Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Wow, great Catherine! So what did you think about it?

I finished Thanks for the memories and loved it!

message 5452: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I thought the The Historian was great! It went really quickly for me, and I liked that there were a few different story lines, which c an sometimes detract from the text. It went really quickly though, and I liked the letters throughout - of course reminded me of Dracula. Fewer than 100 pages to go, so hopefully I can finish up after class tonight!

I have a bunch of books out from the library, so I think I'm reading A Dirty Job next, at least at home (hardcovers and train don't mix).

Jeane, I'm glad you liked Thanks for the Memories. I'll have to check it out!

message 5453: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrisa-uk) Good to hear you enjoyed it Catherine! I'm on page 20 (yay!) and I'm sure I'm going to like it!

Thanks for the Memories is on my TBR pile.

message 5454: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments I'm reading 'The Thirteenth Tale' and its progressing superbly. A must read for book lovers.

message 5455: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I love the beginning chapters of The Thirteenth Tale when she talks about her love of reading.

message 5456: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments SuzieR, I swear it picks up momentum! It gets even better about 100 pages in, but I liked it from the beginning. Give it at least the first "part."

message 5457: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
I started Dead Until Dark a few minutes ago (Sookie series) and even tho Im not very far in, I really really like it. Very Moore/Martinez/Koontz-ish!

message 5458: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments I'm currently on page 78 and so far. its been superb. Yeah Jackie, I liked that part too. I remembered GR and TNBBC when she described her brought up among books and her role as a book shop owner.

message 5459: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Yeah it made me wish I was brought up in a book shop.

message 5460: by Atishay (new)

Atishay | 1451 comments Exactly. It would have been a dream come true. Sitting all day and reading anything you like.

message 5461: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Lori, I was about halfway through the first of the Sookie books when my eReader died, but I got it back last night so I'm starting over! I loved what I read of it, though.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I finished Spook, by Mary Roach, last night. It was a lot of fun - she can be very funny.

message 5463: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Catherine, what eReader do you have? I just bought the Amazon Kindle and I am suppose to get it in mid-December.

What is the Historian about? I thought I read a bad review for it somewhere. Something about it dragging on and being boring? Or am I thinking about something else???

message 5464: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments Kathry, I acutally have the Sony eReader. Kindle was just coming out at the time and I didn't know if it was going to take off (haha) and that Sony was an established name. I do love it though, and they were good about replacing it for me.

The Historian is sort of a Dracula mystery, but from more of a historical perspective. I've definitely heard that some people have considered it to be boring, but I definitely did not. I guess in any 600+ page novel, there can be a few dragging parts.

message 5465: by Maurean (new)

Maurean (moreads) | 19 comments well, I',m disappointed to read that some of you were disappointed with "First Among Sequels"; it's the only one in the series I haven't yet read, and I was so looking forward to it because I've luved them all so far!

hmm...current reading? well, I just finished "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin, but didn't enjoy that as much as I had hoped to. I'm also in the middle of Conan Doyle's "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", which I'm reading a bit at a time in the evening before bed. Picked up Mark Twain's Book for Bad Boys and Girls, which is also meant to be read in bits at a time, so now I'm looking for an engrossing tale to really sink my teeth into; I think I may start "Executive Power", which is the next book up in Vince FLynn's Mitch Rapp series, for me.

message 5466: by Sera (new)

Sera I just finished The Abstinence Teacher, which I enjoyed very much. My next fiction read will be The Art of Racing in the Rain. I intend to start it after I read a few days of my non-fiction reads.

message 5467: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Ofmatt - loved your bunny pee comment!

JG - ME TOO ME TOO on Book Thief. I'll be picking it up later tonight (book list hold). I've been wanting to read this for a long time because of TNBBC, and I'm excited to start.

Please someone tell me that it's not a depressing book tho. I mean, I know WWII and all, but please not depressing.

Please?

message 5468: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (eagle07) Right now I'm reading two different book;
Brisingr, and Private Demon; A Novel of the Darkyn.
I've been waiting for Brisingr for three or so years. Ever since I read Eragon, I've been waiting for the 'third' book. Though now it's four. That makes me a bit mad, but oh well.
Private Demon, so far is good. I've read the one before is and liked it, so I think that I'll like this one too.

message 5469: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments I just finished Hidden Power: Presidential Marriages that Shaped Our Recent History. A great read for history geeks!

I'm now onto 102 Minutes: The Untold Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers. I'm sure there will be more than a few tears with this one.

message 5470: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments OOPs I meant to say I will be reading The Choir by Joanna Trollope not Cakewalk (realized I hadn't brought that one home from the library after all).

message 5471: by d4 (new)

d4 Watership Down is one of my all-time favorite books, and I love the movie too (I'm glad it didn't ruin it by making it "cutesy").

