What are you reading?

I can wait for you Jeane:) Even though it's such a pretty, beckoning book. I don't mind.

Man is it intense. I was forewarned and so ....you just gotta hang on for the ride....it's worth it.

Jenna, I finished it just before dinner. That has to be the quickest start to finish time for me ever! I liked the conversation tone to it, the character was talking right to you..... but I was a little disappointed in the ending.
How about you?
How about you?

Right now I'm reading The Harrowing Alexandra Sokoloff. It seems like a fast read (according to the blurb, at least. Yep, I never learn. I have too much faith in advertisement when it comes to books) and I need something fast after reading "The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher". I'm also unofficially doing the Year of Reading Dangerously challenge and since I don't really read horror, I thought that "The Harrowing" would be a good place to start. Hope I'm not mistaken.

i see you're talking about The Reluctant Fundementalist. i agree, the ending was kind of a let down. i thought the story was very good, very realistic, and very thought provoking.

I am burnt out with memoirs so I'm switching themes. I have just started the Alchemist. So far it is interesting.

I loved it too Jill. I felt like my heart would melt it was so good.

I really enjoyed this book. The story is good but the history is fascinating!

I would like to read The Book Theif but I am hesitant, what do you think of it if you've read it?
I also want to read Revolutionary Road before I see the movie. Does anyone have any thoughts on this book too?

The other book I am reading is December by Elizabeth Hartley Winthrop. Another eh. Kind of slow, and the weaving in and out of first to third person narrative makes me more than a little dizzy. Oh well.

Cindy, I loved Devil in the White City, but I may be a bit prejudice since I grew up in Chicago and was simply mesmerized by the development of all the areas I only knew from living in close proximity. I rarely re-read a book, but this is one I will more than likely revisit. Hope you enjoy it.

The Book Thief was great and was one of my more popular giveaways.

Jamie, if you liked Zusak's style in The Book Thief, I think that you would like Messenger as well. I think it's one of those books that you either love or hate. I loved it.
(Edit: I probably shouldn't say "style" because the style is different between the two books. If you liked his VOICE in The Book Thief, you should like Messenger.) :)

Girl with a Pearl Earring

Robin - Julie and Julia was just "OK" and the sustained tone was rather whiny. I wouldn't bother picking it up again.

I am reading I am the Messenger and it is terrific. I hope the ending is not what made you hate it Carrie. Cause I am loving it ! Prob not even 1/2way thru yet.

Did you like Beedle the Bard? I just bought it and haven't seen much about it
on goodreads...probably looking in the wrong places! But I'd rather stick to my own groups. If you see this I'd love to hear your "Bard Thoughts"

YIPPEE!

well, I don't know when I will get it from the library so jsut tell em when you all start and then I start or try to start the moment I get it.

Now...
[b:The Mission Song ..."
at least you bring down piles, doesn't matter if you change your mind.
Henning mankell!!!!!

Stephnaie, you mean I'm not scared about the italian boy? If so, I finsihed it yesterday I think. I liked it. In the beginning nothing was really hapenning but then suddenly, wow! It was well written wasn't it?

Linda, let us know how The girl with the pearl eaaring goes. I loved th ebook adn movie, very strong story I thought.

YIPPEE!"
Great Laura!! Now I just need the book.

(Somewhere, Lori is heaving a big sigh of relief that I finally got around to setting up the thread!)
I can't WAIT to start it. But building up anticipation is a good thing too!

Right now, I'm reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I've never read any of The Chronicles of Narnia before so I'm excited to start.

Didn't you say you never read horror? Aren't you glad you read it, so now you have even more choices!

I would like to read The Book Theif but I am hesitant, what do you think of it if you've read it?
I also want to read Revolutionary ..."
I'll highly recommend Book Thief!!

LOL - Going through those posts is how I get all my nuggets for the TBR file - so I can't "skip them". Do I sound OCD ;-p

So once a month a go to the Arlington VA public library to do a lecure on "business and writing" - They have a bunch of shelves in the 'parking garage' filled with free books. Everytime I go there I go through the shelves - last time I scored Pillars of the Earth. This month I got Secret Life of Bees AND 6 Patterson books and Brad Meltzer Book of Lies -- Woot!
