Jeane: It's alright. :) I misunderstood, that's all. When Christmas comes, you'll have to remind me to tell you what I think of it.

Robin, Jodi Picoult writes about topics such as teen suicide, assisted suicide, molested children, kidnapped children, etc. The way she deals with these subjects is amazing. And Darla, I feel you may change your mind come the end of the book.
I haven't seen the movie yet. I am going to have to breakdown and rent it. I am indecisive about the book. I have thought a lot about it since finishing it, yet I honestly can't say whether I really liked it or not. I'll let you know when I finally see the movie.Jeane wrote: "Ofmatt wrote: "The movie is classic. :D"
Hi Offmat, Timothy, what did you think about the movie The ight club? I heard it was a classic too and someone said it was great just like the book but w..."
Just finished Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair and jumped right into Lost In a Good Book... they are fun easy reads, and very different from what I would usually be consuming.
I hate computers! I just wrote a fairly long review of Reading Like a Writer. Now I can't find it. Here's what I did. I saw an empty box. It looked inviting. I wrote in it.
I believe it was in my currently reading. Now all I see is my brief previous entry (today) that notes I had finished and written a review somewhere.
If someone has pity for the technically illiterate(me) and you see this anywhere, please let me know.
Did I mention I hate computers?
Jeane - the Dexter novels (and series) are about an ethical serial killer who works for the Miami police.I finished Master and Commander last night. No idea what I'll read next.
Jeane wrote: "Selena, I often hear about that Dexter serie...but what is it about?????"A serial killer who only kills other serial killers, pedophiles, etc. People who deserve it. During the day, he is however a very normal guy. He works blood spatter forensics for Miami PD and has a girlfriend and a sister.
It's hard to explain through writing. Rent Season 1 - and watch the first episode - I bet you that you'll be hooked.
I have finished Harvesting the Heart - Jodi Picoult. Will now read Skipping Christmas - John Grisham for another site.
War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells
Cindy, I started the book earlier today, and I am really enjoying it. Flagg writes about the greatest small towns ; her writing makes me so happy :)
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My daughter and I watched the movie last night and although it was nice to see the characters come to life I am still looking forward to reading the rest of the book. More detailed I think.
Just now started:Bonk by Mary Roach (Author of Stiff and Spook)
and
Just After Sunset by Stephen King (New short story collection)
Kelly, the movie is great, the book is better!I love DEXTER! I rent the series when it comes out at blockbuster. I want to read the books, as soon as my tbr pile goes down.
It's been a bad week for reading (finals coming up), but I got through Part One of East of Eden and I love it.Kelly, To Kill a Mockingbird is fantastic, but I also liked the film.
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the few book/movies where I might like the movie a little bit better. I'm just a sucker for Gregory Peck!
ok, i haven't been able to be on here since wednesday, and there are 400 posts in this topic since then! yikes!anyway, i started A Mercy from Toni Morrison. i've heard mixed reviews on this, so we'll see how it goes.
i need to finish this by tomorrow, and then i need to find the book our library reading group is reading for the 15th. plus wrap presents and bake cookies and clean...i'm going to busy!!
I can't imagine not liking the movie Fight Club if you liked the book. The only difference really is variation in the ending. Otherwise, most of the lines are directly from the book... and also, Edward Norton is gorgeous. Lolz... seriously.
I'm reading The Little Mermaid right now--haven't decided what to read next and I need to because TLM is very short.
I just started Forensic Nurse by Serita Stevens. It reads like an introduction to nursing specialities. The writing is so simplistic it seems as though it might be addressed to a young child so it was no surprise when the author said she is also writing the new Cherry Ames books. I don't know if I will finish this.
So I just finished Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn (book 1 of a trilogy). I must say I was expecting more. I thought the characters were "better than most". And the magical system was original - but overall I thought the pacing on this book was bad. It seemed to take FOREVER to get going. And was wrapped up in an instant. I heard Brandon Sanderson was a "new fresh" voice - but to be honest this seemed like the "same old" thing - street urchin, powerful master that helps expose their power - a great evil to overcome. How exactly is this original?Anyone else read this - want to weigh in here?
Wife of GR author: Michael J. Sullivan | The Crown Conspiracy (10/08) | Avempartha (04/09)
Fiona, I agree with you about how sometimes a book just doesn't 'fit' with your mood when you begin reading it. However, you can pick it up again six months later and really enjoy it. I have to do that every once in a while - put a book away for a while and try it later!
I finished A Redbird Christmas last night, and I really enjoyed it. Next is Life on Santa Claus Lane, which is supposed to be very funny, but I need to read some of my "unfinished book" for the Winter Challenge first.
Fiona wrote: "I'm thinking of putting Everything is Illuminated aside. Maybe I'll try reading it again, I may just be in the wrong frame of mind after Prodigal Summer - so I might move onto A Great and Terrible ..."I had to put Everyting is Illuminated down for a while. It takes the right mood to be able to... make it through that book. Though it is definitely worth it.
Hello, i am new here. :-) I just finished The Terror by Dan Simmons which i truly enjoyed, it is a fictional story set surrounding the events of the actual doomed and failed Franklin Expedition in 1845 and I just started OUT by Natsuo Kirino, i am only in 30 pages but so far so good. I'll keep you posted.
Fiona, at least it's just over the Internet. Could you imagine a bunch of people staring at you through your windows as you tried to read something?
all this Harry Potter talk is making me want to start the series. Is it bad that I've never read any of them??
Jaime, I HAVE NEVER READ THE BOOKS NEITHER, sorry for shouting. Thought Fi might wanna hear as well.
haha i'm a rare kind i guess! I got in this non-reading slump for a while..and then got busy with college..and just never got around to reading them..which I will now rectify this wrong thanks to you guys! :)
Umm, my excuse is I have seen the films up to date so far. Hubby hates me watchin films that I have read books to. I told him that in Flowers In The Attic, that wasn't in the book when certain thinks never made the book and film the same.
