I am now reading Agent to the Stars by JOhn Scalzi. It has been a wonderful read - very funny and even absurd, the book reminds me a little of Douglas Adams' work. Also I just finished LONDONSTANI.and it was a good read as well.

I really enjoyed Mistress of the Art of Death and City of Shadows is by far my favorite of hers. She also writes under the name of Diana Norman.Heather, Saving Fish From Drowning improves as it goes on but it is quite a bit different from her usual fare.
Marisa wrote: "I just started reading The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of Americas First Supoerhero. I think Houdini is an intrigueing fellow and when I saw the book for $7 at B&N I oculdnt pass it up!"I hope you like this book. I read it in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. $7 is a great price as well.
I have just picked up and read a few chapters of Prodigal Summer and put it down again. It's not like me to not finish a book once I start but I am not enjoying it and cannot get into it.I have read chapter one of The Art of Racing in the Rain and this loooks like a book I will really enjoy so I am sticking with that one.
I loved Prodigal Summer. That just shows you the different tastes we all have.Petra loves LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA, and i put it down. Go figure...
Paula, how are you doing with "The Confessions of Max Tivoli"? I really enjoyed that one and liked the ending much better than "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". The story was definitely better fleshed-out.I finally finished "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr and loved it, even though it was a bit morbid at times. I'll have to pick up the sequel now. In the meantime, I stopped by the library last night and picked up a new book, "City of Thieves" by David Benioff, set at the time of the siege of Leningrad. Two young men meeting in prison are offered an outrageous assignment in order to escape execution: find a dozen eggs in the besieged city.
Mary and Marsha.I am glad I am not alone in my feelings on Edgar. Although, I still say I am glad I read it. The writing truly was good.
Linda and I have had some discussion on it and she really brings up some good points. (You can see this in my review but be aware there are spoilers)
I just finished The Christmas Train by David Baldacci.
This is one of my favorite X-mas stories. This is the 3rd time I've read it. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed.
I am going to start The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Looking forward to this....
On deck is The Book of Lies
Just finished Stardust, which I liked. I'm going to start on my first Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express.
Just started Sarah's Key this morning and am already intrigued. I love books that swing back and forth in time and this one seems to do it seemlessly. Went to a book club meeting at B&N last night to get a sense of whether I want to join the group and the author was there. Did not have a chance to read her book - Looking for Salvation at the Dairy Queen: A Novel - but if the book is as good as the author's ability to connect with her audience, I think this one will be a winner.
Hayes wrote: "Secret Life of Bees - I'm liking it, but fear it will turn predictable. If on a winter's night... - too cute for me. I think he writes really well (or is it William Weaver who translates well?)..."
My book club really enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees too. I thought it very good and I loved the Characters.
Robin wrote: "Whew - so hard to kee up with you all!Kathryn: Hitchhicker's Guide is a marvelously wacky book - hope you like it -- I did
Jamie: and Fiona - LOL - yes go read Harry Potter series - they are..."
He wrote the episode called "Day of the Dead" which was a wonderful episode.
Beth Ann wrote: "I just started The Shack. I've been kinda hesitant to read this book for some reason. I'm about half way into it and though it isn't bad, I'm not really sure what all the hype is about. I'm not ..."I loved "The Shack." It was very heartwarming and really made me think about forgiveness. I think you will like it if you finish it.
I am reading 4 books in total:The Greek Key - Colin Forbes
Lucky - Alice Sebold
When the Bough Breaks - Jonathan Kellerman
In Their Footsteps - Tess Gerritsen
Fiona, hope you enjoy Lucky. I read it a couple of months ago and thought it was amazing. Better than The Lovely Bones.
Yeah, Lucky for me was bittersweet. It was an amazing book and I'm glad I read it, but at the same time, I'm completely depressed about what the author went through.
Currently reading The Constant Princess and I've got Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and New Moon up next.Cheers!
