No problem! I was born in a pretty small town in Kansas, so I also connected with the small town aspect, even though we moved away when I was still fairly young, so I can't really say I "grew up" there. Happy reading!

message 7255: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Currently reading Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella. I'm only up to chapter 3 and haven't really had a chuckle yet. Usually Kinsella's books are really funny, so I'm hoping this one gets better.

I haven't had a chance to pick up JS & MN. I've had a busy week so when I unwind I just want an easy read. I must admit that between the slowness and the footnotes I've been turned off a bit.

Staci I just finished Guernsey Literary and now I'm reading Cross Country by James Patterson. It is a Alex Cross series book that I just have to read. I love the character Alex Cross. And I'll be the first to admit it...I love the short chapters!! makes for a fast, easy read!!

I didn't realize Pay it Forward was a book first - I saw the movie and thought it was very well done - All the actors (Halley Joel Osmett, Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt) did a great job. And it was very well written. I would give the movie high marks except for the VERY VERY VERY end. I think you who have seen it will know what I man. Does the book have the same ending?

JG (Introverted Reader) I haven't seen the movie, but from your reaction, I'm guessing they end the same.

I loved Pay It Forward. I had to buy it after I read the book from the library. I've read another book by her and I can't think what it is...Let me look...Electric God. This one was just okay. I can't remember if it was more of a modern-day Job story or Jonah story. One of those J's from the Old Testament anyway! :-) I was disappointed by it.

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments OK y'all. I'm reading Gone With The Wind
I'm about 1/2 way through it.
I am really liking it but it is taking a lot longer to read than I thought. I am going to have to rearrange my TBR list for all the time I'm taking on it.
I have the movie so I read several chapters and then watch that part of the movie. It helps get a picture in my mind of Scarlet and the other characters.
I am so glad I am reading this. It is defintely a great classic and one I actually enjoy!

Kate, I love Alex Cross as well, but since Patterson has gone on a stream of writing books that just don't seem to pan out for me, I am going to (for once) try this one from the library. I just can't make myself spend the money when I know I'll be done with the book in a day, maybe two at the outside.

Although it will be awhile until I get a copy of this book, I feel I must buy it because I own a copy of every book in this series so far. If I didn't I'd probably head to the library as well :)

i think I read it in a week. really liked it but kept in my mind that I was reading a fiction book. Afterwards I did start to look up more about what I read, but while reading it I saw it just as a story.

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Just finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and I'm sitting here crying. Everyone I know has been telling me to keep reading, and I know I will, but at the same time I don't want to. It sounds ridiculous because these books are fictional, but having grown up alongside Harry, the death of a character who has become very real to me is one of the toughest blows I've ever been dealt in a book.

So, I'm gonna try to start Deathly Hallows today after I'm done mourning for a while--haha.

Hey don't worry...the characters that die only die physically...they are still very much a part of Harry's life :-) Deathly Hallows is more than worth your time!

message 7278: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) So I started Meyer's The Host about a week ago and got 50 pages into it, then got distracted by other things...now I'm seriously getting back into it-about 120 pages in, and I'm really liking it! I know it won't be another Twilight, but its nice to see that she'll be producing other good things!

Well I'm not too terribly far into it yet, but I agree that the beginning was a little slow, thats why it took me a few days to pick it back up. But I find myself getting more and more invested in the characters as I continue...if it keeps me hooked I'll probably read the rest of it this weekend, so I'll let you know!

Finishing When you are engulfed in flames (David Sedaris) which has made me laugh out loud a couple of times already.

Temple of the Winds and Blood of the Fold (Terry Goodkind)

The Ox-Bow Incident (Walter Van Tilburg)

Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier)... I have heard so much about it on here.. it's time I read it!

Happy Reading!

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I decided to drop Mercy because I really did not like any of the three central characters, so I decided that it would go the way of The Tenth Circle: A Novel and Vanishing Acts: A Novel and go unread.

Right now I'm reading Joy School by Elizabeth Berg. It's the sequel to Durable Goods (which was great) and it seems like a quick, easy read. It's going fast so far anyway.

message 7286: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (panda_k) Hello eveyrone! I am new here, I was just checking things out. I just finished the book Night Watch which I really loved. It's a series so I will have to get the next one.

While I am waiting for that book to get here, I thought I would start A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. I read the Kite Runner and I thought that that was a very good book. It taught me a lot about the cultural and historical background of Afghanistan. I lvoe books that are fictional but still ahve a cultural aspect to them. I will see how this next one is as well.

Jenn, If you read Rebecca and like it you should read Jamaica Inn and Frenchman's Creek. They are both by Daphne Du Maurier, and they are two of my favorite books.

It's the biographies of the tweleve ceasars written in 98AD by Suetonius. It reads like a sunday tabloid hack report and translated by Graves who went on to write Claudius the God etc (TV's I Claudius)

Superb fun.

message 7294: by Liz (new)

Liz Darla, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is a quick read--it's humorous but also definitely has a sentimental side. I thought it had a nice balance of the two.
Jenn-Rebecca is good, it's a really quick read and the plot has a nice flow.

message 7298: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (imkevbo) For the last 2(?) weeks I've been reading Freaks of the Storm. A compilation of meteorological oddities through the years. While I was really very excited to get going on this and was WAY into for a couple of chapters, I can't WAIT to get it over with.

Each weather event such as Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Wind, Snow, etc are included in their own chapter and each event has a "How to Stay Safe" section.

It's rather redundant and Im' WAY bored!

Maybe I can knock this off today.

DEFINITELY not one of the TNB's!
