.

message 9168: by Liz (new)

Liz I finished The Tempeest last night, and thought it was quite good! I'm seeing it performed Friday or Saturday, though, and that should help give me a better concept of how I feel about it.

I really enjoyed DaVinci Code when I read it - I thought he did an excellent job ending each chapter at a place that urged me to the next one - I ended up having to do my "stops" mid chapter. I didn't get into the whole "controversy" I took it just on the basis of a fiction read.

message 9173: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I read Daisy Miller and Ella Enchanted yesterday. The former was okay, but I loved the latter! I had read the first 30 or so pages of it a while ago and then I started other books and left it to wait. I guess that was a mistake because it was definitely one of the best books I've read this year. I'm now going to return to ICTC (of which I've already read about 45 pages) and hope for the same thing.

The Tempest is a wonderful play. I envy you, as I have never seen it performed. Paul Mazursky has a 1982 film with a 20th century retelling is worth watching. (Don't let the fact that Molly Ringwald is in it scare you away. She's actually very good in it.)

I haven't seen Derek Jarman's 1979 version, but I may track it down, since he has done some fascinating work. Has anyone seen it or the 2009 film?

Mosca | 828 comments Just finished Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold.

And I've decided to try and shift gears. Now starting The Antelope Wife by Louise Erdrich. It's been a while since I've read any of her work. We'll see what happens.

p.s. I love The Tempest. Is the 1982 Mazursky film the one with John Cassavetes? That was a wonderful film.

message 9181: by Liz (new)

Liz Wy, I'll be eager to hear your opinion of Sophie's World! I really liked it.
Jamie, I love Ella Enchanted, and I have to warn you that the movie does not compare to the book.
Operandi, both good choices in my opinion.
Julianna, I'm seeing a Royal Shakespeare Company production and those can be dubious...I think this one is meant to be in kind of an African setting.
So I'm currently reading a lot of books right now--first I'm going to finish re-reading Frankenstein and then probably work on Great Expectations and Why Men Don't Listen and Women can't read maps. I think I'll have about 9 hours on trains this weekend...not fun.

message 9182: by Jamie (last edited Mar 04, 2009 08:52AM) (new)

Jamie Liz - I agree with you about the movie. I saw it when it came out and thought it was cute, but the book was SO much better. For the movie, they seemed to build on some of the ideas presented in the book just to create more action or something (which changed too much of the book's plot), but that certainly didn't make the story any better.

Lizz, have you read anything else by the author of Sophie's world? It is one of my favourite books ever but I really enjoyed his other books too. I am always wondering how he manage to come up with those stories...they aren't the more usual kind of fiction stories. Mosca | 828 comments Elizabeth: "Let us know how you like The Antelope's Wife."

Elizabeth The Antelope Wife is the fourth Louise Erdrich book for me. About 10 years ago or so I read Love Medicine, The Beet Queen, and Tracks. Her work is excellent. All three books were riveting and emotionally powerful.

So far, The Antelope Wife is also powerful. She puts her characters through a lot.

Now, I'm about to pick up Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner. I'm looking forward to reading this since I've liked all of her books so far with exception of one (Certain Girls).

I liked Goodnight Nobody, i think that may have been my favorite, after In Her Shoes. i agree with you on Certain Girls, i think she ruined the character for me with that one. it just wasn't as good as Good In Bed...

Lori Walker I'm reading Edgar Sawtelle before I go to bed at night, Arthur Schlesinger's journals at lunch and in between classes, and Lolita before my first class (when I have like 20 minutes to read because I show up early). I like the way the 3 books juggle nicely.
