Oh Beth I am desperate to read The Heretic's Daughter!! I don't think it's published here in the UK until January, so I'll have to be patient!

LAURA: I'm so glad you are reading BOOK THIEF! I was confused @ first, too...it gets less confusing as you get further into it. IT's a fantastic book.
Just finished The Choir by Joanna Trollope - it ended up being not too bad but it took me awhile to get into it.Next I'll be reading The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan...I haven't read anything of her's since I read The Joy Luck Club in 11th grade (10 years ago...WOW) so I'm excited about it.
I'm reading: Twilight by Stephenie MeyerOn deck:

Hey, I picked up Inkheart from the library as well. I saw a trailer for the movie and it looked good - I want to read the book before the movie comes out.

The Road is a fast read - and it seems like people fall in to one of two camps on it. I'm glad you liked it - I unfortunately did not.--

Here Here!!I couldn't agree with you more about The Road. I don't know why this book one the Pulitzer I really did not enjoy it one single bit. It was something I read because of a face2face book club and it is now my "least favorite book".

Just finished The Brass VerdictAnother Fantastic read by Connelly.
I can't WAIT to read his next one!
Going to start East of Eden
The length of this is intimidating....
Currently reading Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks and The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. Both are good so far.
I can't believe that I've been gone a couple of days and that there are 203 posts already. Thanks, Linda, for the words on The Art of Racing in the Rain. I haven't started it, and A Great and Terrible Beauty came in from the library that I had on hold so I guess it's that one first. I'm hoping that they both will be great reads.
Thanks for the order of the Sansom books, Fiona. I have had Dissolution on my TBR list and I am hoping to get it by the end of the year.Has anyone read the whole series?
Just started Twilight. (I'm always a bit slow in jumping on the bandwagon.) But with all of the hype surrounding the movie opening, I thought I'd better check it out. (Advertising people love me - I totally fall for all of their tricks!)
I am not a pusher!!!!! But do read and read, I will even forgive you for not being online. hope you like it a lot....
Then something is dreadfully wrong in Denmark, er...England! It's a terrific book. I have it too, I'm hoping I can (somewhat) read it with you. I'm dying to re-experience that book.
I just finished listening to the unabridged version of The Thirteenth Tale, and I loved everyminute of it. The two British narrators gave it
that Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights atmosphere. I
think I would love to read it again, but not soon as my house is buried in TBRs.
I really like Jon Krakauer's books. Into Thin Air was my first, then Under The Banner of Heavenwas a superb account of a story that made national headlines. We just read Into The Wild for
my bookclub. I like his journalistic style.
Fiona - whatever you want. I think like Jeane, you should continue with it. You'll love it. If you wanted to write that paragraph down, get a big notebook, cuz you're gonna want to write half the book. She is a wordpoet, her books are more like prosepoems.
Sera - I have read the entire series, as Bettie was kind enough to send me Revelation, which is out in England but not in the States as yet. I like all of them.I myself have just started Ellis Peters' The Holy Thief: The Nineteenth Chronicle of Brother Cadfael, which is better than The Heretic's Apprentice, which I read earlier this year, where she seemed to me to just be phoning it in.
Robin, wow... I think you are misunderstanding the 'post a comment' link below each persons post. It doesnt post automatically below the post you are clicking on, it posts at the end of the thread... so if you go back and check, all of your posts are one right after the other, and I have no clue who you were referring to... hee hee...
Maybe you want to edit or delete them? Or you can leave em.. no matter to me :)

Fiona, I'm glad you liked Guernsey. I'm recommending that book all over the place, it's just such a nice read. I learned a little history too about those Channel Islands! It's one I'd like to reread again soon.
Hey Maureen,I read twilight - (47 year old woman here) I too avoided this book. But a face2face group had it for our monthly read so I took it up.
It is a curiosity to me because the writing really isn't very good, the characters and plot are highly lacking, and the idea is not original and has been done well by so many others....and yet...I devoured it. Still can't figure out why.
I just finished book 2....but found that really boring. I'm not sure I'm going to go any futher in the series.
The face2face book club went to the movie today. It was very true to the book - which for me is a positive. But there were some production values that bothered me - like there was no background music through much of the movie - which is just wierd.

Fiona,When you say you finished Gurensey...do you mean
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society?
I've just started this and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Lori,Lol - ya I see that now -- blushes. I'm used to another site that posts your comments under the one you are posting to - so it has some context. I took out the ones that didn't make sense and added in titles to the some of them so it should make more sense now.
I finished 'Dissolution' and thought it was a good read, but not great. I think my only problem with the book was the main character. I have a personal need to like and respect the main character of anything I read, and I'm afraid he didn't quite make it. Good story anyway, and I'm glad I read it. I would recommend it to others who like historical mysteries. I'm now on to 'The Ghost in Love' by Jonathan Carroll.
Fiona, Glad to hear you like Guernsey. Read it for a book club and was glad it was selected. I agree with your appraisal and second it.
I was gone for like a day and had 162 posts to read! Geez! Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I am still reading Eat, Pray, Love. I am only about 90 pages in but am absolutely loving it! Robin ~ I think I'm the one freak in the world who was thoroughly impressed by Julie & Julia...oh well...
Started East of Eden last night.Wow! I'm already hooked!
I love this quote...."I remember that the Gabilan Mountains to the east of the valley were light gay mountains full of sun and loveliness and a kind of invitation, so that you wanted to climb into the lap of a beloved mother."
Makes me want to go there.
Cynthia and Kristie Faye, for Amy Tan fans, I highly recommend Saving Fish From Drowning. I first started listening to it on a car trip and loved Amy Tan reading it and the story. I switched to the printed version, as the car trip wasn't all that long, and it is now one of my favorite books.
I'm slowly making my way through "The Brothers Karamosov". I really like it (their emotional outbursts make me laugh); but maybe this is the wrong time of year to start 750 pg book. There might be another reason it's taking me so long; I am always on TNBBC. ;)
*to Robin: What a relief! Finally someone who shares the same feelings I have for Twilight!
Yes! Listen to Laura Fiona!!! Don't know why but I have a feeling you will be rebelling....I think I would also have a big notebook full of things I read in books. Now and then me and an Italian friend(my book addicted friend) will send quotes from a book one of us read, to each other. I love it.
I'm 10 pages into A Great and Terrible Beauty! And, about 40 pages from the end of A Dirty Job. Don't know why, but I didn't get too much reading done this month. :-(
Melissa, that's funny - those are my books. Except I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty and am only about 60 pages into A Dirty Job. I'm really liking it though, hope I can pick up the pace (re-reading Piers Plowman today).
Cathrine, what did you think?Melissa!

Emma, I LOVED A Great and Terrible Beauty - it was fast paced, well written, had good characterization. And I've always loved the Tennyson poem so I loved the tie-in. My mind appreciated the break from the more boring, tedious medieval lit I've been reading! I'm waiting to start the second because I feel like I should put a dent in some of my library books, but I can't wait long.
