ooohohh Selena, that is one of my favorite books! I heart Saramago!

I just finished it and it was fabulous.

Lisa Just finished "Matrimony" by GR author Joshua Henkin--liked it very much (although being a parent, I'm not sure I liked that all of the characters problems seemed to be the fault of their upbringing!). Now reading "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Gave up on The Witch's Trinity - Erika Mailman

message 8856: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just finished Run for Your Life yesterday and A Winter Haunting this morning. The Patterson/Ledwidge book was really quite good and as with most of his books a real speed read. The Simmons book was doing it for me until just before the finale. It kind of slipped into "what the heck was he thinking" and then he ended it on a better note. All in all, I would still recommend it.

message 8857: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Just finished Testimony by Anita Shreve and despite the reviews, I thought it was really good.
I am going to start James Patterson's Run for Your Life. Trying to squeeze in books that will not fit in the Spring Challenge!

message 8858: by JuliAnna (new)

JuliAnna | 85 comments I finished Anna Karenina and have started my first Alison Weir biography, Queen Isabella Treachery, Adultery, and Murder in Medieval England. Thanks again to the folks in the group who recommended Weir.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Now reading Cold Granite - Stuart McBride.

message 8860: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal | 144 comments Olympia-I also recently read Change of Heart, and I thought it was a great book. I have only read that one, Nineteen Minutes, and My Sister's Keeper, but I loved all three and look forward to getting more of her books from the library.

I just finished Plum Spooky which I thought was laugh out loud funny in some parts. Now I'm on to The Center Of Everything later today. I think I may need to do some housework first though so my husband won't really think that all I do is read all day!

Sorry just noticed this link. I loved Sarah's Key. It was so intense, I cried in a couple of times while reading it.

Stephanie (sbez05) | 556 comments Heather wrote: "Stephanie wrote: "Just finished Revolutionary Road over the weekend and started on Requiem for a Dream."

Stephanie, what did you think of Revolutionary Road? Did it live up to all the hype?"

Heather - the story is amazingly well told. It's also horribly bleak and depressing, but no surprises there. I have not seen the movie to see how it measures up (my guess is not well, there is a lot that happens internally to the characters that I think will be hard to pull off on film), but as for the book I thought it was really good.

message 8865: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished Uglies last week and am half way through Pretties. I am enjoying the futuristic series :)

message 8866: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Somehow, I accidentally bought Pretties first. I really want to read the series, but need to get Uglies. Glad to hear you are liking it.

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series starts out with One for the Money. It's a great series, and hilarious!

message 8871: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal | 144 comments That would be a hard choice between Morelli and Ranger.....and then throw Diesel into the mix! I just love the character Lula....she has me laughing out loud. I only read Fearless Fourteen and Plum Spooky, but I loved them both. I am definitely going to go back and read them all (hopefully in order). I just hope my library has them all!

message 8872: by Gabby (new)

Gabby R. I just finished Sounder by William Armstrong. I'm reading The Truth About my Bat Mitzvah by Nora Raleigh Baskin.

message 8873: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I love the Plum series. My friend came to visit and she was reading them. She would be on the sofa laughing like crazy. So, I started reading them. I was hooked by about book three.

I finished Firmin by Sam Savage last night. It was OK, but not terrific.

I started reading New Deal or Raw Deal today. So far it's very interesting. It tells about FDR, the Great Depression, and the New Deal.

message 8874: by JuliAnna (new)

JuliAnna | 85 comments I started one of the books in the Plum series, but I couldn't get into it. It sounds like I should give it another try.

message 8875: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I think they are HILARIOUS. I just read the first 4 pretty close to each other, but I think I'm going to try to spread the rest of them out.

message 8876: by Lisa (new)

Lisa JuliAnna, start with the One for the Money. You can really hop in any where but if you start at the beginning you'll get a better background on the characters. Give it 100 pages. If you don't like it by then, you have just been able to cross off about 20 books off your TBR list!

message 8877: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I thought the first 3 were hilarious, and I became officially addicted to the characters by the end of book 4.

message 8878: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Allison do you find you have to read them where no one else can hear you laughing out loud?! My husband thinks I'm crazy when I'm reading them.

message 8879: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I'm about 300 pages into American Gods and I think I want to read everything he's written. I love finding a new (well, to me) author.

message 8880: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) my husband was like "I really just...Allison? You should NOT be laughing that hard from reading a stupid book." Happened just this past weekend!

hahahahaha.

message 8881: by Rora (new)

Rora Now I'm reading Titans of Chaos by John C. Wright.

message 8882: by Missy (new)

Missy (melissamarilyn) This is quite a thread, isn't it? :)

Currently I am re-reading Hush by Donna Jo Napoli, a favorite of mine. It's a quick, (small) 300 page read.

I'm also attempting to branch out from my usual reading comfort zone and try some non-fiction, specifically Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. It's quite interesting, actually, though doesn't quite capture my attention like the fantasy stories I'm so used to.

There's also the "soon-to-be-read" (as in: they're checked out from the library and on my bedside table) The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, A Company of Swans by Eva Ibbotson, and the ever so daunting A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I'm a little scared of the last one, but I'm sure I'll survive if I take it nice and slow.

I read Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass today. I found a great Lost link in the second book. Those who are addicted to the show like I am may have picked up on it. Check out my review for it to see what it was!

I decided to start reading The Painted Veil by Maugham. February is drawing to a close and I realised I hadnt really read a love story yet... so i thought it was a fitting time!

message 8890: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments Just finished Howl's Moving Castle - liked it a lot - more on this later - Now I'm trying to decide between the following:
- Dirty Jobs (Christopher Moore)
- Well of Ascension (Brandon Sanderson)
- Enchantment (Orson Scott Card)
- The Lightning Thief (Rick Riordan)

Little help please?

Robin, go with A Dirty Job. Not only because it was a group read for us, but also because it is just great!

i'm reading The Lost Diary of Don Juan....he invented the modern term..."player"!

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Lbmil, I gave up on The Witch's Trinity

message 8894: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Robin, I agree with Lori...read A Dirty Job.

I read a Handmaid's Tale last year. For me it was an okay read. Most of the time I felt like I was reading just to read because I never made a full investment in the characters. It all comes together at the end though.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I really liked Handmaid's Tale, though it's been a while since I've read it.

The movie is ... interesting.
