Mark | 10 comments I am now reading Agent to the Stars by JOhn Scalzi. It has been a wonderful read - very funny and even absurd, the book reminds me a little of Douglas Adams' work. Also I just finished LONDONSTANI.and it was a good read as well.

message 6402: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I really enjoyed Mistress of the Art of Death and City of Shadows is by far my favorite of hers. She also writes under the name of Diana Norman.

Heather, Saving Fish From Drowning improves as it goes on but it is quite a bit different from her usual fare.

I hope you like this book. I read it in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. $7 is a great price as well.

message 6404: by Melody (new)

Melody | 564 comments I have just picked up and read a few chapters of Prodigal Summer and put it down again. It's not like me to not finish a book once I start but I am not enjoying it and cannot get into it.
I have read chapter one of The Art of Racing in the Rain and this loooks like a book I will really enjoy so I am sticking with that one.

message 6405: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Finally finished True Believer by Nicholas Sparks. Now I'm starting on At First Sight.

message 6406: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Melody...really? You put it down????

message 6407: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I loved Prodigal Summer. That just shows you the different tastes we all have.
Petra loves LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA, and i put it down. Go figure...

message 6408: by Dorie (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 430 comments Paula, how are you doing with "The Confessions of Max Tivoli"? I really enjoyed that one and liked the ending much better than "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". The story was definitely better fleshed-out.

I finally finished "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr and loved it, even though it was a bit morbid at times. I'll have to pick up the sequel now. In the meantime, I stopped by the library last night and picked up a new book, "City of Thieves" by David Benioff, set at the time of the siege of Leningrad. Two young men meeting in prison are offered an outrageous assignment in order to escape execution: find a dozen eggs in the besieged city.

I am glad I am not alone in my feelings on Edgar. Although, I still say I am glad I read it. The writing truly was good.
Linda and I have had some discussion on it and she really brings up some good points. (You can see this in my review but be aware there are spoilers)

I just finished The Christmas Train by David Baldacci.
This is one of my favorite X-mas stories. This is the 3rd time I've read it. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed.

I am going to start The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Looking forward to this....

On deck is The Book of Lies

message 6410: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Just finished Stardust, which I liked. I'm going to start on my first Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express.

message 6411: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just started Sarah's Key this morning and am already intrigued. I love books that swing back and forth in time and this one seems to do it seemlessly.

Went to a book club meeting at B&N last night to get a sense of whether I want to join the group and the author was there. Did not have a chance to read her book - Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen: A Novel - but if the book is as good as the author's ability to connect with her audience, I think this one will be a winner.

Kathy | 38 comments Hayes wrote: "Secret Life of Bees - I'm liking it, but fear it will turn predictable.

My book club really enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees too. I thought it very good and I loved the Characters.

He wrote the episode called "Day of the Dead" which was a wonderful episode.

I loved "The Shack." It was very heartwarming and really made me think about forgiveness. I think you will like it if you finish it.

message 6415: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I am reading 4 books in total:

The Greek Key - Colin Forbes
Lucky - Alice Sebold
When the Bough Breaks - Jonathan Kellerman
In Their Footsteps - Tess Gerritsen

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Fiona, hope you enjoy Lucky. I read it a couple of months ago and thought it was amazing. Better than The Lovely Bones.

I picked up Dead Souls by Gogol this morning. On chapter 2 and I really like the authors tone.

message 6418: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Yeah, I hope I like it as well. Cos I have heard from 2 ppl so far that it was a great book.

message 6419: by Yolanda (new)

Yolanda (honeyyocat) | 1 comments i am reading peter carrot-top. It's a great fantasy book

message 6420: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Yeah, Lucky for me was bittersweet. It was an amazing book and I'm glad I read it, but at the same time, I'm completely depressed about what the author went through.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Have u read The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold?

message 6423: by Jill (new)

Jill | 19 comments Fiona wrote: "Have u read The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold?"

Don't know who this question was directed at, so I'll give my input...

I really didn't like this book. I'd heard so many good things about Alice Sebold, I was utterly disappointed. I'm planning on reading The Lovely Bones, I hope it won't be as disappointing.

message 6424: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Fiona wow you are reading so many at a time. How are you feeling?

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Jackie wrote: "Just finished Stardust, which I liked. I'm going to start on my first Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express. "

jakie, is it really the first one you are going to read? I really hope you like it. Thanks to her books I am obsessed with reading and my first memories of books are hers. The one you picked up is a good one, hopefully not the last one.

message 6426: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Kelly, they cancelled the operation this morning.