I'm on page 179 of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close now, and I'm pretty certain it has already secured its place as one of my favorites, though it is making me quite sad, especially considering my father died a few months ago. I stopped reading at the point I did so I could try to get to sleep, but I stayed up awhile afterwards thinking of the book, and of my own father, and ended up crying.

message 5472: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Oh, that's a shame, Ofmatt. Sorry about your dad. That would be a tough one to read after your dad passed away, 9/11 or not.

message 5473: by alicia (new)

message 5474: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 437 comments I just added Hidden Power to my TBR shelf. It sounds very interesting.

I have started on The Bell Jar. I've read a couple of chapters and like it so far.

message 5475: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Yay, Lisa! It really is a great read.

message 5476: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 413 comments I just finished The Friday Night Knitting Club...It was good...sad. Now I;m starting The Almost Moon or The Boy in The Stripped Pajamas. I'm not sure which one yet.

message 5477: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Do y'all want to hear MY bunny story?? It's a little disturbing.

Ok, so picture a little 10-year-old blonde girl with glasses. Picture her loving animals. Picture her father buying her a really fluffy, beautiful white bunny. We freakin' LOVED that bunny. When he bought her, he didn't know she was pregnant. So, one day there were all of a sudden a bunch of little bunnies in her cage. Picture this little girl getting REALLLLLLY EXCITED about a lot of little bunnies!!!!! Then, picture the mommy bunny EATING THE BABIES. Right in front of the little girl....and her screaming. Yeah, that was my last bunny.

message 5478: by Darla (new)

Darla (sylvanfox) | 573 comments Fiona.... Off to HP 2 :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Maurean - I've also read First Among Sequels. I enjoyed it; maybe not quite as much as the others, but it was still a fun read to me.

I think I shall start A Pocket Full of Rye tonight.

message 5480: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) OMG Carrie that is horrible. Totally sick and disturbing. You poor girlie.

message 5481: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 253 comments Ahhh Carrie, do you freak out around bunnies now? Sorry you had to witness this as a 10 yr old!

message 5482: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments That one is very scary Ashley!

message 5483: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 175 comments I just finished The Historian! Am about halfway done with the first Sookie Stackhouse book, but I've got a lot of work to do tonight, so we'll see.

message 5484: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Darla- YAY! Did you like it? Did you think it was better than the movie???

message 5485: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Uhm, Carrie... why in the world was the mommy bunny eating her babies... What the ?

message 5486: by silvia (new)

silvia | 282 comments I know hamsters do that.

you have to be very carefull whit hamster babys, cant touch them or even touch the cage. if the mother detects a strange smell on her cubs she'll try to protect them by puting them inside her mouth.

message 5487: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I am still reading A Great and Terrible Beauty and plan on reading Good Omens next.

How does everyone like thhe Sookie Series? I was thinking about reading it since I seem to be getting into the whole series thing???

message 5488: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Sera. Get ready for a delightful read in The Art of Racing in the Rain. It is funny, heartwarming, gets your ire up at times. I think you will enjoy this one.

message 5489: by Marsha (new)

Marsha Sorry Carrie- I had similar experiences around the same age. We had five does and two bucks. Only two of the does turned out to be good mothers.

message 5490: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Well, I still love bunnies. I just think I'll get a male one next time! :)

message 5491: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Just finished a Tree Grows In Brooklyn... wonderful book!

message 5492: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm working on reading Twilight and it is amazing and I hope to find the other books and finish out the awesome series. I can see why people were excited when the most recent book came out. :-)

message 5493: by Leila (last edited Nov 19, 2008 07:29AM) (new)

Leila (justsortofreading) I just finished The Host: A Novel. I liked it but not that very much. I still feel as if there is a lot of uncertainty and throughout the whole novel, I just couldn't see where it was heading. It's one thing to not know and be surprised of course and it is another thing to be able to follow a common thread. I did enjoy it though, especially the last page and gave it a 3 stars :)

Now I have no idea what to read. One part of me tells me that I should go back and read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close because I only started it, and I want to continue and still have the library book but it feels weird to jump into it so quick.

I have lots of other books on my to-read list available as well.

Hmm...what book to start reading...I feel so exhausted haha.

message 5494: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) OOh, Carrie...what a bunny story. ICK!

History of Love / Book Thief / The Historian? Bouncing back & forth at this point. May stay w/History of Love for awhile.

message 5495: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Just thumbing through - it looks good. Different. Just browsing you can tell that.

message 5496: by Leila (new)

Leila (justsortofreading) Laura, I cannot wait till I can read the Book Thief :) I've heard so many good reviews and opinions and although I have only read the first 6 pages, they were good. Unfortunately, I have to wait until I get some more money so I can buy my own copy and read because it is always reserved in the library :(

message 5497: by Marsha (new)

Marsha It is worth the wait Leila. Great book. One of the few 5-stars.

message 5498: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) yeah, I had to wait for mine too, but I believe it will be worth it.

Donna, I just finished the first Sookie novel and it was really really good. 5 stars from me, and I have the rest of the series sitting here begging to be read next!

I am currently picking up Of Human Bondage (Seth, have you started already?) and then I will hop back on the Sookie bandwagon!

message 5500: by Donna (new)
