I'm sort of in between books right now. I have a bookshelf of books I'm obligating myself to read before buying any new books (my book buying has gotten out of control) and a list of books I'm reading for a challenge. I want to pick something from those lists, but I don't know what.

Light on Snow ... and it's going fast! I'll have to eyespy something else on my TBR pile before the weekend is over :DNice book however
Angela wrote: "Gracee, I am going to read that for the winter challenge... is it good?"Well, I am enjoying it Angela. I'd picked it up at a library sale for 2.00, mentioned it to a friend of mine, and she said MOOOVE it to the top of the TBR list. So, once I could, I did. It sucks you in pretty fast, and the story clips along quickly. There are a few twists that make you rethink what your original knee jerk reaction "could" be in the situation with the characters. It's a thinking book.
There is actually a book club discussion section in the back of my edition, it will be interesting to read that as well.
You'll enjoy it.
I just finished The Book Thief. I hate to say it but I didn't fall in love with it as everyone else has (please don't throw rotten fruit at me...!). Maybe it was all the hype built up around it or maybe I just wasn't in the mood. I simply didn't find that the book fully engaged me, even though the theme was interesting and it was a cute book overall. I didn't find the characters to be truly fleshed out, leaving a distance between me and the story. Of course, with Death as the narrator, I guess a little distance is inevitable.I am now starting Love in the Time of Cholera in the hopes of finishing it in time to finally participate in a group read discussion.

I will check it out, thanks!

tsk...Fiona can't go more than 15 minutes without recommending I Capture the Castle to someone.Luckily, now I understand why. Great book-you really should check it out Melissa!

Susan, It's tough when books transport you back in time and then return to the present. Choosing what time period you enjoy the best can be a real dilemma. I sometimes think, though, that the tennis match back and forth through time is sometimes what "makes" the story.
JuliAnna wrote: "His first book, which I haven't read, is generally considered not worth reading..."I have to disagree with this :) His first book, The Big U, was a lot lighter and sillier than his later books, but I *loved* it when I read it. (It's a book set in a college, and I was in college when I read it, which probably helped) My friends and I all felt it was a surprisingly effective farce on the culture of engineering/science students, we certainly saw a lot of ourselves in it. :)

Geez, Fiona! I thought I was special!
I am currently reading Z for Zachariah by Robert C. O'BrienI started it about half an hour ago and am 43 pages in, so hopefully I will read the entire book tonight!!
I am reading "Chasing Vermeer"
It is about a thief stealing a painting and this book has puzzles. A LOT OF PUZZLES!
There are three books in the series.
Book 1- Chasing Vermeer
Book 2- Wright 3
Book 3- The Calder Game

Thanks for the recommendations!! I'll have to check them all out!
Yeah, I've only read 1 HP and it was a wonderful, fast, and easy read, so I guess I could try another. It took so long for me to get through JN&MS that I kinda lost my motivation for reading, despite the fact that I actually did enjoy the book! I have read one since, The Heretic's Daughter, which was also amazing.
Maybe I'm just afraid of being disappointed after 2 such amazing books!
Melissa, I know how you feel-being scared to read after reading two great books in a row. My two favorite books of 2008 were Shadow of the Wind and The Book Thief. You should check those out too, if you haven't already.
My TBR bookcase cracks me up. When I finish a book, I usually have a pretty good idea in my head of what I'll read next. Then I go to get it from the bookcase, and everything else there beckons to me...and I wind up grabbing something I hadn't even considered. So, tonight I find myself starting Lady Audley's Secret.

I think I may have started HP 2 at some point, so maybe I'll start with that!
HP=best saga ever. Go. read. now.I have reread that series so many times, and every single time I still almost cry when I finish (I'm no crier). Plus it makes me feel like I should go conquer a world or something. haha.

ahhh, silly me
Just started Darwinia A Novel of a Very Different Twentieth Century by Robert Charles Wilson. This is an author I have never read before. Like it so far.
Jackie wrote: "I started Dragonfly in Amber last night. So far so good!"enjoy the ride...each one is better than the next
After I finished Love in the Time of Cholera, I wanted something easy and mindless, so I picked upDon't Look Down. I read about 100 pages in what felt like an hour, maybe two, so it certainly fit the bill. But then I went and bought I Capture the Castle, started reading it, and haven't even looked back at that other one.
I just started SEA OF POPPIES by Amitav Ghosh. It's engaging so far. I'm boarding the schooner, the Ibis, and seeing where it will take me...
I'm completely in between books right now. I don't know what I want to pick up next. I keep having strong urgings towards The Fountainhead, All the King's Men, and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle A Novel. All three are really long, especially with trying to balance various books and readings for class. Whatever I decide to read, I want it to be productive for me.
Cynthia wrote: "I am reading Atlas Shrugged... I must say that in the beginning it seem very involved and complex but after the first 75 pages it took off and I can't put it down!"
Cynthia, I have tryed to read that book 3 times in my life, and all three times I cant make it past page 60..... Does it really get better after page 75? I thought all the characters seemed so cruel and self serving and I hated reading about them.

Ann, I read the Pesthouse and wasnt 100 happy with it. Ive read two other Crace novels that I felt were far superior to it. If you like his style, check out Quarantine A Novel and Being Dead A Novel

Melissa, I am currently reading a book I love, but cant seem to want to sit still long enough to finish it. My mind seems to be elsewhere... Its something that I would normally have finished in two days and Its been about a week.... So i know how you feel!

I've been considering it for some time.
Jeane, Postmortem picked up for me after the third chapter. I really didn't want to put it down last night, but was falling asleep and I really wasn't retaining what I was reading, so I had to stop mid-chapter. But so far so good.
I'm glad you like Postmortem Alisha, I have it on my nightstand, but I haven't really been motivated enough to start it yet.
Yeah, I wasn't that motivated to start it either, but since I own about six of the Scarpetta series, I thought that I should really start reading them. Plus, Jeane recommended them so highly, I couldn't really say no.
Allison wrote: "Good to know! I have the first 3 I think, maybe I'll crack into them this week. Thanks :-)"
I've read all of them up to the 2nd to the last one, and, while I like them all, the first few were the best!

Yes yes yes!!!!:-) Go and enjoy yourself!!!!
Angela, I enjoyed MYSTIC RIVER so much that I had gone back to my library repeatedly to read anything else Lehane had written.I next read GONE, BABY, GONE and was not disappointed. SHUTTER ISLAND was good, but not as enjoyable. I agree, the books are superior to the movies.Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with GIVEN DAY. I thought that the characters were not well developed and I felt I was slogging through it. I never finished it. In all fairness, I see that some people did enoy it, but many agreed with my assessment. I'll look forward to your comments after you read it.
I started The Jane Austen Book Club and I already don't like it.And I usually don't judge a book until I'm at least 100 pages in.
