Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I finished Maisie Dobbs last night. It was a good read. Not your standard mystery, not even for historical mysteries.

I have no idea what's next - I have two more in the Dobbs series, and I may read one of those, though.

Natalee (nataleem00) | 79 comments I am reading Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse)... and will soon start Rebecca as soon as its delivered! I cant wait to get my hands on it.

message 7403: by Sue (new)

Sue | 7 comments I am at a book stand-still. My personal shelf is not caught up because I just have too many books to post. I am in need of something that really grabs me, nothing too romantic. I just finished from Beruit to Jerusulam and really loved the insight but if you know anything about the book, you probably know why I need something different! Any suggestions on something newer that really grabbed you?

Sue, I have tons of books to recommend, but maybe it would be better for you to just browse my bookshelf, and see if something grabs you??

Check out Fidali's Way: A Novel, hot off the Scribner press. Timely, page-turning, great story. I highly recommend it.

JG (Introverted Reader) I just finished one of my dad's favorite westerns, The Sachem. It was surprisingly entertaining! Now I'm on to some fun fluff--The Seduction of the Crimson Rose.

message 7409: by Chrystal (new)

Chrystal | 144 comments Ann from SC-I also enjoyed The Host. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. By the way...I'm also from SC!

I just finished the Reader......now onto Gone.

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments Linda, that is definitely interesting to see how so many of us come together in a love for certain books. :) Very cool. Got to give props to those authors for writing stories that appeal to so many of us who otherwise have different tastes in books. :)

message 7413: by Liz (new)

Liz (hissheep) Just began "Songs for the Missing" by Stewart O'Nan.
Just finished "Tell No One" by Harlan Coben.

Thanks! My husband has also read the series (he's the one that urged me to read it) and he really liked that one as well! :) I'm really looking forward to reading it, but I'm waiting for it in the mail so it may be a few more days before I can start. :( Your excitement is contagious, though, and I can barely wait!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments just finished the first book in the Uglies series..ehh..it was ok..a little too juvenile for my liking honestly.

Now i'm starting The Secret Life of Bees.

message 7416: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Jamie- I was actually going to read those! Do you think it's worth the effort?

I am listening to Blaze by Stephen King on audio during my commute. I've already read it, and really liked it. I think I am in the minority.

message 7417: by Ken (new)

Ken (scete) | 31 comments "The Manual of the Warrior of Light" by Paulo Coelho is the book I am reading at present. Not to be read quickly but be savoured a page at a time.

hmm..i mean..i think they were an interesting concept but i really felt like i would have liked them so much more if i was 16 again or something. I'm not against YA novels by any means..i've enjoyed quite alot of them..but i really just felt like i'd prefer to be reading something else over these. i mean..i'll probably end up picking up the rest just bc i want to know what happens lol..but they were a quick read so it won't be a huge chunk of time.

message 7420: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Jamie- Okay, I'll admit here I read the entire Twilight saga in about a week! I was just supposed to previewing it for my goddaughter, but got so caught up! Is it along those lines? I'm okay with reading below my level if it's a good story. They do seem easy and quick (like Twilight).

message 7421: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Ann from S.C. wrote: "I am reallY getting into THE HOST."

Once I got into it, I read it in one sitting! It was ridiculously addicting :-)

message 7422: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I am getting into Outlander...SO GOOD! I'm going to have to run to the used bookstore on my way home and grab up the rest of the series, I can already tell.

message 7423: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I'm only like 240 pages into it...She is meeting with the Randall guy to determine who she is/if she is a spy. Of course, from reviews and such I know what happens but thats okay, still engrossing!

message 7424: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Is Outlander a quick read? I've been meaning to read it, but the size turns me off.

Allison (inconceivably) Jackie wrote: "Is Outlander a quick read? I've been meaning to read it, but the size turns me off. "

Hey Jackie-I was just thinking about you when I signed on, haha...because we have so many books in common, and the Outlander page shows me it is on your "to read" shelf-I was meaning to message you and tell you to give it a shot! I have rocketed through it so far, super fast read! The first 100 pages or so is back story getting the stage set-get through that, and the rest flies!

message 7426: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I got my copy of Outlander on Bookmooch, but it is a $3.99 mass market paperback edition...if you can find that one, might be worth buying!

message 7427: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Thanks Allison & Fiona. They are massive, but if it's an engrossing read then I don't mind. I've heard so many good things about the series.

