Kristina (klonk) Jeane: It's alright. :) I misunderstood, that's all. When Christmas comes, you'll have to remind me to tell you what I think of it.

message 6152: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Robin, Jodi Picoult writes about topics such as teen suicide, assisted suicide, molested children, kidnapped children, etc. The way she deals with these subjects is amazing.

And Darla, I feel you may change your mind come the end of the book.

message 6153: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Thanks Kristina, hope that in the end it is another of his jewels.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Finished The Hobbit! I'm going to start HP today.

message 6155: by Timothy (new)

Timothy I haven't seen the movie yet. I am going to have to breakdown and rent it. I am indecisive about the book. I have thought a lot about it since finishing it, yet I honestly can't say whether I really liked it or not. I'll let you know when I finally see the movie.

Jeane wrote: "Ofmatt wrote: "The movie is classic. :D"

Hi Offmat, Timothy, what did you think about the movie The ight club? I heard it was a classic too and someone said it was great just like the book but w..."

message 6156: by Emily (new)

Emily Just finished Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair and jumped right into Lost In a Good Book... they are fun easy reads, and very different from what I would usually be consuming.

message 6157: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (jazzman) I hate computers! I just wrote a fairly long review of Reading Like a Writer. Now I can't find it.

Here's what I did. I saw an empty box. It looked inviting. I wrote in it.
I believe it was in my currently reading. Now all I see is my brief previous entry (today) that notes I had finished and written a review somewhere.
If someone has pity for the technically illiterate(me) and you see this anywhere, please let me know.
Did I mention I hate computers?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Jeane - the Dexter novels (and series) are about an ethical serial killer who works for the Miami police.

I finished Master and Commander last night. No idea what I'll read next.

message 6160: by Selena (new)

Selena (selenacurrently) Jeane wrote: "Selena, I often hear about that Dexter serie...but what is it about?????"

A serial killer who only kills other serial killers, pedophiles, etc. People who deserve it. During the day, he is however a very normal guy. He works blood spatter forensics for Miami PD and has a girlfriend and a sister.

It's hard to explain through writing. Rent Season 1 - and watch the first episode - I bet you that you'll be hooked.

message 6161: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have finished Harvesting the Heart - Jodi Picoult. Will now read Skipping Christmas - John Grisham for another site.

message 6162: by [deleted user] (new)

War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

message 6163: by Sera (new)

Sera Cindy, I started the book earlier today, and I am really enjoying it. Flagg writes about the greatest small towns ; her writing makes me so happy :)

message 6164: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My daughter and I watched the movie last night and although it was nice to see the characters come to life I am still looking forward to reading the rest of the book. More detailed I think.

Eric | 382 comments Just now started:

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments Kelly, the movie is great, the book is better!

I love DEXTER! I rent the series when it comes out at blockbuster. I want to read the books, as soon as my tbr pile goes down.

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I am almost done with NEW MOON. Am loving it!!

message 6168: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments It's been a bad week for reading (finals coming up), but I got through Part One of East of Eden and I love it.

Kelly, To Kill a Mockingbird is fantastic, but I also liked the film.

Linda | 887 comments Just started Tell No One by Harlan Coben and A Drink Before the War.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the few book/movies where I might like the movie a little bit better. I'm just a sucker for Gregory Peck!

message 6171: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 204 comments Yes, Gregory Peck was a handsome critter.LOL

message 6172: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments ok, i haven't been able to be on here since wednesday, and there are 400 posts in this topic since then! yikes!

anyway, i started A Mercy from Toni Morrison. i've heard mixed reviews on this, so we'll see how it goes.

i need to finish this by tomorrow, and then i need to find the book our library reading group is reading for the 15th. plus wrap presents and bake cookies and clean...i'm going to busy!!

message 6173: by d4 (new)

d4 I can't imagine not liking the movie Fight Club if you liked the book. The only difference really is variation in the ending. Otherwise, most of the lines are directly from the book... and also, Edward Norton is gorgeous. Lolz... seriously.

message 6174: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments That exter guy does sound interesting! Wanna read the books!

message 6175: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (klonk) Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk

message 6176: by d4 (new)

d4 I'm reading The Little Mermaid right now--haven't decided what to read next and I need to because TLM is very short.

JG (Introverted Reader) I'm reading The Tenderness of Wolves: A Novel now. So far, so good!

message 6178: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I just started Forensic Nurse by Serita Stevens. It reads like an introduction to nursing specialities. The writing is so simplistic it seems as though it might be addressed to a young child so it was no surprise when the author said she is also writing the new Cherry Ames books. I don't know if I will finish this.

message 6179: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments So I just finished Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn (book 1 of a trilogy). I must say I was expecting more. I thought the characters were "better than most". And the magical system was original - but overall I thought the pacing on this book was bad. It seemed to take FOREVER to get going. And was wrapped up in an instant. I heard Brandon Sanderson was a "new fresh" voice - but to be honest this seemed like the "same old" thing - street urchin, powerful master that helps expose their power - a great evil to overcome. How exactly is this original?

Anyone else read this - want to weigh in here?

message 6180: by Debby (new)

Debby | 3804 comments Fiona, I agree with you about how sometimes a book just doesn't 'fit' with your mood when you begin reading it. However, you can pick it up again six months later and really enjoy it. I have to do that every once in a while - put a book away for a while and try it later!

message 6181: by Sera (last edited Dec 08, 2008 09:03AM) (new)

Sera I finished A Redbird Christmas last night, and I really enjoyed it. Next is Life on Santa Claus Lane, which is supposed to be very funny, but I need to read some of my "unfinished book" for the Winter Challenge first.

message 6182: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Finished HP today... Gonna start the last book of the Twilight series now.

message 6183: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Fiona, I have a feeling that A christmas carol will be something you will enjoy.

message 6184: by Selena (new)

Selena (selenacurrently) Fiona wrote: "I'm thinking of putting Everything is Illuminated aside. Maybe I'll try reading it again, I may just be in the wrong frame of mind after Prodigal Summer - so I might move onto A Great and Terrible ..."

I had to put Everyting is Illuminated down for a while. It takes the right mood to be able to... make it through that book. Though it is definitely worth it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I just started Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life, by Alison Weir. Enjoying it so far.

message 6186: by Beruskka (new)

Beruskka | 1 comments Hello, i am new here. :-) I just finished The Terror by Dan Simmons which i truly enjoyed, it is a fictional story set surrounding the events of the actual doomed and failed Franklin Expedition in 1845 and I just started OUT by Natsuo Kirino, i am only in 30 pages but so far so good. Jessica | 1000 comments Darla, what did you think of the final Harry Potter book?

message 6191: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Fiona, at least it's just over the Internet. Could you imagine a bunch of people staring at you through your windows as you tried to read something?

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments all this Harry Potter talk is making me want to start the series. Is it bad that I've never read any of them??

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments haha ok..i'll give in! Good thing I have a friend who owns them all!

message 6194: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments haha i'm a rare kind i guess! I got in this non-reading slump for a while..and then got busy with college..and just never got around to reading them..which I will now rectify this wrong thanks to you guys! :)