Jillian, the question orginally was for Alisha (sp), but anyone can answer. Have u read Lucky by Alice Sebold?

message 6427: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Lori, I've wanted to read Dead Souls since they mentioned it in an episode of Gilmore Girls. Probably a bad reason to read Gogol, but I'd still want to give it a shot.

No, I have not read Lucky. I have been kind of jaded since The Almost Moon was the first Alice Sebold book that I read and I just really didn't like it. You'll have to let me know what you think. :-)

message 6429: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Lucky, is her biography Jillian.

message 6430: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Jeane, yes it's the first time I've ever read a Agatha Christie novel and I'm excited! :-)

I've never been much of a mystery person so that's why I never read anything by her before. I'm trying to expand my horizons.

I just finished East of Eden and just loved it. Does anyone feel like Kathy may have been a sexual abuse survivor? Steinbeck was brilliant with his character development.
I read the Lace Reader and really enjoyed the twist at the end. I knew something didn't quite fit and in the end it all came together. It was an easy read and it kept my interest.
Edgar Sawtelle was a complete let down for me. I felt very cheated by the ending. The reader deserved more that that at the end!
Now I'm reading Revolutionary Road for my book club and 13th Tale for fun. I hope they are both excellent.

message 6432: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I hope you will enjoy it Jackie...and if you need help to expand your crime horizon...there are some almost freaks here that can help you...

message 6433: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments So Jeane. Is that a good or a bad thing? Well when you do have it done, Good Luck.

message 6434: by Karisa (new)

Karisa (mskarisa) | 2 comments The Palace of Illusions. The author's name escapes me at the moment. Very good so far!

message 6435: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Kelly, I don't know what you are talking about? Sorry...

message 6436: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Think Kelly means about the Crime thing, Jeane.

message 6437: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Sorry Jeane I meant to put that for Fiona. Boy I'm losing it. See what stress does to you. LOL.

message 6438: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Errm, no idea Kelly. I am now awaiting an appt to become available here. Its not a bad thing as I am not in pain with the teeth.

message 6439: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Fiona, I started reading "Almost Moon" about five months ago. Got through I think 100 pages when I just decided to chuck it. At first, I thought the plot was interesting, but the execution (from what I've read anyway) not so much. Congratulations, if you finished it. You have much more willpower than I do.

Jillian, it's unfortunate that "Almost Moon" was your first Alice Sebold book since most people would say it was her worst one. I personally loved "The Lovely Bones", but loved "Lucky" so much more. You can't go wrong with those two.

message 6440: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Alisha, I read 150 odd pages and hated it. I liked 'The Lovely Bones' and would like to see what her 'Lucky' is like.

message 6441: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I hated the lovely bones so much that I am not even concidering to read any of ehr books in the future.

Kelly that's okay...I was wondering if I was really feeling too tired...

message 6442: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Jeane, 'Lucky' is her biography of her life. Incase you feel you might wanna read it in the future.

message 6443: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Fiona I'm glad you are in no pain. That would be a big distraction from getting your reading done huh? LOL

message 6444: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Thanks Jeane. I'm glad you have a sense of humor.

message 6445: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I would dose up on painkillers and read til I fall asleep lol.

message 6446: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh fiona(2), wan't even concider it. Really her other book was so .....waist of time. She is done with for me. If her biography is the same style like the fiction she wrote.... and the story was really the kind of stories that I don't like. There is only one positive thing to say about the book, the cover mine has is beautiful. Maybe that's why they say never to judge a book by its cover!

message 6447: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Well, thats so true for the book. But you made a decision that I respect Jeane. xx

message 6448: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I respect your opinion as well Fi. Might read it and see what I feel. I have given up on a few books that others might not of done as well.

Before anyone asks, I can't remember what they were lol.

message 6449: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh but Fiona (2)that is completely okay for me. I hope you keep liking them a lot. I am glad when people like books, but am even more glad when i like a book, so it doens't matter for me when someone likes a book that I don't. I am glad for you that it gives you a good feeling. :-)

I should have never taken it because of the cover. Hearing so many people telling it was a great book made me buy it after seeing the cover. But some way inside of me I jsut knew already before reading it that it is the kind of story that is jsut not for me. Should have done what I normally do: not read it and let other people enjoy it. :-)

message 6450: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Well, lets say for arguments sake, we can recommend any book, but its up to the person who wants to read it if they like it or not.