Allison, we do seem to be book twins. LOL.

I know what you mean-if there is a book I want, I pretty much can't wait to get it, but I wasn't aware of how good Outlander would be when I requested it on Bookmooch-or I probably wouldn't have been able to wait to have it shipped. :-) hehe.

I also have a 1/2 price bookstore nearby, which is where I'm stopping after work-hoping they have at least the 2nd and 3rd in the series!

Jackie-if you do start it, make sure and keep me updated on how you're enjoying it! (I kind of had to struggle through the beginning a bit, but once she goes back in time things get good...so be patient at first!)

message 7430: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I finished Sarah's Key last night. It was a great read, but it was a major tearjerker. I was bawling through like half of the book.

Right now I'm reading People of the Book A Novel by Geraldine Brooks.

message 7431: by Liz (new)

Liz I have 7 books on my currently reading on list, and there's only 3 of them which I don't despearately need to work on because they're due for class or I'm writing an essay that's related to them. I'm focusing on A Room with a View and will start on Ghost Road tonight so I don't end up reading the vast majority of it all at once...I look forward to being able to get my currently reading numbers down to 6 or 5 (gasp!).

message 7434: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I'm reading The Graveyard Book. It's going so quick compared to Gaiman's other books...I know it's YA, but his are books I'm happy to spend some time on. I'll finish it after another half hour with it and be on to The Hour I First Believed A Novel if there isn't a delivery from amazon or borders waiting for me.

I am enjoying it, I'm writing an essay about the film version of it and Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility as this thing called heritage films (I'm taking a film class). I find it quite amusing.

message 7436: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Journey of a Thousand Miles, My Story by Lang Lang...Chinese piano prodigy/master...mid-twenties. Boy are we Americans wimpy about staying focused on our goals and the work we need to achieve them!

message 7437: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I also just finished the Professor and the Madman...great non-fiction about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary.

message 7438: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cocoareads) | 2 comments I am reading Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood and I love, love, love it. I have been meaning to read this one for years. It is an excellent portrait of a woman's life from childhood through middle age. It is refreshing to read from a distinctly female perspective, warts and all.

message 7439: by Joseph (last edited Jan 14, 2009 02:23PM) (new)

Joseph (jazzman) I'm exactly 25% finished with THe Best Short Stories of 2008,edited by Salman Rushdie. Most are quite long, averaging about 6,000 words.I'd like to write a review of my experience so far,but I'm not sure if this is the place. It will probably be quite lengthy.
I can't find where else to do the review. I've checked my presently reading page but don't see any place there to write it. I've written other reviews, so I don't know what I'm missing
As you may be able to guess, I'm a pretty impatient person, especaially when it involves a tempermental computer called Hal.(among other things).
Any kind persons out there who would be willing to help? Best.

Joseph, you could just review the book as normal, on the books page, and link us to it. If you are looking for a place within the threads to post the actual review, we really dont do that here.

Angela | 1934 comments Just finished the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I read it in one sitting... great book!

JG (Introverted Reader) Just finished The Seduction of the Crimson Rose. It was more fun fluff from Lauren Willig. Although I've read enough about arched eyebrows to last a lifetime...

Now starting The Shadow of the Wind. I'm really looking forward to this one!

message 7444: by Maureen (new)

Maureen I'm reading the second to the last of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series, These Happy Golden Years. (Never quite finished this series when I was a child, although I really don't know why, as I really loved all of the ones I read.)

message 7447: by Catherine (new)

Suzanne (suzanneramos) | 45 comments Brisinger by Christopher Paolini and Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts. When I finish with those, I will start either Heart of the Sea or Pride and Prejudice, or maybe The Jane Austen Book Club (which I picked up tonight, along with the Historian and Wizards First Rule).
