Yay, Gemma! Glad to hear that you liked Harry Potter. I plan on starting AGATB in January for my 75 book challenge.

Yesterday, I started reading Red, edited by Amy Goldwasser, and finished it that same day. It was amazing, needless to say.I also started The Portable Atheist, edited by Christopher Hitchens. Even though I'm not an atheist, I felt it was high time I read a book from their perspective. I find it absolutely fascinating so far!
I've just finished The Thirteenth Tale: A Novel - amazing book!I'm now going to read Misery by Stephen King.
I'm in the middle of The Lives and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson. Great book - funny and, at times, poignant look at growing up in the 1950s. It so reminded me of my childhood in Dallas that I sent a copy to my brother!
I did finish the whole thing Emma. I will try the next one though. Sometimes I think some books are better read to get the full effect while others are easily listened to. I think I probably should have read "A Great and Terrible Beauty". If I have time between tapes or CD's, it does throw me off.
Finished Absolution by Murder last night. It was ... OK? I guessed the murderer and the motive quite early, which didn't help, and the author had a tendency to infodump. It didn't feel very 7th Century to me, either.
Kelly, if I remember well they mean A great and terrible beauty, but not sure. Will finish It Must Be Love this evening. Started it this moring, wasn't sure about it but am enjoying it a lot. It is a funny, light, nice storie.
I try to remember which titles they are because many write abbreviations instad of the full title.Finished It must be love, next one might be A Wedding in December
I am reading Forrest Gump. It's really good, actually. I hadn't realized that it was a book before a movie. I just finished Their Eyes Were Watching God and it was absolutely fantastic!
I am currently reading Robert Jordan's The Dragon Reborn (Wheel of Time series). I'm almost at the climax so I bought the Shadow Rising so as not to lose my momentum.
Just finished the Thirteenth Tale and liked it very much. Now deciding whether to start New Moon or Suite Francaise. Maybe I'll just read them both at the same time. :)
I went to Barnes & Noble today and read Ghost World, Robot Dreams, The Complete Zombies Vs. Robots, and A History of Violence because I feel guilty buying books when there are so many I want to read available free at the library--but at the same time almost no graphic novels available at the nearby libraries. I was really surprised by how different A History of Violence was from the movie. I guess now I need to post on the thread about movies that were better than the books....
Ann and kelly, besdies the eight hours I also don't have a work and it is freezing cold outside, so I sit against the heater the whole day, reading... :-))
Just finished The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I would be disappointed but I didn't really have any expectations.
I am still reading Dead Until Dark I can't read that much when I am preg cuase I am soooo tired but I am trying my best
Going to put on hold THE STAND cause I just got in from ebay 2 new books!!!!YOUR HEART BELONGS TO ME by Dean Koontz
THE HOUR I FIRST BELIEVED by Wally Lamb
I am so stoked!!!!
I just put Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close on hold (just for two days) since I started On Strike for Christmas by Sheila Roberts. I figure I should finish my pile of Christmas books before Christmas is actually over. Like it so far.
I just started reading The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of Americas First Supoerhero. I think Houdini is an intrigueing fellow and when I saw the book for $7 at B&N I oculdnt pass it up!
I'm reading The Mistress of the Art of Death, and awaiting Twilight from Book Mooch, going to give that series a try next.
Well, I'm kinda reading a bunch of things at the same time right now. Malcolm Gladwell's OUTLIERS; Terry Goodkind's WIZARD'S FIRST RULE; David Levithan's HOW THEY MET...the list goes on and on! Oh my!
Allison, I loved THE MISTRESS OF THE ART OF DEATH!!Maranda, I love Wally Lamb! I have waiting for this book for a while!!
Allison and Ann - I have that book and completely forgot about it!I will have to get out "Mistress of the Art of Death" and finally read it.....
I was intrigued by it but haven't heard much in personal recommendations
I literally just started it (Mistress of the Art of Death) over my noon lunch break today, and it took me a little bit to "adjust" to the different times and way of speech (I just read that Potato Peel Pie Society book, which took place after WWII and was written completely through letters) versus this, which is taking place in like the year 1170.I really like it so far though. :-)
Kellie, I couldn't agree with you more about Sawtelle. I was so sorry I read it that I've given my copy away so I don't have to look at it on my shelves!
Just started Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan. meh, it's okay so far, but it's a far cry from some of her other stuff. currently I am running through my TBR shelves (yes, as in multiple) in roughly alpha order, trying to get them down to under a hundred (less than 30 to go until 100). I think up next is going to be the Man on the Ceiling by Steve & Melanie Tem. That is, if I can get through the Tan book.
Aaaahhhhh! (That's supposed to sound like a scream) I just hate it when I've bought a book and I find out it's not any good! I bought Sawtelle and put it down when I started reading and found out this is another dog book. Not that there's anything wrong with dog books but I had just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain and I like to limit my consumption of dog books to one every 6 months.
Kelly, it's a book that spends a lot of time talking about dogs or has dogs as a main character...Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed The Art of Racing in the Rain.
Allison, Mary, and Ann, The Mistress of the Art of Death is one of my favorite books. Its sequel, The Serpent's Tale is also great. Ariana Franklin's book written before these two is City of Shadows, and it is as good as Mistress. I just love her writing. I can't wait for her next book. Ariana Franklin is a pseudonym, can't think of the author's real name right now, but she also writes under another name. She was a Fleet Street reporter, I believe, before she began her fiction career.