Fiona wrote: "Have u read The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold?"Don't know who this question was directed at, so I'll give my input...
I really didn't like this book. I'd heard so many good things about Alice Sebold, I was utterly disappointed. I'm planning on reading The Lovely Bones, I hope it won't be as disappointing.
Jackie wrote: "Just finished Stardust, which I liked. I'm going to start on my first Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express. "jakie, is it really the first one you are going to read? I really hope you like it. Thanks to her books I am obsessed with reading and my first memories of books are hers. The one you picked up is a good one, hopefully not the last one.
Kelly, they cancelled the operation this morning.Jillian, the question orginally was for Alisha (sp), but anyone can answer. Have u read Lucky by Alice Sebold?
Lori, I've wanted to read Dead Souls since they mentioned it in an episode of Gilmore Girls. Probably a bad reason to read Gogol, but I'd still want to give it a shot.
Jillian, the question orginally was for Alisha (sp), but anyone can answer. Have u read Lucky by Alice Sebold?"
No, I have not read Lucky. I have been kind of jaded since The Almost Moon was the first Alice Sebold book that I read and I just really didn't like it. You'll have to let me know what you think. :-)
Jeane, yes it's the first time I've ever read a Agatha Christie novel and I'm excited! :-)I've never been much of a mystery person so that's why I never read anything by her before. I'm trying to expand my horizons.
I just finished East of Eden and just loved it. Does anyone feel like Kathy may have been a sexual abuse survivor? Steinbeck was brilliant with his character development.
I read the Lace Reader and really enjoyed the twist at the end. I knew something didn't quite fit and in the end it all came together. It was an easy read and it kept my interest.
Edgar Sawtelle was a complete let down for me. I felt very cheated by the ending. The reader deserved more that that at the end!
Now I'm reading Revolutionary Road for my book club and 13th Tale for fun. I hope they are both excellent.
I hope you will enjoy it Jackie...and if you need help to expand your crime horizon...there are some almost freaks here that can help you...
Errm, no idea Kelly. I am now awaiting an appt to become available here. Its not a bad thing as I am not in pain with the teeth.
Fiona, I started reading "Almost Moon" about five months ago. Got through I think 100 pages when I just decided to chuck it. At first, I thought the plot was interesting, but the execution (from what I've read anyway) not so much. Congratulations, if you finished it. You have much more willpower than I do.Jillian, it's unfortunate that "Almost Moon" was your first Alice Sebold book since most people would say it was her worst one. I personally loved "The Lovely Bones", but loved "Lucky" so much more. You can't go wrong with those two.
Alisha, I read 150 odd pages and hated it. I liked 'The Lovely Bones' and would like to see what her 'Lucky' is like.
I hated the lovely bones so much that I am not even concidering to read any of ehr books in the future.Kelly that's okay...I was wondering if I was really feeling too tired...
Fiona I'm glad you are in no pain. That would be a big distraction from getting your reading done huh? LOL
Oh fiona(2), wan't even concider it. Really her other book was so .....waist of time. She is done with for me. If her biography is the same style like the fiction she wrote.... and the story was really the kind of stories that I don't like. There is only one positive thing to say about the book, the cover mine has is beautiful. Maybe that's why they say never to judge a book by its cover!
I respect your opinion as well Fi. Might read it and see what I feel. I have given up on a few books that others might not of done as well. Before anyone asks, I can't remember what they were lol.
Oh but Fiona (2)that is completely okay for me. I hope you keep liking them a lot. I am glad when people like books, but am even more glad when i like a book, so it doens't matter for me when someone likes a book that I don't. I am glad for you that it gives you a good feeling. :-)I should have never taken it because of the cover. Hearing so many people telling it was a great book made me buy it after seeing the cover. But some way inside of me I jsut knew already before reading it that it is the kind of story that is jsut not for me. Should have done what I normally do: not read it and let other people enjoy it. :-)
