No problem! I was born in a pretty small town in Kansas, so I also connected with the small town aspect, even though we moved away when I was still fairly young, so I can't really say I "grew up" there. Happy reading!

I did the same thing! I was about halfway through and just stopped! I can't decide if I want to finish it.

I haven't had a chance to pick up JS & MN. I've had a busy week so when I unwind I just want an easy read. I must admit that between the slowness and the footnotes I've been turned off a bit.

I felt the same way too. Excellent book!

Don't consider it....you must read it! Very enjoyable and just a tad creepy!! Great fun!

I didn't realize Pay it Forward was a book first - I saw the movie and thought it was very well done - All the actors (Halley Joel Osmett, Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt) did a great job. And it was very well written. I would give the movie high marks except for the VERY VERY VERY end. I think you who have seen it will know what I man. Does the book have the same ending?

I loved Pay It Forward. I had to buy it after I read the book from the library. I've read another book by her and I can't think what it is...Let me look...Electric God. This one was just okay. I can't remember if it was more of a modern-day Job story or Jonah story. One of those J's from the Old Testament anyway! :-) I was disappointed by it.

I'm about 1/2 way through it.
I am really liking it but it is taking a lot longer to read than I thought. I am going to have to rearrange my TBR list for all the time I'm taking on it.
I have the movie so I read several chapters and then watch that part of the movie. It helps get a picture in my mind of Scarlet and the other characters.
I am so glad I am reading this. It is defintely a great classic and one I actually enjoy!

I've really enjoyed the Alex Cross series too. I'll be picking up a copy of Cross Country for sure when I'm in the mood for Patterson again.

Thanks Ann, that was me who asked. I'll def. check out Pay it Forward (I can use that for the challenge now) and Love in the Present Tense too! Thanks everyone for the comments about her novels. Ann, I think you'll LOVE Chasing Windmills.

Kate, I love Alex Cross as well, but since Patterson has gone on a stream of writing books that just don't seem to pan out for me, I am going to (for once) try this one from the library. I just can't make myself spend the money when I know I'll be done with the book in a day, maybe two at the outside.

Although it will be awhile until I get a copy of this book, I feel I must buy it because I own a copy of every book in this series so far. If I didn't I'd probably head to the library as well :)

Just started The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares

I think it is my first book from a Gr author."

i didn't even know! I just noticed when I put it on my list...

i think I read it in a week. really liked it but kept in my mind that I was reading a fiction book. Afterwards I did start to look up more about what I read, but while reading it I saw it just as a story.

So, I'm gonna try to start Deathly Hallows today after I'm done mourning for a while--haha.

Hey don't worry...the characters that die only die physically...they are still very much a part of Harry's life :-) Deathly Hallows is more than worth your time!

I tried The Host but just couldnt get into it. Did it get better later on? I was really wanting it to be good but I just found myself uninterested.

Well I'm not too terribly far into it yet, but I agree that the beginning was a little slow, thats why it took me a few days to pick it back up. But I find myself getting more and more invested in the characters as I continue...if it keeps me hooked I'll probably read the rest of it this weekend, so I'll let you know!

I tried to read the Da Vinci Code could not get into it no matter how many times i tried. anything that is not written in 1st person i can't really get into for some reason.

Finishing When you are engulfed in flames (David Sedaris) which has made me laugh out loud a couple of times already.
Temple of the Winds and Blood of the Fold (Terry Goodkind)
The Ox-Bow Incident (Walter Van Tilburg)
Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier)... I have heard so much about it on here.. it's time I read it!
Happy Reading!
p.s. I find it really hard to log in here everyday and keep up on this thread, so do not be offended if I don't respond to you. If there are too many new posts I only skim them. =)

I hope you like Twilight. I think it's the best of the series. The others just weren't as interesting IMO. =)

Right now I'm reading Joy School by Elizabeth Berg. It's the sequel to Durable Goods (which was great) and it seems like a quick, easy read. It's going fast so far anyway.

While I am waiting for that book to get here, I thought I would start A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I read the Kite Runner and I thought that that was a very good book. It taught me a lot about the cultural and historical background of Afghanistan. I lvoe books that are fictional but still ahve a cultural aspect to them. I will see how this next one is as well.
Jenn, If you read Rebecca and like it you should read Jamaica Inn and Frenchman's Creek. They are both by Daphne Du Maurier, and they are two of my favorite books.

Rebecca is awesome Jenn! I liked it so much I bought its sequel as well, Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beaumann. I'm yet to read it.

i have no clue what to read next..

How is it going Ofmatt? i read it maybe two years ago or so and quite like it. Of course, all the books of that writer are a bit weird but I always like them when i finished reading.

It's the biographies of the tweleve ceasars written in 98AD by Suetonius. It reads like a sunday tabloid hack report and translated by Graves who went on to write Claudius the God etc (TV's I Claudius)
Superb fun.

Jenn-Rebecca is good, it's a really quick read and the plot has a nice flow.

Just purchased The Valkyries and Manual of the Warrior of Light, Paul Coelho I am looking forward to reading these.

Each weather event such as Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Wind, Snow, etc are included in their own chapter and each event has a "How to Stay Safe" section.
It's rather redundant and Im' WAY bored!
Maybe I can knock this off today.
DEFINITELY not one of the TNB's!
